Despite of the fact that doing a simulation was our full challenge as first year students in the business diploma, we have enjoyed this practical learning experience. As we could involve ourselves during the BizCafé simulation, we have improved our knowledge of vital business factors and teamwork effects. Based on this beneficial experience, we have divided business essentials into two parts such as significant factors to start a business and to run a business. Therefore, through this summary, we would like to firstly focus on important aspects when starting up a business such as business and team organization, decision making, and team management. Secondly, we will describe noticeable factors when running a business as management, operations, marketing. Finally, we would like to suggest advices for effective performance that can motivate you to do differently in order to improve your business. When first starting a business, there are some major factors that need to be considered. First and foremost, ordering coffee was something every member in our group struggled with during at least in one period mostly having to make bulk emergency purchases or wasting a large amount of coffee. We learned that we needed to evaluate better at how other decisions impacted the amount of coffee we needed to purchase, especially when we decided to expand dramatically increasing our coffee production. Selling high quality organic coffee was also a tough decision that our group had to come but we ultimately came to the decision that selling a high-quality product even though it cost more would set us apart from other groups and that we could charge more for a high-quality
This paper will cover a reflection of my experience with the Biz Café simulation. After reading this paper, one should have an idea of what I learned from the simulation and how it works. I will be talking about the challenges my team and I dealt with and how we overcame these challenges. Most importantly, I will be talking about how we made Coffee Connection run as a successful coffee shop. In this paper, I will also discuss my thoughts on teamwork and the significant factors of running a small business.
The coffee served in Second Cup is also high quality and the drinks available strongly rival those in Starbucks. In the past decade there has been an explosive growth of 157% in the area of coffee shop market. Canadian coffee market share, new companies have limited to no space for growth in North America. Second Cup’s market share at the Canadian market is about 8%.Upon these facts and analysis there is an unlimited growth possibilities in the coffee market in Canada. There are different factors that do influence in the purchase of coffee from these outlets and the the way these coffees are priced. Customers are reluctant to get coffee from these outlets as the prices are too high than the coffees that could be made at home. There is a huge conflict between the pricing of coffees at these places and homemade ones. Coffee shops are determined to serve the best quality coffees which are been imported from South America and Africa, due to the rise in oil prices transportation charges have also been increased. And also due to different global climatic conditions the prices of these gourmet coffee beans have been increased.
Marketplace Business Simulator is an on-line marketing simulation that incorporates all the marketing principles I have learned over the course of this semester and apply them into real world marketing practice. Simulation was used for the sake of instigating effective results and in that regard, this paper analyses the manner in which each quarter was carried through. The circumstances surrounding each of the decisions made are analyzed intricately and hence a manifestation of the impact of each for each of the quarters is laid bare.
The purpose of this paper is assessing my strategy and decisions in the simulation Biz Café. Then, I will give my results and explain how I got there. However, there were many factors involved creating these results. In this simulation, everything was left up to me to decide how to run my new coffee shop. There were big decisions at the beginning you had to make to create the overall theme of your business. Then, I was to hire employees, buy goods, and act on specials decisions or react to good or bad customer reactions. This, I will explain more in the following paragraphs.
This assignment evaluates the performance of team Baldwin around the success in managing the company over five rounds of the simulation. The assessment will be focused on the round analysis areas with key attention on inventory, profit and contribution margin, emergency loans, and stock price. In addition, the assignment reflects on the areas of improvement and how the team could have developed effectiveness in addressing these key areas in round analysis.
The advertising strategy was also to be an immediate market follower. J.D.B.T.’s advertisements were modified by comparing them to the top rated brands’ advertisements. This worked well until R&D came into effect. Other companies were able to advertise titles such as Highest Performance Processor, and Technical Leader Most R&D. We had a decline in our advertising because we did not strategize in the beginning to invest in the R&D as fully as other companies.
For my project, I ran Coffee-Roma, a coffee shop located in the business district of a large city. My simulation ran for 60 days. Over this timeframe, I hired 7 employees and earned gross revenues of $89,984.20. From those revenues, my net profit totaled $14,046.83. Below are the details of how I attempted to best run my business.
Initially, our firm’s business position was at a healthy position. In the beginning of the simulation, our overall market share for the automobile industry was 28.2%; the highest in the market. We realized that our primary strength from product contribution came from our economy car Alec with 63.5% market share for economy cars, and from our utility car, awesome with a 48.5% market share for its vehicle class. Thus, it was evident what we needed to do; maintain high market share of our leading cars while conforming our least profitable vehicle class sustainably to coordinate to customer demand.
Since quarter one was the first quarter of this simulation, I was unaware of how difficult it was going to be to make all the different decisions. Firstly, I had to choose a Company name. Because I was selling computers, I thought that the name “Dev-Tech” was a perfect fit being that this simulation was about development and technology. Next, I had to choose a target segment. I knew going into this simulation that it would be better to invest in the more expensive goods as it would benefit me in the end. The segment that didn’t care about price was Mercedes, so that is the segment that I made my first priority.

To achieve a high net income and be effective in fulfilling contracts in the simulation, it was important to have a strategy set in place. This requires a standard of control over how the business was going to operate and fulfill orders effectively. In order to gain a higher reputation to secure higher value contracts within the game, I worked to acquire specific contracts and purchasing materials to produce the items that would be shipped out to customers. I also found it important to have employees who were highly skilled within each area that they were employed in order to maximize the production process. By having higher skilled employees, I found it easier to continually fulfill contracts at a constant rate as and minimize slack between each area of production. I also found it highly important within the simulation to be able to adapt quickly to changing market and contact requirements because each required a different set of machines, number of materials and time to be produced. It was very important to understand the time constants in order to effectively produce and fulfill each contract within the time that was allotted. Having a diversified production process was also important so that the production process wasn’t constrained to producing one type of contract. Through the game, I learned the
