What does fear do to people? Fear causes people to act irrationally because they assume the worst about the people they encounter either in public or in private. People are judged every day for the way they appear. The people around you are constantly judging you, and sometimes they may be intimidated because of how you look or dress, like in the Christmas carolers article where the people getting pranked were scared because of the way the carolers looked or in The Off Season when Parkhill killed a Martian because he didn’t understand what their intentions were on Mars. Due to people’s fears of what could happen with the people they encounter, they become the stereotypers not the people being stereotyped.

A group of black men from Linkin’ Bridge decide to act as christmas carolers and go to different houses dressed in baggy, dark clothing to try to prove a point that blacks are almost always stereotyped for the way they look and dress. “When strangers strolled into the Estates of Saratoga Woods, let's just say ‘neighborhood watch’ took on whole a new meaning. But panic quickly turned to praise...as the men began to sing acapella Christmas songs.” These people assume that because they are dressed in baggy, dark clothing, they are going to do something mischievous and troublesome. Executing a prank like this is creative and a good idea because it shows that many people stereotype other people because of the way they look, dress, or the color of their skin. Gil Corsey said in his article, “The acapella group Linkin' Bridge pulled this gag all over Louisville and saw reactions that were much the same. One man answered the door timidly, then called for his wife...But the singers admit that when it first started, they were as scared as the people being pranked.” These men are scared of what could happen to them if one of the people they were pranking were to call the cops on them for “disturbing the peace” because they didn’t realize ahead of time that they were only there to sing christmas carols. Michael Dunn stopped at the gas station on his way home from his son’s wedding, and a group of black teenagers in the car nearby were playing loud rap music that Dunn stated as “obnoxious”. Dunn asks them to turn it down and the teenagers curse at him and say rude things from inside their car. Dunn states, ‘“I had every right of self-defense, and I took it.”’ Dunn fears for his life because he believes that one of the teenagers, a 17-year-old, has a shotgun in his car, and when he asks him to turn his music down they start arguing. When the kid gets out of his car to approach Dunn, Dunn thinks he's going to kill him. Dunn fires 10 shots towards the teenagers and then drives off, not checking to see if his bullets had hit anyone. Neale Rick stated in his article that, “Dunn reached into his glovebox, unholstered his pistol and opened fire at the Durango, which contained Davis and three other black teenagers. Three bullets struck Davis, who died shortly afterward.” He killed an innocent kid, and who knows if he was actually going to hurt Dunn. He could have been going over to talk to him, but he didn’t get the chance because he got shot. In addition, Dunn claims to not have known that the teenager was dead until hours subsequently after the event occurred. This relates to "The Off Season" because
