BLACK LIVES MATTER AND BLACK TRANS LIVES MATTER
When looking into the movement Black Lives Matter it began after the death of Trayvon Martin in 2012, as a result of George Zimmerman that was acquitted for the murder, the response the African American community had was to develop “Black Lives Matter” (Blacklivesmatter.com). When looking into Black Tran’s lives matters movement began as a response to the year 2015, being described as the worse year on record for increasing amounts of murders of black Trans and gender non-conforming females (Biko, 2016). The main focus for “Black Lives Matter” was based on ideological and political intervention in a world where black lives are targeted for demise (Blacklivesmatter.com). The main reasoning to

Conflict theory is based on certain powerful groups use the criminal justice system to maintain their dominate position and repress groups of social movements such as BLM or BTLM that threaten their position (Walker, Spohn, and Delone, 2012). Conflict theory explains the overrepresentation of racial and ethnic minorities in the criminal justice system, such as the criminal law pays more attention to certain behaviors that are seen in the poor, as well as criminal law tries to control the poor due to them being a threat to the social order (Walker, Spohn, and Delone, 2012). This is what is seen done to the African American community which cause the Black Live Matter movement to be developed to ensure the equality is being maintained within the community. When looking further into culture conflict theory it is based on the fact that crime will be seen more likely in heterogeneous societies where there is a lack of consensus over society’s values (Walker, Spohn, and Delone, 2012). When looking at society’s it is seen that the majority will not only focus on social norms but also controls making and the administration of the criminal law system (Walker, Spohn, and Delone, 2012). The culture conflict theory help to further explain the differences of rates of involvement in crime in society, in turn has been characterized by many different races, ethnic groups, religions and cultural lifestyles (Walker, Spohn, and Delone, 2012). This theory has been seen through history of racial conflict, such as slavery, the Civil War, as well as the civil rights movement which is considered one of the major themes in U.S history (Walker, Spohn, and Delone,
For the past few years, racial tensions have been on the rise. Although many actions have been taken to prevent these conflicts from occurring, African Americans are still being undervalued by the state. As more African Americans are being turned away with little to no assistance from the American government, anger and the desire for change increased among them. When Trayvon Martin’s murderer George Zimmerman was acquitted for his crime, a great number of Americans were furious at the outcome. Three African American women named Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi expressed their view on a Facebook post titled “A Love Note to Black People” and it ends with “Our Lives Matter, Black Lives Matter” (“Black Lives Matter”). Thus, a new liberation movement for black people was born. The hashtag #BlackLivesMatter rapidly spread throughout social media, bringing awareness of the struggles of African Americans. The Black Lives Matter movement is a call to action to eradicate the dehumanization of African Americans that exists in American society. With the constant targeting of African Americans by the police and the unfair treatment in the criminal justice system, the Black Lives Matter movement is a necessity to combat racism.
The following piece of work will discuss racism within the criminal justice system by viewing the Black Lives Matter movement, the roles of law enforcement and how that effects citizens, and potential solutions to the problems in the system. Within our criminal justice system, it is evident that there is a problem by the ratio of blacks in prison, and the number of police brutality cases in the country.
2016 has not reached the end of its year, and yet there is already an accumulation of controversy questioning modern movements' civility in today's society. Undoubtedly the most popularly controversial of all modern movements, however, is the Black Lives Matter movement. While they are a vocal group advocating against police brutality in concern of the well-being for fellow African Americans, their reputation does not exactly agree with this ideal. In other words, their methods of advocating appears to be rather aggressive, which especially targets police officers. Civility has become an alarmingly nonexistent concept in modern movements, and the Black Lives Matter must bring civility in order to save their purpose, as well as their reasoning
In 2012, a 17 year-old unarmed black boy was gunned down in Florida while walking home from a gas station after getting snacks. The murder of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, FL by George Zimmerman received attention around the nation. Zimmerman was eventually put on trial for Martin’s death, but was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter, which began the hashtag BlackLivesMatter. The official website, blacklivesmatter.com, describes it as “an ideological and political intervention in a world where black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folk’s contributions to this society, our humanity and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression” (Black Lives Matter, n.d.). The hashtag quickly transformed into a movement in 2014 after the deaths of Michael Brown, John Crawford III and Eric Garner. All three were unarmed black men killed by police who were eventually acquitted for their murders. The Black Lives Matter movement is a call-to-action to encourage people to fight against the racial inequalities endured by black people and stand against the expectations of normality defined by white supremacy. Many have tried to debase this movement by saying that all lives mater and all lives are important. Though the Black Lives Matter Movement may be “pro-black”, it does not mean it is being anti-white or
The above narrative is just a mere glimpse of the hurt, anger, and pain in the black community after George Zimmerman was acquitted of charges of second degree murder against seventeen year old Trayvon Martin. These emotions were the stepping stones of a highly significant movement, the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement is a response as well as a stance against police brutality against African Americans, which uses the tragic deaths of teenagers Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown as a head for its cause. Many people on social media know the black lives matter movement or refer to it #blacklivesmatter, especially on twitter. The Black Lives Matter movement was founded by Patrisse Cullers, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza. Which is defined as an “ideological and political intervention in a world where black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folks contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.”
A necessary and common fight for equality has been one that has survived throughout all of man’s existence. Due to recent racial divide and the product of racial profiling, a movement has risen up to combat these common issues. The most recent and most well-covered is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Even though it has been lauded by some media sources and individuals as the next great movement to champion for civil rights, the Black Lives Matter movement is not the same as the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s nor is it likely to be as successful. If the Black Lives Matter Movement continues with discrepancies in ideology, lack of clear leadership, and trends of hate, the movement is doomed to fail.
During the last few years, there has been a lot of talk about the Black Lives Matter movement, an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people. But in the 21st century, it is difficult to fathom the fact that America is still divided when it comes to racial issues. Many African-American men have been brutally murdered by the police and this has sparked anger and rage in the black community towards police officers that put their lives down every day to protect and serve their communities. This tension between the black community and police officers needs to be demolished in order for communities to truly become unified and concerted. It
In the United States, there has been many cases of Racial injustice. From the beginning of the start of the United States of America it was the injustice to the Native Americans being captured and used for slave labor while their bison be slaughtered for sportsmanship. But this paper is on the specific race of the African Americans. There are many races that have been racially profiled and ostracized by the English people. But the treatment that African Americans have endured even till this day is disheartening. African Americans have gone through enslavement during the early 1600’s to the mid 1800’s. Then the African Americans were obstructed by the Jim Crow laws creating the ‘Separate but Equal” propaganda during the late 1800’s into the 1960’s. After the abolishment of the Jim Crow Laws, people were considered equal until the recent actions of many police officers using deadly force on African American youths in the early 2000’s.
“Black Lives Matter” —an intended progression in society without a hierarchy, merely marching forward by spur of the people. Started by three sisters who continue to keep the organization a chapter-based, left wing social justice operation, it can best be described as “Not a moment, but a movement” by those that follow it. The case that began this outcry involved a man —George Zimmerman— whom, according to Lizette Alvarez and Cara Buckley (2013), “was found not guilty [of] second-degree murder [and] was also acquitted of manslaughter, a lesser charge.” (para. 1). Since its initial start in 2013, the movement follows and protests against police brutality and civil injustice towards individuals of the Black minority; however, this is a prime example of hate breeding hate as the movement, has opened a new floodgate full of antipathy aimed towards the White-community and Law Enforcement Officials. In short, the initial idea of “Black Lives Matter” —which is to bring civil justice to the Black-community— is a good concept, but the execution by its adherents are, ironically, bigoted; the movement needs to either evolve its state of thought or disperse before it further segregates America.
In recent years, there has been a variety of events that have occurred which caused people to realize the inequality that still happens in modern day society. Between gay marriage becoming legal in 2015 and the recent presidential election, there have been many situations that have caused a form of division between the people of the United States. A major group that has shed some light on the inequality that occurs in modern day society is the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. The BLM website states that this they label themselves as a group of 50+ organizations that have come together with a renewed purpose to spread a common vision and agenda. Although many people view them as a great step toward furthering equality amongst all people, there is a select group of people who disagree.
The movement continued its encounter beyond racial police violence to make sure change. “Because of social media we reach people in the smallest corners of America. We are plucking at a cord that has not been plucked forever. There is a network and a hashtag to gather around. It is powerful to be in alignment with our own people.” (De Choudhury et al., 2015) ‘Reformist and Revolutionary’ is a social action that fits in with the Black Lives Matter movement. Reformist regularly pursue to help bring about change without challenging the limitations of legal systems however it is often that the motivation is the legal change. Revolutionary disputes that change can’t happen unless there is a change within the legal system for instance; social, political and economic. This backs up the movement as the Black Lives matter movement aims to make sure that change occurs within the judicial system. There aiming for a new social direction. The main focus is to change the political system and the American Districts perspective on viewing police officers who use excessive force, which is leading to the deaths of black

The dignity of Black Americans is being taken away by the same people who are getting paid by American tax dollars, to protect and serve. Because of this rash of recent deaths, Black Americas have started an initiative to ban together to fight the racial injustice in this country. Black Lives Matter is an organization of American activist who created a grassroots movement to abolish the degradation and demonization of Blacks Americans. The Black Lives Matter movement has swept across America. It 's branched out with chapters in over 31 cities and held rallies and boycotts across the United States(Sidner). The Black Lives Matter movement started with the outrage of the death of a young man. It continues to take over headlines and raise awareness on police brutality and inequality. However, the movement has met resistance from the All Lives Matter group. This group thinks that Black Lives Matter is a movement to express hatred towards other races. However, statistics, the views of fellow citizens, and the overall purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement, can prove that the movement wasn 't meant to express hate on other races and that we need to support the movement instead of going against it.
Another category of the Cultural Conflict Theory is the “delinquency and drift”. This category describes the whys and how delinquents and or criminals commit law breaking acts and their justification for the apparent lack of guilt for committing those crimes. In
