Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

The play Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story written by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare has written multiple other tragic plays such as Hamlet, Othello, and King Lear. Many people still have one question, and that is who is the most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? The play is filled with many characters and every character plays a different role. But, in my opinion, Friar Lawrence is the most to blame for Romeo and Juliet deaths. The reason behind this is because he was the one to suggest their marriage to create peace between the two families. Friar Lawrence was also the one to provide Juliet with the poison and the message didn't get through to Romeo correctly making him kill himself. The play Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers that fell in love and if one does something the other will do.

Within every tragic ending, lies at least one or more accomplice. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, many things happen that involve many different people, so it could be hard to pinpoint one person to blame for the deaths of the two young lovers Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, Benvolio, and the Capulet and Montague ancestors are to blame. Romeo is to blame because he acts rashly and does not think things through. Benvolio is at fault because he encourages Romeo to go to a Capulet party where he meets the love of his life. Romeo and Juliet's ancestors are also to blame because they created the feud that resulted in the lover’s tragic end. With so many people playing a part in the relationship, putting the blame on one person is difficult.

Blame serves as a factor in “Romeo and Juliet” by creating conflict between characters and creating difficulty when discerning the truth and reality of their lives. The people that are blamed for Romeo and Juliet's deaths are Friar Laurence and Romeo and Juliet themselves.

The factors to blame for both Romeo and Juliet's death was Friar Lawrence. The quote by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend ties in with this, because Friar Lawrence was the main reason they ended up killing themselves.

Throughout much of Romeo & Juliet, many different characters can be blamed for the death of the two star-crossed lovers, and the events leading up to it. Although it may seem that the majority of blame can be placed on the two families themselves, much of the blame can be given to individual characters throughout the play. However, throughout the entire play, only three key characters can be truly blamed for the deadly love: Tybalt, Romeo, and Friar Lawrence. From the start, Tybalt is assessed as a very portentous character. When the first fight breaks out in the street, it is Tybalt, with his gaudy and showing attitude, that keeps the disaccord going.

When analyzing Romeo and Juliet, you never notice the reason why any of the two families fighting with each other, so it comes apparent that Shakespeare is going over an unexamined prejudice against two families. Ever since the feud first started the people of the two families have pasted the feud around to their kids and so on until everyone starts to forget even the reason of why they still have it. The characters in this play would not take any blame to their own family, so they turned and blamed it on the other. Finally in the end of the book the characters start to come to their senses and start to say why should they even keep this dumb disagreement between the two families. In the play Romeo and Juliet, blame plays the factor of placing the deaths of Romeo and Juliet into someone's hand so their families could have peace. Blame is placed when people know they are wrong but no not want the guilt. Romeo and Juliet are both to blame for their deaths.

Blame is the unjust assignment to someone who is innocent of the accused action. When one resorts to blaming, the accuser uses this defense to victimize themselves, therefore, making the opposing argument seem as if they are in the wrong. This is explained in the quote “We live in a culture of blame. People will blame anyone or anything for their misery sooner than take the responsibility to own it and make it better. "

When Romeo kills Tybalt he says this, “Now, Tybalt, take the ‘villain’ back again / That late thou gavest me, for Mercutio’s soul / Is but a little way above our heads, / Staying for thine to keep him company. / Either thou or I, or both, must go with him” (3.1.121-125).
