Corner Gospel Explosion is a rock band based out of Bend, Oregon who thrives on creating scintillating ear candy for “underground” people groups like myself. The music itself is an amalgam of underground 90’s Seattle Sub Pop overtones, layered with unquestionable indie undercurrents as the foundation. Headed by drummer and vocalist, Bradley David Parsons, CGE definitely seems to be one of the more adept bands in the underground scene.

In fact, Unloved, the group’s first studio album doesn’t disappoint, thriving in a crescendo and maturing in our ears after repetitive listenings.

They take bits and pieces from just about every genre of music and make it sound great. The members of the band are actually animated, with members (except creator/vocalist Damon Albarn) being largely interchangable between releases. What initially pulled me in was the unique and interesting art style from co-creator Jamie Hewlett, but I stayed for the diverse and interesting music. Out of their five albums so far, I cannot name a song I hate. That’s not to say I like them all equally, however.
