Ads in magazines can oftentimes be deceptive to readers. Advertisers use certain language, visuals and colors to entice a reader to go out and buy their product while exaggerating the truth about the effectiveness of a product. Blue Wilderness has a full-page ad in the Southern Living magazine February 2017 issue that tries to persuade the reader to buy Blue Wilderness cat food. With the use of deceptive language, imagery, and bright colors, the ad makes the reader question if Blue Wilderness is the best type of cat food to purchase or if it is just good advertising. The advertisers state that their cat food is the most natural cat food sold; however, they do not include any supporting evidence to prove this claim. The ad further claims that the cat food is made with the “finest natural ingredients.” Unfortunately, the ad contains nothing proving that their cat food is more natural than other cat food brands. It also states that the product contains no gluten, but they supply no facts to prove it. In today’s production of cat food, there must be a binder to help keep the dry cat food together. If it contains no gluten, then the binder would have to be either rice or corn. It, therefore, will contain some grain products rather than just meat. In another paragraph in the Blue Wilderness ad, it says, “If you want your cat to enjoy a meat-rich diet like her ancestors once did, there’s nothing better than Blue Wilderness.” However, a reader should ask what ingredient is better than the actual fresh meat. The amount of meat used in a dry cat food cannot be better than actually feeding your cat fresh meat. In addition, another cat food brand could have more percentage of meat used than in Blue
