Relationships can have positive and negative outcomes, one has to overcome and improve and change to succeed in a positive relationship. As Richard M. Devos once said “Money cannot buy peace of mind. It cannot heal ruptured relationships, or build meaning into a life that has none.” In the short story “Bluffing” by Gail Helgason money and communication show the importance of a successful relationship in Liam’s and Gabriella’s life. On the other hand in the short story “The Prospectors Trail” by Cathy Jewison money and communication were one of the conflicts throughout. The thesis of this essay is one should put their own opinions and views before others.
In The short story “Bluffing” one of the problems is that Jennifer is fairly demanding of her own wants and needs about starting a new life in Yellowknife which can be shown by when she is in the tent talking to Norman as she says “I give it six weeks to labour day” (Jewison 24). This quotation emphasis Jennifer’s own wants as she is very demanding of her wants. The other problem Norman on the other hand, is not as self conceited as his partner when his own ideas are to find work. Whereas Jennifer stated she was only going to give it 6 weeks. But Norman still wants to find a job and give living a life outside the city a try this can be apparent by when he is talking to Roy around the fire about work as Norman says “I want to start a tourist operation” (Jewison 22).
