The limitations of using a BMI as a measure of weight is the fact that there is no differentiation between women, men, teen, or adult, which can affect the end result because women could be more petite or a teen could have a bigger build up, so in conclusion it is not the most precise and accurate. Muscle tone can affect a BMI, because a BMI is not able to differentiate muscle from fat, so one could be extremely fit and have big muscles and no fat whatsoever, but the BMI calculations will show that one could be obese, when it is in fact the opposite. Factors that can increase BMR can be the type of foods that a person eats daily, how much sodium and greens are put into their diet. According to my calculations, I have a BMI of 27.6 which puts me in the category of being overweight. A person my age and height should have and ideal weight ranging from 160lbs to 175lbs. Many risk factors that are associated with being overweight includes, coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cancer, osteoarthritis, and sleep apnea. I consider myself a healthy overweight person because BMI cannot dictated everyone healthy state such as body builders; I perform similar workouts to body builders so I am at my BMI goal.
