Some of the most successful people of all time have had to overcome a plethora of difficulties throughout their life to achieve their goals. A few examples of people who demonstrate this include Thomas Edison, Bo Jackson, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Thomas Edison came up from nearly nothing and was able to create over one thousand patents. Bo Jackson had a very tough childhood and a lot of injuries in his professional baseball and football careers. Ludwig van Beethoven was told that he would never be a great composer but managed to compose an astounding number of influential works, some while completely deaf. Without an enormous amount of determination, none of these people would have been able to achieve the success that they did. Determination is the most important character trait necessary to overcome obstacles because when people never give up and are fully determined, it is much harder to stop them from excelling at whatever they are attempting to do. …show more content…
When inventing, he often tried different solutions over and over until he found the best option. “He would literally try something thousands of times and if something did not work, he counted it as a success because at least he would know what did not work. After 8,000 trials while he was developing a storage battery, he remarked, "Well at least we know 8,000 things that don't work!"” (Edison). This constant determination drove him to invent some of the most prominent inventions of his time. He is a terrific example of someone who worked hard for everything that they earned. In fact, he often worked harder than he probably had to but never stopped. He was somewhat of a workaholic in that way and was proud of that. He never had too many physical challenges that he needed to persevere through but to invent as many different things as he did you need an unbelievable amount of
He started right away and built the first powered engine from scratch in less than 6 weeks! That’s crazy! Plus, he made all the metal parts used in the airframe. He had so many great things going for him and now this! He was very talented and was very determined with his work.
Have you ever wondered what Bo Jackson could have done in his sports career if he would have got hurt? Vincent or otherwise called “Bo” Jackson was born on November 30, 1962. Bo went to McAdory high, where he was known as a legend to all his peers for outrageous things he did. Bo is said to have been ”caught throwing rocks at the Baptist minister’s hogs. The boy had killed several of the pigs…”, things such as this shows that Bo has had this freakish unusual athleticism since he was a young boy. Bo had a poor home life but his momma like all momma’s took care of their kids and made sure they didn’t realize the financial side of life. Bo was a trouble maker, and would beat up other kids in the neighborhood. “His brothers called him a ‘wild boar’” these are examples of how people saw him and not in a good way.
I think that determination is definitely a big part of survival. In the book Hatchet, Brian was determined when he was making the fire. It took him a long time to figure out how to do it and then it took him quite a while to get it started, but all the time, he kept going because he was so determined. He tried many different times in many different ways. Ernest Shackleton was a man who tried to sail to Antarctica in a ship with a crew, but got stuck in an iceberg. Also, in a video about Ernest Shackleton, he was obviously very
Starting out as an apprentice, first to his father, then to his brother, he rose to prosperity as a shrewd entrepreneur, cornering the printing market. He established numerous philosophical institutions, many that still stand today, such as what would later become the University of Pennsylvania. He was also an inventor and a scientist, bringing into existence items such as the ‘Franklin Stove’ and Bifocals, and most important discovering the laws of electricity and taming the lightning bolt. Embodying the “self-made man”, he established what it was to live the American Dream invigorating our culture with a firm drive to do more and a spirit of accomplishment. He was also a successful diplomat and politician, spending years of his life away from his family, first in England and then in France. In France he become an icon, beloved by the crowds and the nobility alike, and it was his charisma that was able to successfully negotiate at first arms deals, and later outright military support with the French. After winning the war, he was again called upon to lead the nation acting as a mediator for the negotiations of what would become the constitution and a voice to reach out to the public through. One of the, if not the most famous man on two continents his influence in world events could be placed among the greatest and most
Through Frederick Douglass’s, Sam Houston’s, and my own life, being fearless, determined, and dependable has helped us be great leaders. In all great leaders, character plays an important part, for it defines the way they will interact with people and situations. Leaders tend to have strong traits, courage and ambition, for example.
Many people think the stories of Bo Jackson are just a myth. Bo Jackson was an absolutely amazing athlete during high school, college, and the pros. He did many things for baseball and football inside and outside of the game. With Bo Jackson completely smashing records in high school and being an amazing hall of fame athlete in both the NFL and MLB he set the tone for many athletes to want to live up to the legacy of Bo Jackson. It wasn’t all easy for him though with hardships through school and childhood.
An example where the proper attitude and fortitude led to success, in the face of adversity, is in Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Men. These traits are mainly possessed by juror eight. The situation he faces, is that he must convince eleven other men of a young boys innocence, all of which believe that the boy is guilty of killing his father. In the beginning of the story, as soon as all of the jurors got settled, they took a vote on whether the boy was guilty or not. The result was eleven to one in favor of guilty. Juror eight was the only voter on the side of not guilty, for which he was ridiculed, causing him to say, “There were eleven votes for ‘guilty.’ It’s not easy for me to to raise my hand and send a boy off to die
In all his walks of life he displayed courage, determination, and leadership, and above all he was a fighter. As a homeschooled boy from New York, he fought the asthma condition he was born with, fought for political positions in his state, fought in the Spanish-American war, fought for presidency, and all the while was fighting for America. No matter what opposition he faced, he never stopped fighting, and I think that is the truest form of determination. Had he not kept that determined attitude, he would not have been a colonel, governor, or a good President. If politicians today held the same zealous love for America’s wellbeing, we might be living in a much greater
Initially, when I think of someone who handled a great deal of difficulty, yet overcame them and succeeded, I picture Abraham Lincoln. Abe had many struggles that not many people know of. When he was young, Lincoln moved several times
When you succeed you need to faliure and successful person will tell you that they had failed, but those failures are what made them successful.People with success can lead to other success, this is shown with many people around the world in many different industries. This is mainly shown by the music industries, like other artist shout out or make song with unknown or not well know artist. They had overcome many obstacles an example is school, family problems, and negatively of review of loves ones and friends. One example of this is shown filmmaker Cole bennett’s,his failure can be instructive by teaching or helping others to become more successful than even him.
After two years of experimenting and helping himself to the manuscript and studies of scholars, he was finally to create the electric light bulb. He knew society would profit from this invention but was unsure of how to share this with society since being in the tunnel was breaking the rules. His best bet, according to him, was to show his idea to the scholars. While working on his
Another character that shows certain personality’s can help to achieve certain goals was Nando, Even though he had lost his mother and his sister in the plane crash he still manage to put his stubbornness aside and inspire the others to stay positive and keep trying even when they feel like there is no hope. Nando sacrificed his life in hope to find rescues for the lives of many others. He encourage them to climb the mountain and even when Canessa was doubting that they will make it Nando’s goal was” if we do were going to die walking”. Nando showed his success by believing in everyone and himself; he made others believe in hopefulness. He was successful because he never gave up, he would rather die walking than die not trying at all, by seeing the mountains without snow made him comprehend he’s that much closer to attaining his goals and those sacrifices he made were the right thing to do because a life without trying is no life at all. Nando personality is what saved Canessa from giving up along with many others, his stubbornness helped him accomplish his goal because he kept pushing himself up the mountain and always had an encouraging thought. Nando is an example of someone who shows leadership making he gets to the top; goals are sometimes high, but with a little push from others around you
He had to try over 200 different combinations of mixtures of chemicals before he got what he has today, which also got in the way of homework in high school because he spent 3-7 hours a day experiment. Because of this he had to multitask which was not that much of a problem since he was a genius. He also had many doubters such as teachers and friends, he had his family’s support though which caused him to keep trying and not give up.
Persistence is an important quality in a hero because this is what keeps them moving forward and shows how when you do not give up, you can succeed.
The push to keep training and maintaining the discipline of a Basketball player despite the initial rejection makes Michael Jordan iconic. He knew that the way to the top would not be easy, but he was determined to do all it takes to get there. This shows that no one who truly wants to make a mark should think that life is a bed of roses. There is something to overcome; there are disciplines to maintain if we want to get to great heights. We can overcome obstacles like a genius when we pattern our lives to do the things that geniuses do.
