Obesity is a known disease that is found around us. Everywhere we go we see obese people. But what is obesity? Obesity is defined as having an excessive amount of body fat which applies to people who are overweight. There are many health risks that coincide with obesity, which makes it a dangerous disease. Furthermore, obesity is becoming an enormous problem since it is increasing drastically. About 38% of the world population is obese and that percentage is steadily rising. Coronary heart disease takes place when a waxy substance called a plaque builds up in the walls of the arteries, which supply oxygen to the heart muscles. When this oxygen does not reach the heart, heart attack occurs. This is mainly due to the fact that since obese people have a high level of fats, some build up in the artery walls. II. Treatments Many treatments are available to treat obesity. One of them is a dietary change, so instead of eating a regular amount of fast food, high in energy and calories, they eat healthier foods lower in calories, such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, eggs, whole grains, and sources of proteins. Obese people should also refrain from consuming large amounts of salt, because this affects blood pressure levels by increasing them. The key treatment of obesity is that of exercise and activity. Obese people should start exercising depending on their condition. For example, highly obese people should start exercising slowly and gradually from 10 to 15 minutes daily and then work up on them; moderately obese people should exercise more than highly obese people and the duration can range from 15 to 25 minutes daily and it should increase as they lose weight; people who are at the edge of being obese should exercise between 25-30 minutes daily to avoid becoming obese or to fall out of the obesity category if they are considered obese.
