Boeing Australia Limited Executive Summary My decision is to continue on the same course that Boeing Australia Limited (BAL) is on. I feel, after reading this case study that BAL has been on the correct path with regard to building their systems architecture. There is a need for a more sophisticated procurement process and the issue of a procurement application may be easily found. The key is the process by which BAL has implemented all other IT applications, they have been very successful. They are thorough and have processes in place to rationalize whether a new by-in application or an in-house developed program would be best. There would be a learning curve and possible displacement of staff to new positions and or layoffs. The view may be that they are effective and they will not understand the need for a streamlined process. The job of management will be to proceed with caution to ensure that the knowledge base and people who have the historical knowledge of the department are not alienated or lost. They are an important piece of the puzzle and their experience will be critical to deciding which system or processes are valuable. The selection of a new or add-on program is contingent on budgetary requirements. How much money would have to be laid out for training of staff or does the knowledge already exist in the IT department. BAL is a small company with 400 employees. The budget that would be required to purchase a new software package could seriously outweigh the need. I believe that a procurement program will be found within the legacy programs that are in use at BAL. Specifically within the ERP program already being used, Compass Contracts. There appears to be a procurement module already included and perhaps the expansion module would suffice for BAL’s current needs.
