For this project I had lots of favorite items to choose from but I chose Boer goats. I chose Boer goats because I show them and I wanted to know more about their background. The Boer goat was thought of in the 1900’s by the Dutch. They wanted to use them for their meat. ( ABGA )

During the 1800's, there was a noticeable spike in demand for animal fur's, pelt's, and hide's. Especially in distant countries such as Spain and England. People believed that wearing the fur's or having them around the house, such as rugs or throws was a sign of their wealth. Due to this sudden high demand, men began noticing they could generate a significant amount of money by opening businesses and selling the animal fur's, hide's, and pelt's as well as, other supplies for trapping and other jobs. In 1833, three business partners decided they wanted to take a chance and open a fur trading post as well. However, not only was this trading post for selling goods, it would also become headquarters for an Army unit. In an open area now known as La Junta, Colorado, the three business partners, brothers William and Charles Bent, and Ceran St. Vrain opened their first trading post, naming it Bent's Fort. Bent's fort quickly became a very popular and successful trading post in Colorado selling animal fur's and, other goods as well as, housing an Army unit.
I have shown a variety of both livestock and general projects in my ten years as a 4-H member. My first livestock project was Mallard ducks and since then my waterfowl project has expanded. I showed my Mallard ducks for five years. Unfortunately a mink killed my entire flock. After I lost my flock, I was given a set of Giant African Dewlaps from a family friend which I named Linus and Lola. A few years later the same family friend offered to give me his pair of Giant Toulouse Dewlap geese. He was having difficulty finding someone to take care of them when he traveled and felt they could have a better home with me. I have shown these geese at the Illinois State Fair and have won Best Heavyweight Goose and Gander and Reserve Best Heavyweight

To understand where an animal comes from, it is important to know its lineage. Tracing the domestication of any animal often leads back to one ancestor, but it is a bit different for the donkey. It is generally accepted that the domesticated donkey, Equus asinus, is the descendent of the African wild ass, Equss africanus, which is its closest relative. The ancient asses were discovered in southern and central Asia and northern Africa. In these areas, they are well adapted to live in rocky highlands and low land deserts and prefer to live in warmer, dry climates.
In "The Fall of the House of Usher," Roderick and his house are described in similar ways. His house is described as having "bleak walls", "vacant, eye-like windows"; similarly, the house is mostly unkept, and the narrator often describes the house as being "gloomy" (Poe, "The Fall of the House of Usher"). Likewise, Roderick is described as having very large eyes, thin lips, and "web-like" and "wild" hair (Poe, "The Fall of the House of Usher"). The narrator also describes that both Roderick and the house are mysterious, gloomy, and unkept. These similarities between Roderick and the house reveal that the two are intertwined.
