The Giver, written by Lois Lowry, follows a boy named Jonas as he lives life with his family and friends in a futuristic society where everyone has nothing but love for each other. There are many strict rules that if broken you are ‘released’ which is considered a great dishonor unless you are being released from the House of the Old. One of the biggest factors that progresses this book is the lack of choice citizens have; at the age of 12, they are assigned a career that they must endure for the rest of their lives, they must apply for a spouse of their choice or be assigned one from the government. Children are birthed by Birthmothers, who never see their children and can only be used for one year. Society is meant to be as easy and perfect
This novel is about a community where each person is the same. Everybody in this community go by certain rules and if they do not follow those rules they are punished. Everyone is to act the same in this book. Every person is assigned a job when they become a twelve and they are to work at the job until they go to the house of the old. This book is explained by Lois Lowry the author is explaining a whole different world than ours in this world he describes a person called the giver who is the receiver who hands off the job to Jonas one of the main characters who asks the receiver about all his memories and about what his job will be like. Jones had become the receiver. the giver gives him training and tells him what memories were like, the giver tells him why were like giver tells him why were like.
The book “The Giver” was written by Lois Lowry in 1993. The book is about a community where there is no disease or penury, but you get little individual choice. The community is basically the perfect world, no war, drama, etc. In the excerpt from StudySync, Jonas expresses his concerns about his soon to be assigned career path to his parents.
In the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry, the receivers are the only people who have feelings and memories. The elders are the people who choose what the best is for their people in the community and sometimes they go to the receiver for help on making the right decisions. The people from the community do not see color, or have freedom on making a decision for them. There is no love, feelings, and grandparents. Jonas is assigned to be the next receiver of the community; He was trained by the giver, who transfers memories of the pain and pleasures of life, who also shows him the truth and reality that is hidden to the community. Jonas’s community does not represent the ideal of society because there are no choices or distinctions between men
“Everything a writer experiences as a young person goes into the later writing in some form” (Albert 9). Lois Lowry is a Newbery medal children 's author. She has written numerous novels, but the one that stood out the most would be The Giver. As Lowry began to write The Giver she took her emotions, memories and personal stories to write about this book. She makes the setting of the story in the future where all the people have no memory and no free will. Also, every time something fearful happens in her life, she never lets it get in the way. Instead, fear makes her a stronger person and forces her to get the job done. Lois Lowry has been collecting her memories and life events from the past and uses them to create her stories for The Giver.
The setting of The Giver takes place in a fictional community known as the “Sameness”. Life here is supposed to be "perfect" because there is no pain or suffering. They don’t have to take
The quotation that I will be saying if I agree or disagree will be "Character is what you are in the dark."-Dwight Lyman Moody. The literature I will be comparing it to is The Giver by Lois Lowry. My interpretation of this quotation is you're the real you when nobody is watching. The position I am is that I agree with the quotation. The quotation also applies with the piece of literature I chose.
The book that I wanted to do my report on is The giver. In this book the story is told completely from Jonas’s point of view. It was written by author Lois Lowrey. It was published by Houghton Mifflin and it was published in 1993. The giver is science fictional and it was a fantasized community.
In the novel The Giver, Lois Lowry insists that individual needs including choice, emotion, and diversity surpasse the needs of a community’s perfection involving sameness, organization, and “equality”. The Giver is an engaging book that truly drives you to wonder what is more important, individual or community needs? Lowry has Jonas flee his community because of the lack of individuality.
The Giver by Lois Lowry is about a community where its goal is to make their citizens the same. As a result, the community controls/limits what their citizens have and do. But, the people of the world we live in today have the power to choose and value our differences. Their world greatly differs from ours in several ways.
The book The Giver, written by Lois Lowry, is about Jonas, a 12 year old boy, who is selected to be the Receiver of Memory. His powers are that he has the memories of seeing in the past and the beliefs to live on in the future. Do you think a 12 year old average kid can manage high regards and respect for one another? This is called honor. For example, "Honor, he said firmly… Great honor..."
A perfect world is something all people long for. No war, no hate, and no jaundiced emotions. In fact, there are no true feelings in this world, in all except for Jonas. In the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, Jonas experience of knowing and feeling emotions his district is unaware of isolates him both emotionally and physically.

“The Giver”, by Lois Lowry, is a great book. The book has many spectacular events and the movie too. I was wondering how the book and the movie compare to the author's main idea, “The price for perfection is too high and that it is not enough”.
Lois Lowry has been one of the most influential authors who has ever lived. She has written so many novels that every time we read one of her novels we have a desire on reading more and more on what’s going to happen next. Lois Lowry has been very successful on publishing her novels. Well, what I learned about while I was watching this video was when she wrote “The Giver” I believe the reason she wrote that book was because of her son. When Lois was talking about how she gets influences on writing such marvelous books like “The Giver” or as well like “Gathering Blue” was that she get’s influenced on what she see’s all over the world. Like for instances, Lois Lowry explains “That in order to be greatly influenced on something you must be thinking to yourself what you’re always wondering about”.
In the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, the author makes it clear through the main character Jonas that freedom and safety need to find an equal balance. Lowry shows the importance of deep emotions and family through Jonas. Jonas becomes the new receiver of memory and learns about the past. He also learned about the way it was when people knew what love was. Jonas’ father releases newborn children because they don’t weight the correct amount of weight or they don’t sleep well through the night. Release is a nice way of saying kill; the people of the community don’t know what kill means. They don’t have the freedom to expand their vocabulary. Lois Lowry makes it clear that safety has a negative side and you need that you need freedom to
