''Tis the season for boys, boys, and more boys. That's what the world think most teenage girls think of, right? Wrong! Okay, well, sometimes, I guess, at least in Cali Boys by Kelli London. There's so much to a girl's heart and mind. In this book Kelli addressed a lot of problems what teen girls encounter, in addition to their boyfriend issues, friend issues, disloyalty, a girl's rite of passage into womanhood, weight problems, bullying, and of course self esteem. The first character is Kassidy Maddox who has everything-beauty, brains, and confidence to spare. She was fresh from New York into California who meets multiple guys and now can’t choose who she wants to be with. The second main character is Jacobi Swanson who is a late bloomer and is insecure about herself and has a crush one two guys she met when she moved to California from New York. Let's find out how they overcame adversity through self resisting confidence. …show more content…

These themes are typically not seen when it comes to teenage girls coming of age stories and this brings about the issue of the glorification of male youth coming of age. ““these young men are entitled to misbehave,. to destroy, by virtue of who they are: white, male, and middle-upper class Americans. They are doing what society, their parents and the audiences expect them to do.” (Speed).
This novel “is a book that truly speaks to adolescents in contemporary language and with teenage characters about adolescent sexuality” (Kaplan 27). Katherine is learning about her sexuality in the novel.
I think in the book The Girls by Amy Goldman Koss the theme is don't have friends that don't treat you right. In the book The Girls it starts out when Maya doesn’t get invited to Darcy sleepover. Darcy told everyone not to tell maya but when Maya called Brianna to see if she would come to Magic Mountain with she found out that Brianna went to Darcy's and everyone else went too. That is when Maya started getting suspicious. A little bit later that day
She starts off with just telling her boyfriend and her mom everything. She hides the rest of information from her friends, from her boyfriend’s parents and from everyone at school. She went to school every day with a tiny tummy to a bigger one and bigger as the months went by. People would talk and stare and just be
The famous award winning book I chose to write about is my favorite “Before I Fall” by Lauren oliver. Lauren Oliver has grew to be one of my favorite authors over the years from her ability to relate with her teenage readers so well and grasp every ages attention with her suspenseful andthought-provoking novels. This book is about a teenage girl named Sam Kingston who’s only concern in high school is her group of friends and her boyfriend. This story takes place in Connecticut and they all go to Jefferson High School. The leader of her group Lindsay is the stereotypical “popular-mean girl” everyone knows about. Her other 2 best friends Elody and Ally are followers to Lindsay and never really speak up for themselves. She has the most popular boyfriend in the school named Rob who is everything she could ever want but soon realizes he isn't.
Summer Promise is not just an ordinary teenage book, but a novel where anyone can learn about God and how he helps you pull through the bad circumstances and makes the best of the great ones. Christy Miller, native of Wisconsin and 14 years old, moves to California with her Aunt Marti and Uncle Bob. Christy lived on a farm, so she had no idea of the luxuries someone could have like clothes, relaxing on the beach, makeup, and beauty, but her aunt made sure that she learned the amenities of a teenager. Christy met her “first love,” named Todd, and he was different than all of the other surfers. Todd believed in Christ, and that God was the person who controlled his life. Throughout Christy and Todd’s journey, Christy learns about God, why he is important, and that she should give her life to him. She meets incredible people on the way, who show her the light. Summer Promise exemplifies how people should always put God first and displays a sweet, innocent teenage love.
Jennifer Echols, an Alabama native, has done several things within her career, including: being a YA author, a newspaper editor, and a college teacher. She lives with her husband and son in Birmingham, Alabama. Echols used the familiar-to-her setting of one of Alabama’s lakes for her novel Endless Summer. This novel is actually a combination of two books: The Boys Next Door #1 and #2. This novel is a very quick and easy read for anyone who loves the idea of a summer romance.
Finn Jacobs is a 16 year old girl, who lives in Colt River, New Jersey. She looks pretty average, and plain, especially standing next to Chloe. She has brown hair, and doesn’t care much about her appearance. She is a farm girl, so she dresses casually. Her actions are very thought through, like when planning the kidnaping. She always has a plan and backup plans, for every possible situation. She speaks normally, and was very good at not sounding suspicious when talking about Chloe’s disappearance. She has a bunch of thoughts going through her head, especially since she just staged a kidnapping. She thinks a good deal about her plans, and what to do if things get
Sex and relationships are recurring themes throughout the genre and are essential elements teen narrative. Their portrayal ranges from comic interactions to serious exchanges and emotional liberation from restrictive forces. Timothy Shary explains the significance of these two thematic threads: “Romantic longing and sexual curiosity take on heightened intensity and profundity for youth in the adolescent years struggle to recognise and cope with the emotional and psychological changes”(2002). The character’s experience with sex are usually comedic and linked to sexual discovery and loss of virginity, which are continually present topics in the narrative. It is is often a determinant that shapes teen identity, as well as providing a commentary on societal questions regarding a desire of intimacy. The sexual exploits between the teen male and female investigates teen behavior and the conceptualization of feelings and emotions in their discovery of identity.
The boyfriend shows her a website for plastic surgery which reads, “Sunshine Medical Surgery Group: We Care.” Even the name of the surgery group and its taglines are cause of misconception. The name “Sunshine” evokes feelings and images of being carefree and positivity, which partners perfectly with the tagline “We Care,” while promoting the darker side of unnecessary plastic surgery for purposes other than medical. The boyfriend shows the girlfriend the size of the breast augmentation he wants for her, which is an excessive 38DD for her small frame, even though she expresses she’s more comfortable with a 30D. She widens her eyes in surprise and shock, but reluctantly agrees to appease her boyfriend’s desire. In the rest of the video, with her boyfriend absent, she looks at the image with concern and tries to imagine her body with that scale of breast size by putting tissues in her shirt. She finally goes to the medical center alone for her surgery and after being exposed to another patient she changes her mind and runs out of the center. The relationship between the girlfriend and the boyfriend is also one that every woman can relate to. Even though not every relationship goes as far as plastic surgery, there are still smaller scale standards of beauty that women are prone to submitting to due to the ideals of their significant other. Some examples would be the types of clothes to
Following the success of “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, Jenny Han published another captivating Young Adult book many known as “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. And to no surprise, it had become a New York Bestseller among readers. This book is quite intricate. You may end up either loving it or saying “meh” to it. This could be due to characters' way of dealing with circumstances, how the plot line is by all accounts going at a moderate pace, and so forth.
This essay is for women who believe their thighs are too big, their breasts are too small, their hair is boring, their skin is flawed, their body is shaped funny, or their clothes are outdated. This month's column is for women who believe their life would improve if they could lose 15 pounds; if they could afford contact lenses, that new perfume or anti-cellulite concoction; if they got a nose job, a face lift, a tummy tuck, etc. This month's column is for women who feel shame or unhappiness when they ponder some part (or all) of their body. In other words, this month's column is for 99.9% of the women reading it!
“The Girl I Hate” by Mona Awad tackles the daily problems of a girl who struggles with her body image. From counting calories to enjoying food, as if it is a sin, Awad creates a realistic story that many can relate to. Awad wrote a successful short story due to her ability to appeal to young females emotions, also known as pathos. Awad makes the audience feel a wide array of emotions from guilt to joy.
