Books vs Movies

For instance, in the book Joppy knew Albright; Albright knew Todd Carter; Todd Carter knew Richard McGee as well as Matthew Terrell whereas in the movie every character denied knowing each other except Albright and Joppy. Another noticeable difference is that in the book Frank Green, Daphne’s brother ends up murdered and in the movie he lives and they both end up moving. The third noticeable difference is a character name change from the book to the movie; Matthew Teran in the book is Matthew Terrell in the movie and he ends up being murdered in the book whereas at the end of the movie he’s running for mayor. A fourth noticeable difference is the pier scene. In the book Albright and Easy meet at the Santa Monica pier and in the movie it is the Malibu pier. And the last most noticeable difference between the book and the movie is that Mouse knows Daphne Monet or shall we call her by her real name Ruby Hanks; however, in the movie the audience never finds that out. In the movie the only true thing you get to know about Daphne is that she is both black and white. Therefore, due to the many differences between the book and the movie it is confusing to the audience since it is almost like dealing with two different stories because of the plot inconsistencies.

The difference between the developing way of books and movies is magnificently huge because the way of emotion transmitting is different; the movie is based on vision, while the book is based on words.

For instance, the book talks about how the greasers felt and how their feelings were, then in the movie, it didnt talk about it but it showed it. The way that they showed it was not as good as it was written. When reading we don't fall in love with the characters' appearance. We fall in love with their words, their thoughts, and their hearts. We fall in love with their soul. In movies we focus more on appearance and what's going on in the background, which then gets people distracted from what the character is feeling and their thoughts. On the other hand, you can see the actions of the characters in the movie, which might help you process the way they act, however with the book the author can use what he thinks and try to give people a general idea of everything. Some people say movies are the way to the heart, but have you ever read a book? Books are way more descriptive than movies because they add so many more important details. Movies are not as descriptive because they try squishing an eleven hour reading into a two hour screening. Finally, movies always leave out important scenes and characters. On the other hand movies are pretty cool because they do have some pretty creative images that you would have never imagined before. The book version of “Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief” is better than the movie version because the book includes characters like Ares, Cerberus, and the Three Kindly Ones.

One of the hardest things for a director to do is to turn a book into a movie. There is a fine line between keeping the movie just like the book, and by barely crossing that line you can end up making a completely different vision than the book has set out for you. There are also many viewers out there that will completely hate the movie if it is nothing like the book that they read originally. The director has to realize that although there are many different types of audiences to please, that it still has to be a great movie that people cannot stop talking about.

The movie was more interesting than the book because it helped me visualize the story. Most of the more exciting scenes from the movie are not in the book, this is why I like the movie more than the book.

However, if I catch the movie before the book comes out I am able to enjoy it more, after watching movie first; I like to read the book to compare the two.

Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non-aggressive person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really made a move towards Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the two. Also, towards the end of the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even happened in the novel at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions in the movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm-hearted man who couldn’t harm a fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also, he got very upset when he found out that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed in the book. Charly’s family is something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it’s probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness

Despite having many differences the film remains faithful in capturing the novel and putting on film. While one may not get everything from the movie as from the book, the majority of it is there.
