Book Log Questions
3. How did you react to the book? How did you experience the book? Were you immediately drawn into the story-or did it take awhile? Did the book intrigue (interest you by creating curiosity), amuse (entertain), disturb (upset), irritate, or frighten you?
When I reacted to the book/experienced the book I would say I reacted average. I didn’t necessarily like it, but it wasn’t bad either! I wasn’t all that drawn into the book, so yes, it did take some time! I usually don’t get drawn to a particular book until the action starts so it’s normal for me to not like a book at the start! This book (Gregor the Overlander) did create some emotions, Boots (Margret) made me laugh out loud! She was a hilarious character that I could

Why a Boots (Margret) is a good role for me is because we're both energetic, hilarious, and is the youngest in my family! Why Luxa is a good role for me is because we’re both bossy when we need to be and everyone looks up to us. An example when we first meet Boots (from the book) “Ge-go!” squealed a little voice, a curly head popped over the side of the crib. “Me out!” Boots stuck the soggy end of a stuffed dog’s tail in her mouth and reached up both arms to him. Greegor lifted his sister high in the air and blew a loud raspberry on her stomach. She giggled and the dog fell to the floor, he set her down to retrieve …show more content…
“Beware, Underlanders, time hangs by a thread, the hunters are hunted, white water runs red, the Gnawers will strike to extinguish the rest, the hope of the hopeless resides in a quest. An Overlander Warrior, a son of the sun, may bring us back light, he may bring us back none, but gather your neighbors and follow his call or rats will surely devour us all. Two Over, two Under, of Royal descent, two Flyers, two Crawlers, two Spinners accent, one Gnawer beside and one lost up ahead, and eight will be left when we count up the dead. The last who will die must decide where he stands, the fate of the eight is contained in his hands, so bid him take care, bid him look where he leaps, as life may be Death Life again reaps.” No, the plot wasn’t as believable as it could have been! I felt this way because I couldn’t relate to the plot, I never went to a place called the Underworld (and I never heard that place)! But the genre of this book (Gregor the Overlander) is fantasy and that means it’s made up, which I can’t really relate to a fantasy book and I’m pretty sure no one can
Part 1—Create a list of five discussion questions (and sample answers) about the book so we can include them in our class discussions. You will be expected to lead a discussion with at least one of these questions. (Your sample answers should be six to eight sentences in length.)
5. RATING: Rate this book on a scale of 1 to 10. What qualities of a good book does this novel demonstrate or not demonstrate? Why did you give this rating? What was your favorite part and why? Who would enjoy this
Personally, I did like the book. I’m not normally a reader but, this book was very intriguing and had a lot of interesting turns to it, it kept me wanting to know the end. I, at first, didn’t want to read the book, and was going to pick the smallest book I could find, but after reading about the story behind this author and the book itself I went out and picked it up an haven’t stopped reading it since. It starts kind of slow
I do not know how to write this without sounding rude, careless or insensitive. I however did not enjoy the novel at all. It was overall very bland to me; I commend my professor for showing us how to speed read through the novel, to make sure we were getting the most book for our time, and that did help a little bit, however I was not nearly as excited about the novel as I am about Willa Cather’s life.
As the overall book, I actually kind of liked it because it was kind of hard to understand because they couldn’t use “I” and I like challenges. They had to use “We” instead of using “I” to explain they self or the story. The book was okay as a whole but still kind of hard to understand I got kind of irritated after a while, while I was reading the book because of the way it was written.
For the most part, the novel was very enjoyable. One aspect of it that I loved was that the storyline was extremely intense, which always compelled me to find out what would happen next. For example,
I was not really into reading at the time, but I remember that my teacher made us read for at least fifteen minutes at the beginning of every class. If we did not have a book there were many books from her library to choose from. I believe this was one of the first books that I read in her class, and think I chose this book in particular because it stood out. I mean the title itself already piqued my interest. I honestly did not think that I was going to enjoy it as much as I did, It was such a bizarre read with all the strange events and abnormal characters. And in a weird way, the strangeness of the story was what I really liked. I do not think I would have liked it as much if it was not for that. It was one of the first chapter books that I did not have to force myself to finish. This was also one of the first books I read that really got me into loving to read. I just loved getting lost in another world and I wanted to keep reading books that did that for me.
and I was sort of into it sort of not. I feel that I didn’t connect to any of the characters as much as I would have liked to. Despite the fact that I didn’t relate to any of the characters I did enjoy the book, this was probably my first drama
Your assignment is to read the book and answer a set of review questions. The questions will be impossible to answer without actually reading the book. The questions do not necessarily address the larger themes discussed in the book, but are intended to highlight interesting details, and simply force a closer reading of the book. I recommend that you keep the questions before you as you read. You will be asked to affirm that you have done your own work. After completing the reading and the questions, you will write an essay based on the book. The essay question is found at the end of the review questions.
There weren’t really any emotions that were evoked during or after the reading. Since this book was a non-linear, straight
I did indeed like the book a lot this time. It caught attention we'll and I got carried away reading it. It made think twice before entering the woods first if all, and second of all I learned to not get addicted to things. This can apply to anything like drugs, alcohol, television, and even sleep! This book many people should read, it could change their lives. They will no longer be addicted to things if they read this book and that is a promise. I rate a 9.5 out of ten. I took .5 off because it didn't really have a
I did actually really like this book. I was not sure if I was going to enjoy it when the project was first assigned, but after reading for a while, I became really interested
I’d like to build on what I was saying about understanding the book, when I read it especially in certain chapters when something big happened, I could predict what was going to happen. This was a really intense book but after the theme I could understand it.
The first part of the book was really calm, when the setting was being described. When it got to the main characters, the tone started to rise more, and was kind of tense. I really liked the book, it was interesting because usually I don’t like when authors go on and on about the setting, but in this book it really went well and tied into the following event. It was refreshing not being overpowered by the setting description, and the use of dialogue. One of the only things I didn’t prefer about the first part if the story was the use of their language. It’s really hard to understand the text and still try to figure out what they mean when a character says: “An’,” or “foun’.” (247)
