BORDER PATROL NATION
A nation without borders is not a nation. Today, every country is putting efforts to secure its borders not only from terrorists and drugs smuggling, but also from the illegal immigration. All these recurring activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants and terrorism by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS is headed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism and illegal immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department of Homeland Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in year 2003. The United States has over seven-thousand miles of border to cover each day. The US shares its borders with Canada and Mexico. That’s why the CBP was established to safeguard our borders through the deployment of technology, personnel, and infrastructure. The US Border Patrol is the most visible of DHS’s agencies and is now touching majority of population than ever before. It has increased its strength to more than 21,000 agents, up from 8,500 in 2001and 4,000 in 1994(17). The primary function of the Border Patrol Agency is apprehension of terrorists, drug interdiction and immigration enforcement. The book ‘Border Patrol Nation’ by Todd Miller is a classic example of the Border Patrol
An analysis on the complex issues of United States border security and explores the issues of why millions of dollars are being spent on new ways to make the border a more secure one. He argues that the Department of Homeland Security has created a violent environment especially after September 11, 2001 and has violated the rights and dignity of undocumented individuals using harsh military strategies. He tells the story of how undocumented individuals are victims of the Border Patrol as well as to President Obama’s deportation strategies and policies that continue to break so many families apart. Miller also argues that 9/11 gave federal authorities the green light to become a strong occupying force at both the U.S. – Mexico border and the
Long before Donald Trump announced his candidacy for president, border patrol has been an issue talked about in abhorrence for years. In this cartoon the U.S. border patrol is patrolling the border and drawn to a yellow sign that reads, “CAUTION,” and has a silhouette of a family running. Underneath that is another yellow sign, but this one reads, “OUTSOURCING,” and features robbers fleeing. The border control is looking at the signs puzzled. Through this drawing, Bennett asked his audience, “Do we really want to vote for a man who worries more about families coming to the U.S. to better their lives? Or people in the U.S. taking our profits and business to other countries?” As I said earlier, questioning some of Trump’s motives is questioning
To tighten the security around the borders, large amounts of money were funded to patrolling along the northern and southern borders and on construction such as physical barriers and “virtual fences” along the U.S-Mexico borders. Even though, Canada received less attention in the public’s eye there is high maintains screening increased by the department of homeland security on bus and train routes across the northern border. (Deepa Iyer n.d.) Nevertheless, years after years’ concerns have been raised against the government commitment is being fleeting only to the political demand rebounded by anti-immigration activists as a battle cry against immigration reforms and the government. The government’s failure to secure the border, is pointed out by the continuation of immigrates entering the US illegally and the increase in drug trafficking
Just as the various other bureaucratic agencies within the United States government serve specific purposes, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, does as well. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, whose headquarters is in Washington, D.C., was formed in 2003, the result of a merger between the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Customs Service. ICE has many sub-departments dedicated to immigration control, smuggling and trafficking investigation, and terrorism
A big issue predominantly with the border of Mexico and the U.S is drug traffic into our country. The drug cartel is a serious problem that needs to be put at rest because they threaten the safety of our country. Every day millions of drugs are passed through unknowingly by the Cartel and we are slowly cracking down on them. They only way we can do that, are to further support border control. “Though the drug war receives minimal attention north of the border, some authorities say it increasingly threatens the stability of the Mexican state and poses a security threat to the United States.” Ever since Mexico has took action against the cartel, violence has grown and has caused us to worry.
I chose this link because it varies on Border Patrol agents how they cross the river to see if there are any people in danger or trying to cross the border they usually use boats to see if there are any people crossing trying to get to the other side illegally ,The Main border is located in Texas and Mexico to this date The US Border Patrol has been hiring new agents because the situation in The US has gotten out of control.People where worried since Trump came in Office many people where worried they where not gonna be able to see there families since President Trump was deciding on building a
ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they deal with matters concerning border control, customs, trade and immigration to insure public safety and homeland security. Their priorities focus on preventing terrorism and the illegal movement of items, as well as people. Within ICE, there are three subgroups that fall into specialized tasks for the agency, such as Homeland security investigations (HSI) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Although being a fairly new agency there has been more than a few controversies on how ICE handles the illegal immigrants, however, since 9/11 the U.S has been trying to find the most effective ways to stop terrorism. So, that also means that not everyone would agree with the tactics that ICE used to solve the problem for those specific cases.
U.S Customs and Border Protection has also been in charge in keeping terrorist and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S laws (Peak, 2009, Pg. 164). Consequently, immigrants have been victims of human trafficking. According to Larry K. Gaines from the textbook Criminal Justice in Action, U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has played an important role in focusing the nation’s borders. Their mission is to detain illegal aliens and deport them to their country, and disrupting trafficking operations. In 2008, ICE removed about
Border security it’s been a problem as early as 1904. Since the inception of the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) in 1924, enormous changes have affected almost every aspect of its operation, thus, their main mission remain the same “To Protect our Borders”. Despite a big increase on the amount of money, manpower, and new strategies the security of our country by the U.S. Border Patrol has proven to be a difficult task. Weakness in our borders allows terrorist and smugglers, as well as thousands of illegal immigrants, easy entrance to the United States. New strong immigration laws are in dire need of changing, as well as stricter punishments and fines for all immigrants caught crossing our borders illegally.
Throughout history of the United States and Mexican border there has been multiple depths of changes and immigration. From the area trading country ownership to population changes to having a fence line created on it. Seen in Figure1, the U.S.-
Illegal immigrants are residing in all parts of the United States, but how? Border Patrol is supposed to protect the U.S. from unauthorized, potentially dangerous, people from entering, so how are there so many illegal immigrants in our country? The government hires people to secure the border and allow only the authorized into the U.S. However, more than 11.6 million undocumented immigrants are scattered through our states. Our governing authorities have done their best to improve and further secure the country's borders, but research shows that an airtight border is nearly impossible. Journalists and investigators have published articles and stories of the rough journeys that immigrants go through when leaving their homes and lives to
officers more precise information regarding the individuals being held on illegal immigration charges. This system proved to be very effective. Once the suspects are apprehended, immigration agents scanned images of all ten of the suspect’s fingers. As mentioned previously, the fingerprints are synchronized and compared to fingerprints in other systems that law enforcement use worldwide. The system is capable of properly identifying an individual with outstanding warrants or a criminal history in a matter of minutes. This system also proved to be extremely effective because it quickly identifies individuals with a high likelihood of re-attempts at illegally crossing United States borders (Hilaj, 2016).
A recurring problem in many countries, especially the United States, is illegal immigration. There have been many disputations about this issue, some saying immigration security is to blame and others saying building a wall will automatically fix illegal immigration. A stronger security system may stop many illegal immigration attempts, but is not effective for the long-term goal; building a wall is not only impossible, but also counterproductive.
I feel that border security should be a priority and it is important to me because of the consequences we are currently suffering from and will continue to suffer from. We have decades of children that will depend on us to resolve these issues now rather than lay the burden on them. Even if Border Security is dealt with successfully, the radical terrorist threat will continue and will be able to be dealt with more easily because of the progress we will be able to make at home domestically as well. Securing our nearly 6000 miles of border between just the Canadian and Mexican borders not including our coastal shores and ports will be vital in many ways, such as national security and for a prosperous America.
Have you ever wondered why your taxes were so high. Well some of your taxes are raised by illegal immigration. Mexican people have been flowing through our borders like crazy. Our last president has made the mistake of giving everyone welfare and illegal immigrants live off of welfare and don’t pay taxes. Welfare is just an add on to our taxes and it is expensive. So to stop this we need stronger borders. Which the government is investing in the borders to put up. This is also important for safety reasons to.
