Boston Bombing Report

Many People are still affected emotionally by September 11 2001 today. A huge number of people are still facing mental health issues. They are trying very hard to forget about the past and move on with there every day life. Many still fear that there might be another terror attack in the United States. The American psychological association found that people living in New York who have experienced the World Trade Center attack are showing more mental health problems more than any other place. Many people feel that we should honor our love one and the police and fireman that lost their lives because of 9/11. The National September 11 memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center has been established to honor the dead and respect the historic site of America’s tragic loss. The memorial was opened on September 11 2011. It consist of two huge pools with the nation’s largest human=made waterfalls located on the site between the two fallen towers. The name of those who died at the WTC, pentagon, and in Pennsylvania aboard flight 93 . The Museum presents a gallery that tells the story of 9/11. It contains artifacts, photographs and multimedia display.

The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by several cities in Greater Boston in eastern Massachusetts. It is always held on Patriot’s Day, the third Monday in April. Begun in 1897, the Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathons and ranks as the world’s best-known road-racing events (“Boston Bombing,” n.d.). But on April 15, 2013, the marathon made history for something else. At approximately 2:49 EST, two pressure cooker bombs struck near the finish line of the marathon, leaving three dead and one hundred and forty one injured. Among the injured, twelve were reported in critical condition. The victims, who were treated in eight different hospitals, were as young as two (Lev, 2013).

He remembers the moments before the plane hit the 1st tower. He was terrified when he saw the plane collide. There were objects and debris flying everywhere. The people around him were terrified, wondering if the people in the other tower were alright. The tower was shook from the impact. He knew that he had to run, or else he would die. He sprinted as fast as he could to the stairs, when he was younger he had a similar experience, the Oklahoma City bombing.

I learned of what happened to the federal building in Oklahoma City until later that evening of April 19, 1995 from the evening news. It obviously was breaking news all day and it hit home for some people who knew workers there. The most heartbreaking were the lives of innocent children that were claimed in the bombing. Timothy McVeigh and his co-conspirator Terry Nichols were behind this treacherous attack in the U.S. On that day, the assault executed 168 individuals, 19 of them kids, and harmed more than 500. It was the biggest terrorist act at any point transpired on U.S. soil (CNN, 2001).

On April 19th, 1995 a homemade bomb made of a concoction of agricultural fertilizer, fuel, and other dangerous chemicals was left in a truck parked outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City. At 9:02 in the morning, it’s blast damaged over 300 buildings surrounding the vehicle and even flattened a third of the federal building. (Strom, 2015) The bomb took the lives of 168 people, including 19 children. It was found that two men, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Lynn Nichols were the ones who planted the device. Both men were found to be associated with a radical militia movement that sought revenge for a siege in Waco, Texas two years prior. The siege killed 82 Branch Davidians, of whom, multiple were related to the militia movement.

The Government's Response to the Oklahoma City Bombing The Oklahoma City Bombing affected many Americans, including the President of the United States. From the start the White House immediately dispatched the FBI. The initial reaction was to close the airports, but that would infringe on civil liberties. Government intervention with this tragedy would help many victims' family members cope with the loss of their loved ones.

In Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building was nearly destroyed from a nearby bomb. This bombing was the worst terrorist attack in the United States, before the nine-eleven attack in 2001. The bomb was contained in a rental truck, which was placed there by Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh then parked the truck on the north side of the Alfred P. Murrah building. At 9:02 A.M. the bomb went off, causing massive damage to the north side of the building and three hundred other surrounding buildings in the blast zone. The bombing had took 168 lives, 19 of those lives were children from the daycare inside the building.

I learned quite a bit about the psychological impact of the Boston Marathon Bombing. After researching the effects, I realized how much trauma these innocent people went through during a moment that was supposed to be joyous. People that were healthy and filled with life were either severely injured or had there life taken away by a senseless act. Some of the injured victims will never be able to walk again, others, never able to see their loved ones again. Martin Richard, an 8-year old boy whose life was taken during the attack, will never get to see his family one more time. The amount of grief the Tsarnev brothers caused can never be taken back and it has left a psychological effect on the viewers and the victims – runners, adults and children.

The day was absolutely beautiful, sunny with decent temps which made for perfect running condition for the runners during the 117th Boston Marathon, and event held on Patriot’s day to commemorate the battle of Lexington and Concord that had started the Revolutionary War in 1775. 23,000 runners lined up at the starting line in the city of Hopkinton, the first wave of runners started at 9:32. At approximately 2:49 p.m. is when 2 bombs went off, at least 5,600 people still racing towards the finish line at the time of the explosion (History).

Boom. That is the sound of hearts falling and shattering with the walls of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building on April 19, 1995. No one anticipated the chaos that would break loose that morning. At the time, those who witnessed the tragic event were not aware of the cause. The only thing they knew was that blood had been spilled, and stained the innocence of mankind. Twenty-one years later, the memory of this disastrous event still burns and aches in the hearts of Oklahomans as well as the family and friends of the victims. Though cognitive and physical effects of the Oklahoma City bombing are permanent, humanity’s desire to do good and progress greatly overshadows it.

Have you ever wondered how the Crispus Attucks and other patriots were honored? Well, there is a monument in Boston that honor those men and women who died for our rights. The Boston Massacre memorial statue is located in Boston Massachusetts. There is a great amount of symbolism included on the statute such as the women crushing the crown to defy the British rule and an eagle to symbolize the strength of America. This statue is an amazing memorial for the patriots that died for our rights.

The Boston Marathon bombing was a shocking and devastating event in the history of the United States. In the middle of what was supposed to be a very happy and cheerful event, three people lost their lives and 264 others were injured when two pressure cooker bombs went off near the finish line. Even though this was a truly horrific event, the initial response of the Boston Police Department to the explosions was incredible. Within minutes, additional Emergency Medical Service teams and the Boston Fire Department were rushing to the scene, hotels were evacuated, and police closed down a 15 block area around the blast site. The remaining runners were also redirected to a different area away from the explosion. It was truly impressive to see how well prepared everybody was in the case of an

How do you truly choose between two things that are critical in being prepared for a terrorist attack? As you point out there might be a time because of funding where tough choices will need to be made. As the United States move further away from 9/11, the government and the tax-payer may feel that to much money is being spend on a terrorist attack responses when we have not seen a large scale attack like 9/11 in 15 years. The only other attack that should come to mind is the Boston Marathon bombing, where first responders were critical in responding to several hundred injuries. Funding is under a microscope as the federal debt increases and federal spending increases.

On April 15, 2013, at the Boston Marathon finish line two bombs went off at 2:49 about 12 seconds apart. 264 people were wounded and 3 spectators were killed, 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, 8-year-old Martin Richard, and 23-year-old Lu Lingzi. At least 16 people lost their legs the youngest amputee being 7-year-old Jane Richard (“Boston Marathon Bombings”). The two responsible for this horrible act are the brothers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokar Tsarnaev.
