The Boston Marathon Bombing occurred on April 15, 2013. Three people died during the bombing. Several were injured two-hundred sixty more. (boston.com) The suspects were students at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Each suspect was arrested for the connection with the Bombing on May 1, 2013. There were several witnesses during their case. The charges were severe. Dzhokhar was ordered to pay restitution to the victims. There were a lot of law enforcement personnel involved in the case. Investigative techniques were used to link the suspects to the Bombing. Investigators had evidence to prove who set off the bombs during the marathon. Surveillance cameras showed two of the suspects. Dzhokhar was carrying a bag and a phone. The bombs were set off seconds away from each other. Two of the suspects were found by the police because they hijacked a car while using a gun and when the suspect escaped he went into a gas station and contacted the police and that’s when they received all the information they needed to get the suspects into custody. There were charges brought against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was the person that planned the bombing. He and his friends faced thirty counts of charges alleging that he and his brother set off bombs killing two women and an eight-year-old boy. Dzhokhar’s friends were charged with conspiracy, heroin trafficking, and obstruction of justice. Azamat was a citizen of Kazakhstan and he
On April 15, 2013 during the Boston Marathon in Copley Square, two bombs exploded near the finish line killing at least three and injuring over 170 people. This bombing sent the nation in an uproar and it was immediately recognized as a terrorist attack. When the Federal Bureau of Investigation took over, a few days later a surveillance video and photographs of the two suspects were released.
The article of my choosing that express American spirit is the Boston Marathon Bombings and how the city of Boston came together after a terrible terrorist act. Boston Stronger is written by David Ortiz Boston Red Sox Designated hitter. The Boston Red sox and David ortiz had a major part in helping the city come together as one.The Red sox won the world series in october six months after the bombing. David expressed that something like this should never happen especially on a day that represents sports so well. David had trouble understanding why the terrorists choose this event where people run for such good causes like raising money for cancer . Ortiz came was born in the Dominican republic and came here for baseball so he didn't know to much
On September of 1994, Timothy McVeigh began plotting on destroying the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. With him, he had two accomplices Terry Nichols and Michael Fortier. Early on Michael Fortier knew he didn't want to go through with this so he backed out, but Terry Nichols continued. Nichol's said it was because McVeigh threatened to kill his family if he didn't help. People say McVeigh picked the Murrah Federal building it provided excellent camera angles for the media to get its coverage. Also, McVeigh would use this attack as a platform to get his anti-government message out to the public.
In the end, there was just one Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. Ted was a smart man, he skipped grades 6 and 11, and started attending Harvard University at the age of 16 (Ted 2 of 3). While at Harvard in 1958, he participated in a multi-year psychological study which was said to have had a negative impact on him. Ted was a professor at UC Berkeley for a few years, the youngest there at the time. He never had a significant relationship with a woman (Ottley 11 of 15). He was against “societal progress” and was against technology, hence why he isolated himself in the cabin in the woods of Montana (Ted 2 of 3). Ted Kaczynski was jobless and cutoff from the world, so he had to get the money to make and transport the bombs in some other way (Goldman 1 of 2). It turns out, his family was unknowingly supporting his bomb manufacturing by sending him checks. Investigators composed “detailed accounting of checks Kaczynski had received from his mother and brother from 1985 until 1995 and had established a correlation between when Kaczynski received checks and the dates of the bombings” (Goldman 1 of 2). Over the years Kaczynski’s family sent him about 17,000 dollars which was used to construct the bombs. Ted’s family has to live with the guilt and be haunted by the fact that unbeknownst to them, they funded their brilliant Ted’s bombing spree that killed and injured innocent people.
How do you truly choose between two things that are critical in being prepared for a terrorist attack? As you point out there might be a time because of funding where tough choices will need to be made. As the United States move further away from 9/11, the government and the tax-payer may feel that to much money is being spend on a terrorist attack responses when we have not seen a large scale attack like 9/11 in 15 years. The only other attack that should come to mind is the Boston Marathon bombing, where first responders were critical in responding to several hundred injuries. Funding is under a microscope as the federal debt increases and federal spending increases.
A few hours after the photos were released the suspects shot an MIT police officer multiple times killing him. The two of them then carjacked a Mercedes-Benz in a neighborhood of Boston where they took the owner of the car hostage. They then forced the hostage to withdraw money from an ATM (Shallwani, 2013). The car’s owner was able to escape when the suspects stopped at a gas station. His cellphone remained in the stolen vehicle, allowing police to focus on Watertown (Shallwani, 2013). On April 19th shortly after midnight the brothers were spotted by a local police officer in Watertown (Arsenault, 2013). Within minutes the area was a standoff between the police and the brothers. As many as 300 bullets were exchanged between police and the brothers in the firefight (Arsenault, 2013). The suspects threw pipe bombs at the police when they were surrounded as well as a copy of their pressure cooker bomb, an exact duplicate of the Boston Marathon bombs. After several minutes of tense gunfire and homemade bombs going off the elder brother, Tamerlan, walked towards the officers until he ran out of ammunition (Arsenault, 2013). The cops then tackled Tamerlan but had to quickly scatter when the younger brother came in the stolen SUV and ran over Tamerlan (Arsenault,
On April 2013, Boston Marathon was under attacked by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The terrorist attack injured more than two hundred twenty-six people and lamentably killed three people. In this inquiry, I find it unethical that Dzhokhar’s three friends, Kadyrbayev, Tazharakov, and Phillipos, thought it was ethically right to remove dangerous explosives and a computer from his desk. It is emotionally sad that the three innocent lives were killed in that race. I understand that Dzhokhar’s three friends were trying to help him cover up the evidence. However, it is not morally justifiable right that other people had to be in endangered and killed in the marathon. It just makes the situation worse, especially for the FBI’s that were trying to find the responsible
London had just convicted the second man that was connected to the bombing of the London subway. The two men who’s act of terrorism left dozens injured and raised Britain terrorism level to critical. The Islamic took responsibility for the bombing. The bomb went off on the morning rush train; although many people tried to escape they were trampled and burned. Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, announced on Sunday that Britain was now in a severe terrorist warning and advised everyone to be aware of their surroundings. Rudd also believes that they can’t know for sure if the Islamic state actually did the bombing because they had no proof. Britain is still investigating whether or not the Islamic State was responsible or if another country is responsible.
First and foremost, I just want to say I have enjoyed your discussion and responding to them. May you continue to do well in your further classes. When I heard of this incident happened in 1996, I was quite confused on why they authorities thought Richard Jewell had something to do with the bombing when he made a call about a suspicious bag. As I continue to read the story, I couldn’t understand if Richard Jewell set that plan into motion, why would he commit a crime and later help to make sure everyone moves to safety. I get it that he loves to recognize for things he does, but, don’t most people. I just feel if a person set a bomb into action, they would not be in the vicinity to help people to safety; they would view and enjoy
At 9:02 a.m. CST, a rental truck filled with explosives is detonated outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was all planned by two former US army soldiers Timothy McVeigh, and Terry Nichols. Approximately, 500 people were injured, 168 people were dead including 19 children who were in the daycare of the building. This bombing shook the whole country. Luckily, the Army veteran Timothy McVeigh is arrested in a traffic stop because he got caught driving a car without license plate.
Suspects are charged with attempted murder on Saturday’s bombings in New York and New Jersey. The incident was found in a garbage can at Marine Corps charity race in Seaside Park. There were 2 more unexpected bombs near by the previous explosion, luckily no one was hurt or wounded during the explosions. That same night another blast occurred at Chelsea neighborhood injuring 29 people. The explosive seem to be a cellphone connect with dark coloured wiring and silver duct tape. Among all the wiring of the explosive seem to be a package which had note with a list of recent terrorists including the Boston Marathon bombers. Surveillance cameras in the streets showed a man dragging a duffel bag near the site of the West 23rd street, 40 mins before
Watching video, I think the accident in Boston should play a role as an event that led to American Revolution. I think 5 civilians died could have enough tension to pop up a conflict between colonists and British soldiers. The reason for the bloody day in Boston was British soldiers let their guns went off when they were too panic about suffering the insults, snowball, rocks and other thing from colonists. In these days, if guards or soldiers killed civilians like in Boston, a riot would happen absolutely. It reminds me about Ferguson Riot 2 years ago, and it was too unsafe.
On the covers of newspapers and on the screens of many, the story of the Boston marathon hits the ground. Twenty six thousand eight hundred thirty nine people from all over the world came to run in this awe-inspiring marathon. Until the tragedy strikes right in their faces. The explosions, injuring scores of people, effected the lives of innocent civilians. Cheers were replaced with screams, sirens, and the first responders providing aide to the citizens. This was a brutal event just like the one on September 11, 2001. Instead of using seclusion towards political and economical reasons for events, the mass medias perceptive towards incidents involving the religion Islam has created the stereotypical thought in society in which we live in today.
The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by several cities in Greater Boston in eastern Massachusetts. It is always held on Patriot’s Day, the third Monday in April. Begun in 1897, the Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathons and ranks as the world’s best-known road-racing events (“Boston Bombing,” n.d.). But on April 15, 2013, the marathon made history for something else. At approximately 2:49 EST, two pressure cooker bombs struck near the finish line of the marathon, leaving three dead and one hundred and forty one injured. Among the injured, twelve were reported in critical condition. The victims, who were treated in eight different hospitals, were as young as two (Lev, 2013).
As stated on history.com “On April 15, 2013, two bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three spectators and wounding more than 260 other people.” 16 people also lost legs that day. The youngest amputee was a 7-year-old girl. The bombings were organized by brothers, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
