“Both of Us”: A Song of Life

The song “Both of Us” sung by B.o.B and Taylor Swift has a very powerful message within the lyrics. When the song first penetrated my eardrums it made me feel good inside and gave me hope. My soul connected to the lyrics and my heart beat to the rhythm. The song gave me the message that while we need to help others in the journey we call life, we also need to take care of ourselves first.

B.o.B clearly states in his song that life is hard through his lyrics. “Cause if life is an uphill battle, we all tryna climb with the same old’ ladder in the boat with the same old’ paddle.” From these lyrics I took the symbolism of the ladder and boat being the way, we reach our destination in life. B.o.B states that as we are all trying to reach the destination we all are having to work together. Later in the song, he mentions the phrase “Everybody ain’t a number one draft pick, most of us ain’t Hollywood actors.” This is saying that we all can’t be the best and that others are probably better off than you. The message of this specific portion of the song would be that we shouldn't downgrade someone for not being able to make it through life as well as you. …show more content…

sings the following “you just wanna live, but everything so low that you could drown in a puddle.” What I interpreted from this is that how when life gets difficult the little things can have a great affect on your life. A puddle is seen as a small inconvenience that is harmless, but here he says that when things get hard a little thing can engulf
