Don’t ‘Ban’ An Extraordinary Necessity Have you ever noticed the terrible taste of tap water before? San Francisco has recently passed a law banning the sale of plastic water bottles. Why was this careless mistake made? The sale of water bottles on Escondido city property should not be banned due to state of emergency, traveling and convenience purposes, and health benefits. Water can not be banned, so filling stations and reusable water bottles will have to replace them. One reason people think tap water is better than bottled water is because they think bottled water is expensive. A reusable water bottle is more hassle, more expensive, and they get moldy and don’t last. So then, what is the point of calling inexpensive …show more content…
It is so much easier to sell bottled water than to replace it with expensive water bottles and filling stations. On the Washington Post website in the article written by Lisa Rein, it states,“Refilling stations cost anywhere from $2,000 to $15,000….” It is choosing an absolutely humongous bill over clean cheap water. Is it really worth it when bottled water is cleaner? Another reason why bottled water should not be banned but encouraged is because of emergency. What if there is an It is choosing an absolutely humongous bill over clean cheap water. ? Some earthquakes have been so bad that certain charities were looking for people buried in debris for days to weeks. If something even similar to this happens and all people believed in was tap water, they are going to wish they had a bottle of pure water in their …show more content…
It would seem that many people feel it needs to be banned, but why not just encourage the other side and let people have their rights? If the sale of bottled water on Escondido city property is banned, then there is a greater risk in people's health daily and during emergencies. Encourage whichever idea is more appealing, but do not put the other side down and disregard that they have just as much right as anybody else to drink bottled water or
Do you ever think bottled water is safer than tap water? You would be wrong. According to "Bottled Water: The Wrong Choice paragraph 4", it states that the city tap water companies must follow safe strict rules to make sure nothing in the water harms us. The bottles water
Bottled water has become a controversial topic as of late. There are always two sides to every argument, some think that bottled water is beneficial to society, whereas some people think that it is detrimental to society as a whole. Bottled water is detrimental to society because it costs the country an abundance of money. It is also harmful to society because it is damaging to the environment. A lack of sanitation in bottled water has also been connected to illnesses among people who drink it. Bottled water is in no way shape or form worth the price that one will spend financially, nor is it worth the gamble of becoming sick from all the harsh chemicals that come from the bottle itself.
Water is an important source in this world and it is a source that all of us humans need. Without water we wouldn’t be living today. Water comes in many different ways but the most common and the most talked about topic is, Bottled Water or Tap Water? There are many debates on which type of water is safer, better in taste, and what is more convenient. The question is usually what tastes better. I read in the article “is tap water as safe as bottled water?” “Tap water and bottled water are generally comparable in terms of safety. So the choice of tap or bottled is mostly a matter of personal preference.” (Zeratsky) I completely agree with this statement. Everyone has his or her own opinions.
The main issue with bottled water is the effect it has on the environment. Plastic bottles are drastically increasing the size of landfills and can take up to five hundred years to decompose. At the rate plastic
Water is essential to life, scientific fact, not debatable (Tracy). More than half of all Americans drink bottled water; about a third of the public consumes it regularly (Olsen). Many drink or buy bottled water simply because they believe it is of better quality, cleaner, and better tasting. On the contrary, several individuals do not know the cons of drinking bottled water. Today, there are many misconceptions and myths about bottled water. Many people are uneducated about what goes into our bottles and how it not only affects us but also our environment. In the article “The New Oil” by Jeneen Interlandi and Ryan Tracy they discuss the issues that have to do with water and the privatization of it. They believe there is a crisis and something has to be done. Due to the cost, pollution, shortage, and health issues, bottled water should be outlawed. Water should not be controlled by water bottle companies and should not be allowed to be sold in plastic bottles.
Teachers feel that students are missing out on class time because they go and get a drink of water from the water fountain when they could be learning. My answer to that is, using a reusable water bottle. Reusable water bottles won’t cost any damage to the environment, cost extra money, or allow students to be missing class. It is a win win for both sides! Another reason people believe that bottled water should not be banned is because it is convenient, and easy to grab on-the-go. I agree that bottled water is very convenient and easy to just pick up. But, that one water bottle that you just threw away, could have killed an innocent marine animal in the ocean. That one water bottle could have drenched a fish in deadly chemicals that a normal, human being decided to have and share with his/her family. You have to take in consideration of what could happen to everything around you. Also, why not just fill up a reusable water bottle and just wash it every day? You would be getting the same type of water that you would get in a plastic bottle and it would save you money. Why not save the environment while saving your money? To me, and probably most people with common sense, that answer is very obvious. The last reason why people are unhappy with the want to ban water bottles is because water bottle companies feel that they are being singled-out, and that we should ban sodas or juice boxes because they are not as healthy. Yes, there are other brand of beverages that aren’t as healthy as water. But, why can’t you be the one to share why it is important to keep the environment clean and healthy? Water is used by every single person in the world and if the water brand companies share a word about how we should limit water bottles from schools, then the environment would be a clean, healthy
I have always found it sort of curious when I see people buying bottled water. My grandfather told me that when he was a boy they drank water from the hose and it was free. I know growing up our household certainly didn’t bother with things like that, so facet water is what we got as well. The costs of groceries these days is expensive, spending extra money on water always seemed like such a waste to me. Now, that being said, some people live in areas where the water isn’t very clean, and buying bottled water is much safer than drinking the city’s water. Also, bottled water has become more popular because it is paired as a service; Bottled water is easy to grab on the go. It takes more time to find a water bottle, with a lid, and fill it up than to grab an already bottled water.
Bottled water should not be banned in school no because people come up with new ideas every day. Also if there is a natural disaster in a school and there are no water bottles then the water will be harder to drink. Also some schools will have no water flowing through the school so they will have to use water bottles. Also people can just reuse the water bottle so they won't have to buy a new one.
Bottled water should not be banned at north shore middle school because if you ban water bottles, then you are saying you can bring any sort of water to school.
From helping the daily jogger stay hydrated during a run to that mom and family trying to stay hydrated at the amusement park, bottled water has had a lot of good to it. However do those goods outweigh the bad? In “Bottled Water: Friend or Foe?” by Christopher Castillo, Diana Goettsch, Angela Reid, and Catherine Sterling argue bottled water are our worst enemy, reasons being the bottle itself has harming chemicals within it which we are drinking, bottled water damages our environment, and lastly we are spending more on bottled water when we have the same water coming from our sinks.
Tap water is extremely cheaper than bottled water is. According to Livingston, tap water costs only $2.00 every thousand gallons, whereas the cost per gallon of bottled water is $1.21. "That means, priced by gallon, bottled water is more than 600 times more expensive than tap water" (Livingston). Buying a bottled water may be cheaper at the time, however, that $1.00 or so adds up. When people buy bottled water, it is often the same as tap, just that’s been filtered or purified (Livington). So, why spend money on bottled water when it's rather identical to tap, with no
times more than tap water. On the low end, this would be the equivalent of paying $1500
There are many, many, many reasons to not use bottled water. It will hurt animals in the ocean, pollute our oceans, and will pollute our environment. If saving the environment and keeping it clean matters, then we should listen to the following: Use a glass or something reuseable for when you’re at home. If you want to go out, then buy a reusable, BPA free water bottle. Water fountains will always be sufficient in filling up water
Refillable water bottles may seem expensive, but in the long run it will be much cheaper. “On average, Americans spend about $5 a week on bottled water, this means you can save $260 per year by switching to a reusable water bottle” (Speer par. 5). This statistic shows just how much the average American (the world wide statistic was not available) can save yearly, let alone in a lifetime. This statistic also does not include the average money a year a person spends on soda pop, tea, coffee, or other drinks that could be put into the refillable bottle if they are bought in bulk. Many people say they do not have money to buy a nice refillable water bottle, but most people do have the money it would take to buy an eight dollar Contigo refillable bottle from Walmart that would do the job. Up to one fifth of Americans have tap water that is not drinkable (Karp par. 1). However, there are refillable water bottles with filters. Refillable water bottles with filters may be more expensive, but it is easy to find a cheap one at Walmart. For example someone could buy a ten dollar Brita filter water bottle. Investing in a refillable bottle will already save someone money after one month of use.
Have you ever had any concerns about bottled water? Do you think that bottled water consumption should be banned? Bottled water is water packed in plastic containers and sold for human consumption (Health Canada, 2013). Currently, the amount of bottled water consumed has increased considerably since many people feel it is safer drinking bottled water than tap water (Parent and Wrong, 2014). According to The Statistics Portal, the global sale of bottled water took a leap from 161, 589 to 181, 608 liters from 2009 to 2011. Only in the United States, each American citizen consumed around 32 gallons of bottled water in 2013, thus meaning an equivalent growth of 15, 94% over 2009 (The Statistics Portal, 2014). In fact, due to good portability, bottled water has been helpful in both simple and complex situations such as daily exercises and natural disasters. Even though having those few considerable advantages, bottled water still have been less beneficial; especially due to the negative impacts in the socio-economic, health and environmental fields.
