Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran once said: “Getting hit motivates me. It makes me punish the guy more. A fighter takes a punch, hits back with three punches.” Duran represents one of the hardest punchers in boxing history, and the best middleweight that has ever fought. He is one of the most experienced and successful boxers inside and outside of the ring. Boxing is a sport that provides excellent physical condition, because its high intensity exercises all muscles at the same time. It increases muscular tone, cardiovascular capacity and overall body strength.

One of the principal benefits of boxing is the capacity to increase muscular tone. Boxing doesn’t create bulky muscles, instead it provides well-toned muscles due to the constant movement. By punching and moving around, muscles are exercised at all times, which is very different from other sports where only one muscle is exercised at a time. Exercising all muscles at once does not make them bigger, it makes them healthy and able to develop properly. Bones also play an important role in having well-toned muscles. By punching and moving the hips, arms and legs constantly gain power and endurance. The oblique, shoulders, back, and many more muscles are contracted. For example, throwing a punch makes deltoids work in synergy with the pectorals, contracting the trapezius for another punch. This example clearly demonstrates how boxing improves strength in a very good way and how it involves a vast quantity of muscles. One of boxing´s best attributes is giving the ability to defend yourself. It properly teaches how to block a punch, dodge a strike, and hit properly. Because of this, you will be able to defend yourself in any situation (even without hitting your opponent) and leave with no harm done to your physical
