During my first few weeks at my placement at St Anns, I worked with year 1 pupils and nursery pupils. My role at the nursery was to help the children with their school work and supervise them during lessons and breaks, as well as tidying the classroom. My time at St Anns improved my effectiveness as a career in three ways. It taught me how to behave around children. When I first started working at St Anns, I was still incredibly shy and was not sure how to interact with the children but through observing the permanent staff there. I learnt that you should always try to be happy around them, you cannot bring any
My job while I was volunteering was to read and play games with these kids to make sure they feel like they are being cared for even though they do not live with their families. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I was given the opportunity to meet several different kids of all ages and spend time with them like we were their best friends. Some of
Functional Area 9. Social I give the children the opportunity to socially interact with each other. I develop positive and secure relationships with each child. Children often participate in activities that require teamwork. I meet children’s social and emotional needs by talking and nurturing them. I tend to validate a child’s progress throughout the day. I read them books and have finger plays & flannel board activities available. I try and help
In reflection the impact that role models and teachers have upon children and young adults is beyond measure, I will strive to become the best role model I can be in order to make a difference to my students. I've had two successful placements volunteering with children of mixed ages. During my time with Orchard Day nursery I was able to gain experience working alongside various members of nursery staff and after school staff. I also worked directly with children from infants and toddlers right up to 13-14 year olds in the after school clubs. I experienced for the first time how challenging these different age groups can be, however through strategic planning I was able to keep the children engaged and interested in both the play activities and educational activities I had set for them. Dealing with confrontational children and diffusing situations was at first something I had not envisaged myself being able to deal with, however, when an argument arose during after school club I was able to use my excellent communicative skills and draw upon my vast managerial experience applying myself in a calm professional manner in order to ensure everyone was happy. I also volunteered at Childwall Church of England Primary School and I was assigned to helping out some of the
The Boys and Girls Clubs The boys and girls club have been serving children for 150 years. They have given their helping hand to millions of kids worldwide. The Boys and Girls club’s mission has always been “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The Boys and Girl’s club was formed to assist underprivileged children or children who do not live in the best environment. This organization possesses a numerous amount of goals and achievements they want for each child in the program. They provide a safe and fun environment; help create skills for the future and help children build relationships with positive adults. In addition the
The boy that follows girls around and stands too close to them has improved. He has become more aware through social stories and repeated practice of the correct social behavior. All my students practice shaking hands and saying "Hi" to other students in an appropriate manner.
As I prepare to serve at kids connection I have a few set goals for myself to get the best out of the experience. I plan to fully commit and not just go there because I have to. I want to interact and build relationships with the children. I hope to find the children's interests out, so I can participate and do activities with them. By doing this I hope to learn about them and start building a trusting relationship with them. This is my plan as I am going in, but I know when dealing with children nothing goes as planned. I am going to be ready to adjust to whatever happens, but I am excited to help out with the children. All in all I believe this is a good opportunity to interact with children and learn how each individual is unique in their own way.
During my time in youth theater, I have supervised groups of over thirty young children. Being much older than them, I found that I was in a strong leadership position to those kids. In just a few hours at a time I was able to befriend them and help them improve in our show, as well as passing on my own knowledge. Once, during a dress rehearsal, a group of children were being very noisy backstage, so I took it upon myself to teach them quiet breathing exercises. Experiences like that is just one of the many
This was a great experience I had and would love to do again in the community. I love working with kids and making their day. It’s always a great feeling knowing you helped a kid become better as a student or even as a person. I wished I had done this earlier because I had such a great time with my
My experiences working with children officially began in 2012 when I started working for One of A Kind Progressive Early Education. I worked with children of all ages, primarily toddlers and preschoolers. While working at One of A Kind, I assisted the lead teachers as much as possible. I helped develop daily routines of activities, lesson plans, nap, and toilet-training times that seemed most effective for the students. I worked with parents during pick up and drop off times to make sure they were happy with the schedule and care their child was receiving. I was in charge of maintaining a safe environment for the students at One of A Kind.
When I heard that I needed some 5 hours of community service hours for my AAA class, I was disappointed for a while. I thought that I would need to go one some special mission there and back again,... or something like that. I was glad when I leaned that
I was able to really connect with everyone else in the society as well as build a relationship with the teachers and staff. Talking about my experiences with teaching and mentoring I was able to go teach elementary school students about communication and expressions at a big seminar that took place at a community college. After that I was also able to go to an elementary school in my town with the National Honors Society which we read to a class of students and did various activities with them. We would either help them draw and write about the pictures or we would do arts and crafts with them relating to a specific topic. Referencing the discussions from our first class something I am passionate about is being able to directly work with kids and like Professor Riem said you have to want to come into class everyday with a positive attitude or you'll always end up having a negative attitude. Personally I always like to have a positive outlook on things and I am passionate about putting my attitude towards the children I work with. Skills and traits that make someone a valuable team player is you have to be dedicated, focused, patient, and
My family has always fostered the importance of community within me. Every week for Sunday dinner my entire family gathered at my grandparents to eat, catch-up, but most importantly reflect on current events. This tradition brought my family together, and when I was ten we decided to turn our tradition
I volunteered at Edison After School Program and I learned many things about my community around me. I volunteered Therefore about three years and people around me started to notice. They felt happy when they volunteered and the kids felt like they belong. These days more people wanted to volunteer
During the winters I spend every weekend Skiing with students. This recent season I also began volunteering each wednesday after school for another ski program. When I was enrolled in these programs my instructor was who I looked up to. At that age seeing older students was what inspired me to begin volunteering. Over a few weeks I am able to see how much of a difference our one hour class make in the lives of these children. For some of my students the class helps them build trust as well as the ability to communicate with others.
