In Brave New World, their society is meant to be perceived as obscene or different compared to the society that people live in. Though, when comparing both of the worlds to each other, Brave New World’s society isn’t so far off from ours. When looking at the modern-day world, people as a society take advantage of the factors that truly make us feel or act human. Most of the time, people tend to not value what they have, whether it be their loved ones or the features that give them their own individual, distinct traits. In today's modern society, people tend to berate and criticize those who show any signs of struggle in their lives, deeming them outcasts. In the modern world today, people tend to ridicule and criticize those who don’t conform to the general population’s opinion. Whether that be over political stances or something as simple as some petty drama occurring, if they aren’t on the majority side of that situation, they are deemed incorrect and bashed over their viewpoint. A poll run by Times Opinion and Siena College found that “84 percent of adults said it is a very serious or somewhat serious problem that some Americans do not speak freely in everyday situations because of fear of retaliation or harsh criticism” (NY Times Editorial Board). Even though society has advanced and moved forward throughout history, people are still scared to come forward with their opinions due to the fear of backlash from the public.
