In My article, "Breaking Muscle", it talks about how and what makes people, such as athletes, be able to have high motivation in what they do in life. It ,also, talks about what in the brain that makes people motivate themselves to do what they want and control how much they work in life towards what they want. Motivation is huge factor for people and it has been proven that even animals have motivation, too. It's used daily in our lives, by what people have as doing their jobs to even as a kid learning how to walk. If you have high motivation it can help you get a higher paying job if you never give up and keep your eye on the prize. With athletes, especially the professional ones, they usually have a high motivational level to do their …show more content…
Some is that the athlete just loves the sport and wants to excel at the highest level they can as long as they're getting better day by day. That's known as a "Intrinsic Motivation". Another Type of motivation is, the "Achievement Motivation", which is when the athlete is too much of a competitor and hates to lose. The athlete has motivation to never will lose and will do anything to be the best at what sport they are playing. The bad part about motivation is when the athlete is super motivated, that it can be very stressful and sad if the athlete doesn't succeed, when all they do is train for their moment. Motivation can actually make a person sad if they work extremely hard and see no improvement in themselves and all the hard work they have been doing. Some people have stronger motivation than others, which is a proven fact. Many athletes have motivation, but many don't do anything with it. Some athletes work harder than everyone else to do good in the classroom, so that they can be a scholar athlete. Many athletes loose more and more motivation when the competition gets harder. The better athletes, that do make it to the pros, are the ones that when the competition got harder they still worked as hard as they could because they knew that some day they would get where they wanted with good hard work ethics and strong
The next similarity is having the passion for the game. We all have passions in our lives, although many of us might not be clear with that passion yet, many athletes have found their passions When athletes have the passion for the game it can move athletes through tough times and stay hungry for the next game. Passion gives athletes a reason to work hard and be the best player they can be. With a passion, athletes have specific targets to shoot for. According to Dr. Stankovich “Many years ago it dawned on me how important it is in life to have a passion and purpose — to be dedicated to the nth degree, and to have specific targets to shoot for in the big picture of life. I have learned that without true passion (also loosely known as intrinsic motivation), it is extremely difficult to truly reach your full potential in life.” Although it is debatable wither passion can be taught, passion can be looked for.
People need self-motivation to succeed because not every problem can be solved by others, some have to be solved by oneself. When conflicts arise, individuals need to seek out the path of best fit to conquer the issue at hand. Throughout my entire childhood, I aspired to be a great swimmer. When I was a young adolescent, my favorite sport to watch during the Olympics was swimming. How could someone move so fast through the water? The extremely close races and extraordinary comebacks always excited me. I wanted experience the thrill for myself.
Many athletes are praised for their performances in middle school and high school; however, when they realize they have made it to pay at a college level they tend to relax. Because of the constant praise athletes get an ego and tend to think because they are the best they do not have to try as hard as others on the team (or other athletes in general). They stop grinding (or putting in work) because they think they have already made it and their job is done. Some people are not as fast, skilled, or talented as other, but if you put work in you can still make it. Eric says that while others are relaxing and taking it easy while you are grinding soon enough you are going to pass them and become better than them. You have the drive and drive can
The investigators used a standard deviation (M= 14.67, SD= 1.05). The results were collected, evaluated, then shared which highlighted that the majority of those surveyed played multiple sports and those sports included but weren’t limited to, soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, and tennis. The results of this study showed the investigators that, intrinsic motivational factors were
We are going to find out by looking at a couple of motivational theories. First, is the competence motivation theory, which says people are motivated to feel worthy or competent and thus these feelings are primary determinants of motivation. The competence motivation also states that athlete’s perceptions of control work along with self-worth and competence to influence their motivation to perform. However, according to Susan Harter, “these feelings do not influence motivation directly. Rather that they influence affective emotional states such as enjoyment, anxiety, pride, and shame that will in return influence motivation” (Harter). A considerable amount of research has demonstrated the link between competence and motivation. For example, Wong and Bridges tested this theory using One hundred and eight youth soccer players and their coaches. Wong and Bridges measured perceived competence, perceived control, anxiety, and motivation and the various coaching behaviors. According to Wong and Bridges, “they found that trait anxiety and coaching behaviors predicted perceived competence and control, which turned to be related to the player’s motivation levels” (Wong and Bridges). Hence forth, the perceptions of competence and control that young athletes have are important determining factors to whether they strive toward success/achievement. This is good,
Athletes deserve the reward they work for. One reason why being an athlete is challenging is because they spend many hours a day, for months and years, training for their sport. These athletes spend hours and hours on workouts which are tough. The training also requires diets which test you mentally and limits you from what you want to eat. Another reason why athletes have
What are some factors that motivate people? Family and friends motivate people, or if they have a goal they want to reach they will try harder to pursue it.
It has been shown that athletes exercise because of their sport, athletic competence and social acceptance. These would be extrinsic motivators and are less related to self-motivation than that of intrinsic motivators. Non-athletes exercise because they want to; they do not have a coach or teammate telling them what to do and are often found to be more intrinsically motivated. There are numerous factors that play into what type of motivation an individual possesses, including those mentioned above: body weight, body image and dissatisfaction, knowledge, pleasure and
Motivating athletes’ plays can play big role on how practice or a game will go. Many coaches may hype their players up, jump up and down, or play music before the game just to try and motivate their kids. Motivation is mainly a mind thing. Many players may say in order to play good they need someone to motivate them. Motivation is good and it allows many players to perform better during practice and game time. There are many ways to motivate athletes I have four different ways I plan to motivate my team. For motivation I will set small goals, build relationships, give positive and negative feedback, and make the sport fun.
To clarify; the main difference in concept between my preferred poles and other poles is that my preferred were designed from first principles, and based on anatomical/biomechanical analysis of the arm's walking stride actions above the legs. From this data came further analysis of how the arm's leverage can be accessed without distortion - in order to complement that of the legs and maximise the users walking potential (whatever their fitness level or walking terrain ... those with ME, amputees (Mark Inglis, climber/first bilateral amputee to summit Everest - 2006), or the team who chose to use my preferred poles. In the Race to the North Pole last April - and won by a margin of 2 days (5 teams competing). In contrast, the concept designs
believes he/she has to be the best (Rosteensteiner). It is said that a task-oriented goal perspective can lead to more positive and adaptive achievement behaviors whereas for ego-oriented goal perspective is more maladaptive motivational patterns (Rosteensteiner). Sometimes the athletes’ goals are not in a straight path, and they experience a bump in the road. Most athletes experience some type of hard ship. Team sports at a young age help athletes overcome adversity, and bounce back to put the athlete back on track with their goal.
Hundreds of thousands of fibres make up every muscle in your body. Whenever you are taking part in exercise your muscle fibres pull against each other. Depending on how long you exercise for and how intense it is, you may feel an aching in your muscles after the exercise or sometimes even during the exercise that you are doing. For example, when playing a Gaelic match you are making your muscles work for an hour long period of time which puts more pressure on muscles, this result in “microscopic tearing of the fibres”. By resting after the exercise your body heals resulting in added strength in the muscles and could also result in the muscle size increasing. Proteins are used to repair the tears by filling the gaps and putting an additional
If you work at a computer in an office, you are constantly typing; the muscle movement of your hands, your fingers and wrist allow you to do this.
The dedication, time and hard work that olympic athletes put into their sport is mind blowing to many people. They dedicate much of their life to train for the Olympics. Somehow they do not give up or call it a day when they are struggling or having an awful day. They step up to the challenges in their life head on. Each athlete has their own method to stay motivated. Some try to mirror their role models, celebrate the little victories, or make goals. Others have a phrase they repeat, or they find himself in a sport and use it for motivation. Every athlete has their own way of staying focused and dedicated in the positive and negative times.
Athletes can become distracted while focusing on school and sports. It is necessary for the student athlete to remain focused on the goal. Everyone has different routes to get to their common goal. However, the common goal for most is to be happy in life. Happiness can be in the form of money, or starting a career that one loves. The ability to stay focused on one’s goal propels that student to think about the future and not live for the moment. Setting minor and major goals are some major keys to accomplishing that goal.
