Brenda Evangs: A Career Analysis

Brenda Miller is a mother of three and a wife. She works very hard at her work, Wells Fargo. She is caring, a hard worker, and a responsible adult. I had the great honor to interview her.

I raised money for scholarships to camp; helping hundreds of kids come to camp that would be unable to afford it otherwise. Development of a diverse staff was important to me. So I recruited, interviewed and hired central city staff to be part of camp. This involved going to their neighborhood for interviews because they had no means of getting to camp.

I have been involved with in our school and our community. In our school I was nominated for head of Prom committee this year. This position is quite stressful but I would not have it any other way. I enjoy being able to help and put my mark on it for our school. I brainstorm for fundraisers, activities, and small jobs our class can do to raise money. I also get to choose our revenue, theme for prom, and decorations. I do all of this within out tight budget. I

When I'm not in school I have Since my freshman year I have been doing marching band. As a sophomore I took my position as a upperclassman to help my freshman to the best of my ability. I help the freshman in my section to read drill, marching techniques, and how to play the music. While doing that I also do activities with my Girl Scout troop. I have been in Girl Scouts since the 4th grade and that has been a wonderful learning experience. From learning the ways of sales, to taking educational trips around the state i have grown in skill and character. Also for the last 3 years I have been the 2nd in highest cookie sales so that has been been very beneficial. Then during the summer I volunteer at the Durham Art's Council's Summer Camp as

Working for the schools levy committee was a big contribution to the school. We sat down for hours on end helping stuff, stamp, and mail out flyers to help gain support for our levy. I worked along side my principal from middle school as we made thousands of flyers that we sent out to the many people who live in our district. In addition to working on the

Freshman year during my lunch period, I had decided to participate in technology squad to assist those unfamiliar with software applications such as PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Google Docs. Also I was responsible to assign laptops out to students who needed them. When I heard of EMT Club, I automatically joined because I wanted to learn more on what it takes to become an EMT. I handed out candy grams to raise money for the ambulance corps and got to listen to current medical technicians that provided an overview of their responsibilities. In addition I attended a first aid class and got certified, so I can lend a helping hand in an emergency. Outside of school in the Fair Lawn Jewish Center Religious School, I helped students learn the hebrew alphabet and planned activities that would keep them engaged.

I have helped out at the Science Works Night at Oak Ridge Elementary. I have helped at Sartell’s spring Funfest. I have done roadside clean up along River road. The road side clean up was a nice experience to be able to be to help clean up our community and help the environment.

I do quite a vast amount of community service because I enjoy it. Last year I did some community service for the school bond, but also did tons of work for the North West Washington Fair, building and putting together the Small Animal Experience. The Small Animal Experience is place for families to see a variety of animals in a clean safe environment. Our goal last year was to make a better entrance and to make it more enjoyable for the visitors.

During my Junior year at Colfax High School, I was recruited into a new program called Link Crew which is a freshman transition program that welcomes incoming freshmen and makes them feel comfortable and supported throughout the first year of high school. This program was not only a club but also a class called Wings in which we would precisely plan Academic Follow Up's (AFU) for the freshmen, and organize events such as a Haunted House and a Blood Drive for the whole school. Also during my Junior year, I joined the Leo's Club which is a student run club that's purpose is to perform service projects within our school and community. I was able to become a certified volunteer of Colfax and Meadow Vista once I had not only met, but exceeded the minimum of 35 hours of volunteer work. Outside of school, I became interested in snowboarding which allowed me to get a seasonal job at a Ski

For as long as I can remember I have been involved in my community, as I joined Girl Scouts at age five. This sparked my involvement with the people and the world around me. I am still in Girl Scouts, but currently it teaches me more leadership as we help out with some younger troops of Girl Scouts teaching them to thrive in their community and take responsibility for their actions. I also volunteer at my church, helping run the café, and giving a hand in the nursery. In addition I help at basketball tournaments year round, running clocks and working within the concession stand.

I currently have 85 volunteer hours, but I continue to volunteer. I volunteered at my local branch of Habitat for Humanity where I cleaned and restored furniture that was later sold. The profit was donated to local charities in my county. I also volunteered at the local International and Greek Festivals. I assisted the vendors at these festivals. These festivals expose the people of my city to different elements of many cultures. I joined and assisted the FSU Office of College Access Programs, which is an office at my local university where a group of college readiness programs are located. These programs provide help to high school students in my county, and I help by doing tasks for the people who work there and helping at their events. I volunteered at local museums and participated in The Second Harvest Food Drive, an annual event in which my school collects cans for our local Second Harvest Food

During the my sophomore year of high school, I decided to join a club at my school name Intercat. Intercat is a great way to help out in my community and my school. Over the time I contribute a positive change in my school by joining the Teen Suicide Prevention and Awareness which we learn how to help someone out if we notices that they are going to a hard time. In my community I have done Feeding America, Keeping Moreno Valley Beautiful, Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner, Ride Moval, Helped out the Senior Center cleaning, The Springtastic Festival, I helped out with the Senior Citizen Prom and a lot more.At the end of my sophomore year I did 84.5 hours of community services. Working with the Capital Area Teen Court Program, I represent local teens convicted of minor crimes. The experience has been cathartic. I learn about my clients' lives and passions, and I stand in a courtroom and defend them before a jury of peers. Volunteering as an attorney has improved my communication skills and prepared me for a future in appellate law where I hope to use the legal system to help the voiceless. I want to become a lawyer and one day, I hope to sit on the Supreme Court as an advocate for those who cannot help
