- ST pipelines originated in the USA where they were first used in 1896 in the form of corrugated steel pipe culverts. Since then, steel pipelines for water supply have been used extensively throughout the world, including the UK. One of the earliest steel water pipe installations in the United States, still in service today, was in San Francisco in 1863.
Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel compared to freight trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe because of lack of adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations regarding the use of a pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard to human life and environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill.
The protest of the South Dakota oil pipeline seems to be getting so bad that it is becoming dangerous for the protesters. The use of excessive force by the police towards the protesters is in some cases life threading the use of rubber bullets, tear gas and high powered water houses in the dead of winter where temperature are below freezing at night it’s sickening that they can use such extreme measures . The people of the standing rock reservation are only fighting for the safety of their water and ecosystem and they are being treated like criminals. I worry with the election of trump the chances are that there is nothing they can do to put a stop to the pipeline I find it extremely hard to believe he is going to side with the protesters. What if the pipeline is happening
'If it weren 't for the oil, my people would be in poverty right now ': Fort McKay chief Jim Boucher
The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is a proposed natural gas pipeline that is planned to go through three states along the east coast; West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. The pipeline is claimed to create 19,440 jobs and provide clean reliable power to the residents within the borders of the three states. The pipeline seems to be beneficial in improving the livelihood of the residents of these states, however, the pipeline is also taking from the communities it is planned to go through. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline has created some controversy, among individuals especially when it comes to the equity of specific communities. Equity is the quality of being fair when it comes to making decisions.
Ultimately, Wagemans findings prove that while scientific argumentation as a whole is inaccessible to the public, use of topical argumentations can direct the media focus and public attitudes towards environmental issues. Through applying the same analysis that Wagemans applied in this article, the utilization of topical argumentations becomes evident in the debate over the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline. Because Wagemans expounds that these topical argumentations are imperative to the public’s conception of scientific research, analyzing the monikers employed by groups conveying scientific research such as the Minnesota state government and Enbridge becomes a gauge for how each side is mediating the public’s attitudes towards the pipeline. Wagemans
TransCanada Pipelines, Ltd, was incorporated by an act of Parliament in 1951 to construct a natural gas pipeline across Canada.
There is a continuous debate on whether or not oil pipelines are useful or detrimental to Canada. The Canadian government should approve the proposal of the continued development of oil pipelines, as they are beneficial to the economy and the environment. The pipelines that would run through Canada would benefit the country by creating more job opportunities, achieving an increase in tax revenue and being a more environmentally safe option for the transport of oil across a country.
Settlers used oil as an illuminant for medicine and as grease for wagons and tools. Rock oil distilled from shale became avaialable as kerosene even before the industrial revolution began. While traveling in Austria, John Austin, A new york merchant, observed an effective, cheap oil lamp and made a model that upgraded kerosene lamps. Soon the u.s rock oil industy boomed as whale oil increased in price owing to the corporation, which was created to develop oil found floating on water near titusville, Pennsylvania, was the pennsylvania rock oil company of conneticut ( later the seneca oil company). Pipelines early became a major consideration in standards drive to gain buisness and profits. Samuel syckel had built a four-mile pipeline from pithole,
The building of the Keystone Pipeline has become a rallying cry for it proponents as well as the opposition. Although the opposing side are able to agree on little else, I believe each see the importance of the outcome of the debate. I have followed the controversy closely for the six years it has been raging. The facts behind the storm point clearly to the problems associated with the project Building the proposed extension of the Keystone Pipeline would transport product that will place vital natural resources at risk in its transport, damage the environment with the mining process used to extract it, result in increased global warming by furthering our nation’s dependency on fossil fuels, and is not in the best interest of the country.
Although some might agree with the construction of the $3.8bn oil pipeline that would cross four states, others are opposed to that construction strongly, and things got violent recently. Protests are made to get a point across but that does not mean things won't get violent. For instance, there is a big protest that is taking place in North Dakota, that involves the construction of the $3.8bn oil pipeline being constructed on sacred land. Protesters are opposed to this construction since this pipeline would transport oil crossing the Missouri River less than a mile away from the Standing Rock Reservation. Not long after construction crews began doing their work, the protest started to get violent. In the article, “North Dakota Pipeline Protest
St. Croix River Association’s (SCRA) mission is to protect, restore and celebrate the St. Croix River and its watershed. With an approach based on partnerships, SCRA is a 501(c)3 non-profit working to realize a vision for the St. Croix as a place where rivers run free and clean, a diverse habitat sustains our unique and diverse flora and fauna, people have access to our National Park and the park flourishes, towns throughout the basin thrive, and people celebrate the river. The St. Croix River association is one of Minnesota’s oldest citizen organizations focused on natural resources and, up until 2009, was exclusively run by volunteers. The St. Croix River
When talking about courage, both sides show it by going against what the other is for. By that I mean the tribes in Sioux are against the pipeline and speaking up even though it could cause them to be arrested or injured. While the people for the pipeline are fighting for their belief in the pipeline, opening up themselves to ridicule and backlash for their views. They both are showing courage within their actions by fighting for their way.
In 1953, the Trans Mountain Pipeline was built to transport oil products from Edmonton, Alberta to Burnaby, British Columbia and Washington State, USA. The 1,147 kilometer pipeline was created to send light crude oil and refined oil products to the west coast to be consumed or exported. Currently, the Trans Mountain Pipeline has the capacity of sending 300,000 barrels per day though its system [1]. The system has also been upgraded to be able to transport heavy crude oils; though at a much slower rate than lighter products [2].
A topic I explored was burst street pipelines. At the beginning I realized the issue because it was constantly being brought up in the news on how busted pipelines were leaking thousands to millions of gallons of water. Consequently it made me angry especially with the ongoing drought in 2015 and 2016 and I was curious as to why these things were not being addressed earlier before they happened. I researched and found out that to replace all the old infrastructure throughout the United States would be in the billion dollar range. I also researched how little freshwater is becoming available and how the leaking water will sit in the ground for a hundred year till it is recycled back. With this information I was intrigued to come up with a solution
Too many people are worried about their own lives when they should be thinking about taking a stand against the massive pipeline project in North Dakota which is something much bigger than their own and is changing lives. Like I mentioned in North Dakota, where the largest gathering of Native people in opposition to the construction of a massive pipeline project going on near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Water and rights describe the fight. This is a sizeable issue that should be addressed because it’s causing harm and should not continue. Nevertheless the story continues.
