Of Rabi’s and Rabble John Chapter three and four have two very different characters speaking to Jesus. In chapter three there is a Jewish leader named Nicodemus who approaches Jesus at night in the darkness. Then we have a Samaritan woman who is hated by the Jews speaking to Jesus in the middle of the day in bright daylight. Nicodemus comes out of the darkness to speak to the true light of Jesus Christ and the Samaritan woman who is in the day light does not even recognize Jesus as the true light of the world at first. Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born form above to be able to enter the kingdom of God. Nicodemus was confused by what Jesus said but Jesus explained that the Son of Man must be lifted up and everyone who looks at the …show more content…
Jesus asks her for water because he has nothing to draw water with. She is taken aback. Jews never spoke to Samaritans. Jesus told her all about her life and he reveals her sins. She is a woman that had many husband and the man she was with at that point was not even her husband. Jesus crosses all divides to tell her about the living water He can offer. The woman is at first confused but then Jesus reveals that He is the living water of eternal life. He reveals that he is the Messiah. The woman then leaves and tells others about Jesus. When Jesus’s disciples return, he tells them that the harvest is now and they need to witness to others. It is important that we as believers are always looking for people to witness to, no matter who it is. Even if we are told by the world to hate others we are called to love and witness about the light that is Jesus. Finally, a leader approaches Jesus and tells Jesus about his son who is dying. Jesus heals the son of the leader from long distance and the leader and his family believe. But most people did not believe. Even though Jesus performed signs and wonders people rejected him. Jesus came as a sacrifice. We must have true faith and trust in Jesus. Because only through being born from above and looking up to the lifted up Son of Man (Jesus) can we have the eternal living water of
In our Gospel reading Jesus retreats to a Gentile area where he thought he would be anonymous, and no doubt Jesus was weary of preaching to people who did not listen; but, on this retreat, he was approached by a woman, and not just any woman. She was a Syrophonecian Gentile woman who probably worshiped Greek gods; yet, she goes to Jesus knowing what Jews of those days thought of her. She is desperate; she needs help; she presents her case to Jesus (Mark 7:24-30).
Over the years, Tim Stephens has been approached by universities to serve on boards, speak, and even become a faculty member. Despite his strong credentials, each time he would politely decline. It wasn’t because of a lack of interest, rather he didn’t feel comfortable.
You are attending a school and the same people that are into athletics getting all the fame. The Athletes are put on a higher pedestal, because everyone recognizes their talent. Deep in the shadows lurks people talented in other activities such as chess, dramatics, singing, video games, and plenty more other non-athletic activities. This is exactly the situation at East Jordan high school. At every pep assembly the athletes are recognized for their talents. Which they have deserved, but other students deserve to have their talents show too. Here at East Jordan high school, we do not have much clubs for people with other types of talents. One way we could solve this problem is adding more clubs to give everyone that moment to shine. East Jordan Middle/High School must add non-athletic after school activities because it will help
The people who are gathered in front of Jesus did not understand that this bread was provided by God, they thought Moses had fed the people. The bread was sent from heaven to supply for the physical needs of the people. The people do not understand that Jesus can fill them in a way that no bread is able to. It is evident that this crowd does not yet understand what it means to be a true disciple of Jesus.
Because he fed the people, large crowds followed Jesus wherever he went; however, as soon as Jesus demanded self-sacrifice, even his closest followers threatened to abandon him. Undeniably, the Truth (Jesus) can empty
Many people ridicule Christians for believing in a man who resurrected from the dead. They laugh at Christians and criticize them for basing their faith on an event that lack proof and evidence. However, the evidence that skeptics use to challenge the Christian faith, in actuality, support the claims that Jesus truly was the God that he claimed to be. The evidence that affirms Jesus’ claims to be true include his lifestyle and teachings, the prophecies that he fulfilled, historical facts, and the dramatic transformation of the lives of his disciples. Many may ask Christians how they can believe in a Savior without proof of his divinity; but, in reality, God has given us an abundance of signs. He is still providing us with compelling evidence
Moreover, he was crucified because of pardoning our sin. I know this stories about Jesus, but, at that time, Jesus existentially came to me as the incarnation. I realized that Jesus Christ is my lord but also sincere friend as he came down to Zacchaeus in the plan of God. This is my experience of and understanding God and God’s love.
But, being that they saw no one other than her, they thought she had lost her mind. What they did not see was that Jesus was leading one of his soldiers home and she was talking to him.
Rabia al-Adawiyya conceived in humble circumstances and sold into slavery as a child. Later, she moved to Bursa where she accomplished extraordinary popularity as a saint and was high esteem by a many of her devotee's contemporaries. Rabia's family were living in poor circumstances; her father couldn't have one drop of oil to bless her navel. Rabia was his fourth child that why she was called by that name. Rabia's dad dream of the Prophet Muhammad letting him know that the girl that he is grumbling about is the queens of all women. Rabia was known for her renowned expression that she express, that God if I was venerating you for the reason of fearing the hellfire, blaze me in damnation, and if I was worshipping you for the reason of heaven bar me from paradise.
Johannine literature truly portrays Jesus as God, with the theme of His deity interwoven throughout numerous passages. In this respect, John’s style differs from the other four gospels, as Bickel & Jantz (1998) point out that the other three had been written prior to John’s gospel, therefore, “he wasn’t interested in just retelling the events” (p. 222). Since Jesus is the focal point of Scripture, a scholar of the New Testament with uncertainty concerning Jesus’ oneness with God will fail to perceive the crux of Christianity. Therefore, in spite of its importance, John does not focus on Jesus’ entrance into the
Jesus was able to teach the woman that He is the Living Water. Like Nicodemus, she was confused at first and asked how he would be able to give her water when he had nothing to draw it out of the well with. Jesus explained to her that what he would give to her would be water that whosoever drink of it, would never thirst and would spring them up to everlasting life. When she realized the Jesus is the Messiah, she was able to discern that
The world was gripped by the tale of forgiveness, Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and his subsequent resurrection, as it was written and asserted. Through his first supernatural miracles and preaching, Christ had created a young religious congregation, but after his death Christ’s disciples and followers dedicated themselves to spreading the Word of God and the religion to the far corners of the world. Mass conversions took place with ordinary citizens in awe at the declared majesty of God, as well as the thought of a better life beyond the squalor of ancient
The actual programming of a computer is what controls its every operation. Similarly, society’s gender roles control every choice that a person makes. For example, “From an economic perspective, the traditional female careers into which significant numbers of girls are directed pay substantially lower wages than nontraditional fields. For example, in the field of cosmetology, in which girls represent 98% of the students, workers typically earn a median wage of $9.52 per hour, yet in the electricians' field, in which girls comprise only 6% of students, the median earnings are more than twice as much, at $20.33 per hour.” (Toglia, 2)
Jesus had to carry his own cross, that probably weighed two times his size, all the way up to wear the crucifixion was going to take place. Already beaten and bloody, they lay him down onto the cross shaped piece of wood and begin by nailing his hands and feet into it and standing the cross up into the air. What a brutal sight it must have been for God to see his only son tortured like this, but the good news is that he knew what his plan was for Jesus and for his people and he knew what was going to happen after all this was over. Jesus died hanging from that cross, washing all of our sin away and paying the ultimate sacrifice. After he died he was wrapped in a white cloth and placed into a tomb with a boulder sealing the door to the outside world. Three days after being placed in there, the people went to check up on the tomb to find that the boulder was pushed aside and the white cloth was folded neatly where Jesus was laying. The son of God, the Messiah, rose again from the dead to fulfill his mission so that we may have everlasting life in God’s kingdom. God’s plan for our life and through Jesus he teaches us that if we follow in God’s word and make him our most prized possession and ask for him to be in our hearts that we may to “escape the penalty that God will execute upon all who have broken His
Jesus Christ, God incarnate came to earth to save everyone from eternal damnation in hell. As humans, with Adam and Eve as our representatives in the Garden of Eden, they broke God’s one commandment, therefore allowing sin to come into the world. Because of this fall, we all deserve damnation, and because of the sin nature inside of us, everyone deserves to die and be eternally punished. However, because of the loving and gracious nature of God, He sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to be our representative for sin. When he took the cross, not only did he bear the physical pain of the lashes, the dehydration, and the cross itself, but he also drank God’s cup of wrath for us. Everyone on earth deserves to be on that cross, but Jesus, through his great love for us, paid the ultimate price of his own life to save us.
