Pace said that one of the men resembled a man he knew as “A.D.” who hung out with a man named Frederick Terrell. Pace looked at police mug shot books and said he was 80 percent sure Andrew Wilson was “A.D.” Pace said Wilson was wearing a leather jacket. Pace’s companions were unable to identify anyone. Marks was familiar with Andrew Wilson because Marks often ran into Wilson on the street along with Terrell. Wilson had been arrested several times in the past on suspicion of committing burglaries, but had been released. Detective Marks prepared an arrest warrant for Wilson and stated in his sworn affidavit that he had directed Bishop to Wilson’s photograph in the photo lineup. Despite this admission, the warrant was issued. On December 3, Wilson learned he was being sought for questioning and came to Marks, saying, “You know I don’t do stuff like that.” Marks then arranged for live lineup for Andrew Wilson and Bishop identified him as the man who stabbed Hanson. She also viewed a lineup containing Terrell and when asked if she saw the man on the …show more content…
Based on the identifications, Wilson and Terrell were charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a weapon. On 10/21/1986, Wilson went to trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The prosecution’s theory was that Wilson and Terrell committed the crime together, even though the prosecution had dismissed the charges against Terrell. No physical or forensic evidence linked Wilson to the crime and Marks’s affidavit for the arrest warrant in which he admitted directing Bishop’s attention to Wilson’s photograph was not included in the reports and documents disclosed to Wilson’s defense lawyer. Marks, however, did admit under cross-examination that “at some point” he had pointed to Wilson’s photograph. The jury deliberated for three days before convicting Wilson of first-degree murder

The Supreme Court case, Atkins v. Virginia, argues the crime committed by Daryl Atkins. Atkins, with the help of William Jones, abducted Eric Nesbitt. Nesbitt is an airman from a nearby Air Force Base. The boys requested he give them his money. When they realized he only had $60, they brought him to an ATM and forced him to take out an additional $200. After receiving the money, they brought Nesbitt to an isolated area and shot him eight times. The ATM had picked up the robbery on camera, so both boys were quickly identified and arrested. They both came up with stories that the other had pulled the trigger, but it was Atkins whose stories didn’t match up the most. It was a little while after that Atkins’ cellmate reported that Atkins confessed to murdering Nesbitt. A deal was given to Jones so that he would only get life imprisonment if he testified against Atkins. Atkins was then later convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death even though the defense had presented school records showing that his low IQ score is evidence that he is mildly mentally retarded.

Neil Beagley, a sixteen year old boy, complained to his parents about increasing discomfort in his abdominal area. His parents, followers of Christ Church, opposed all medical practice, and instead of bringing him to a doctor, they invited friends over to pray for him. Prayer did nothing to ease his severe discomfort. After a week, his sickness worsened and he died in his childhood bed. In the case of Conrad Jarrett I would envision utilizing two frontline treatment options in order to reduce the client’s symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Bryant (2008) designed a treatment protocol that combines the use of cognitive restructuring and exposure therapy. Utilizing both of these therapies within structured individual sessions would allow a reduction in negative cognitions (e.g., feelings of guilt and shame) should these feelings intensify during exposure. My concern stems from the patient’s previous attempt at suicide and my desire to provide Conrad with some tools to combat his negative thoughts increasing the likelihood that he will remain unharmed and in therapy through the duration of treatment.
A series of events began to enable pressure on Wilson and the United States government. Americans feared that economic investments in Europe would be taken over by rival powers. On October 27, 1984 John Lane brutally murdered his girlfriend’s four year old daughter, Angela Palmer. John had allegedly said that the child had turned green and ugly and tried to kill him while she identified herself as Lucifer. He had punched Angela giving her a scalp laceration and pushing her with force into the kitchen oven. While the young girl was in the oven Lane wedged a chair up against the door making it so the child could not escape, he then turned the oven on as high as the settings would allow. Angela screamed in agonizing pain and the neighbors heard but did not call the law enforcement until the yelling went silent, her body was left to burn. It was the smell and smoke that would bring local law enforcement to the apartment where as they opened the door smoke would pour out. After finding the source of smoke the officer opened the oven to find the small child deceased inside. John Lane and the girlfriend, Cynthia Palmer, were taken into custody where they were both charged with murder but Cynthia’s charge was later reduced to manslaughter and then acquitted of. As the trail would begin John would plead innocent as reason of insanity. His lawyer was smart to avoid the trial by jury. The trial went on in front of the judge and a psychiatrist had testified that Lane did know what he was doing at the time was wrong and that there would be consequences behind them.
