Story retells
Summary of story:
A Thanksgiving story is featuring a large turkey with a big problem. Turkey has been invited to everyone's home for dinner. With five homes to visit Horse’s, Pig's, Sheep and Goat's, Cow's, and Mouse's. Turkey knows there'll be a ton of food to eat. But there'll also be friends and their families who can't wait to celebrate the holiday with Turkey! Can this very plump bird make it through every meal without bursting? Since Turkey does not want to hurt any feelings, he accepts all of them. While he has a wonderful time at each friend's house, he ends up eating a little too much. In the end, Turkey decides that next year he'll host all his friends at one party. In the end, "Turkey felt like part of the family. It was a wonderful feeling.

Our activities that involved children in practicing reading "story retell". We use interactive, manipulative ways of learning literacy. We told the children to look at the picture and we told the children the word was something that can be seen in the picture. We asked the children to look for chunks in the word, such as “Touchdown, Munched, Crunched, and Feathers”, and some of them showed it.
What did you do that was effective? Ineffective?
Being patient with a calm attitude and a true desire to make a difference is rewarding. It is amazing how kids listen to develop their phonological because they learned to listen to phonemes and to count sounds and syllables during the story time.
What is the most difficult or satisfying part of your work…why?
At first, we could control the first group, and could control their attentions. I tried to read the story that I felt that I did better than the last visit. I tried to pay their attention and reaction by asking questions for guessing. However, we used interactive, manipulative that we could improve their interactions.

William Bradford’s “Of Plymouth Plantation” opened my eyes about Plymouth and Thanksgiving. First of all, there was a part in Bradford’s background that caught my eye: Thanksgiving. I am sure that many of us at some point visualized Thanksgiving as a large feast. However, I found it shocking that his narrative does not emphasize a feast, but rather a document of what it was like in Plymouth and the interactions with the Native Americans. Either way, I still found it interesting how Thanksgiving came to be. It would be nice to read another person’s viewpoint of Thanksgiving and to see if there really was a feast or not.
When I imagine “The First Thanksgiving”, I think of peace and harmony. Then my History complex comes in, I remember all of the rape, cannibalism, and disease spreading that happened in the years before “The First Thanksgiving” ruin my picture perfect scene. The Pilgrims did not have a farming aspect when they came to The New Colony but with the help of the Native Americans they learned how to survive. When I was younger we always were taught that this time, in history, everyone got along and they were happy. The Pilgrims came to have religious freedom and not to be treated as second class citizens. This is a notable act but they had various pathogens that they were immuned to but the Natives were not. Historians say that the pathogens that
Thanksgiving is functional within society because like most traditions or rituals it generates momentum for the unity of members in society. However, Thanksgiving is also a dysfunction in the American Society because it promotes excessive eating and therefore usually contributes to unwanted weight gain for individuals. During this holiday individuals are expected to take time from their schedule to spend time with family and feast on Thanksgiving stables such as turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and rolls and we identify this as a manifest function. The latent function of Thanksgiving is holiday shopping through traditional Black Friday Sales and preparation for the holiday, Christmas by putting up one’s Christmas tree and
Derry Koralek and Ray Collins (2013), English language researchers stated that: “Play is the work of children – through play and interaction; children learn how to talk, listen, read, and write. Read about typical behaviors of emergent and beginning readers, and how each of these behaviors relate to reading and writing”. According to them, as their language skills grow, young children tell stories, identify printed words such as their names, write their names on paintings and creations, and incorporate writing in their make-believe play. Reading and writing skills develop together. Children learn about writing by seeing how the print in their homes, classrooms, and communities provides information. They watch and learn as
My Thanksgiving is very different compared to the first Thanksgiving of 1621 in the food served, entertainment, and company. First off, the type of food served at the feast is different. For example, the food we use is store bought rather than the pilgrims who used wildlife that they had killed themselves. Next, they had different entertainment. Our entertainment consists of video games and talk about politics, while the pilgrims played simple outside games and complained about the winter soon to come.
I chose a career in healthcare management because it aligns my personality with my purpose. From my time as a National Institutes of Health Fellow in Africa, I love immersing myself in a culturally diverse environment, interacting with passionate individuals, and constantly tackling information and problems head-on to devise solutions. This has prepared me for challenges that I have had to face throughout my life. In particular, in December 2012, two days before Christmas, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and was given six months to live.
My feelings about the occasion starts with an outward positive aspect of the event as it brought a sense of harmony creating an opportunity to bond. Encouraging involvement in the preparation of family meals creating a sense of tradition while assisting in bridging the gap between generations. Stories that were told gave children a sense of family values with a deeper acceptance. Although it was never mentioned, this was an occasion that stimulated healthy communication coupled with healing. One can even look at this event as being a casual commitment to make time for one another offering support and a sense of identity. Truly, this time meant having a thankful attitude about life which is more inward than outward. Its means to be content giving God praise for everything in my life. Joy and sincerity was also a reality reassuring us as we devoted ourselves to food and fellowship putting stress and conflict behind us. Likewise, it meant a time of preparation, participation, and an opportunity to reconnect with our beliefs and values. It also meant having a feast with turkey, pumpkin pie, and more.
According to http://History.com , the first Thanksgiving meal was recorded in 1621. However, turkey was not believed to be the first meal. According to http://www.History.com, the pilgrims killed five deer so venison was definitely on the first Thanksgiving menu and not turkey. Additionally, pilgrims during the 1600’s did not have any modern Thanksgiving items that are currently on the Thanksgiving menu. This means, that instead of the modern items on the Thanksgiving menu like turkey or mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, they had roasted goose, lobster, corn, and codfish. Also noteworthy, Thanksgiving did not become a national holiday until the 19th century. Furthermore, the only reason Thanksgiving became a annual holiday is because of an
The Wampanoag brought popcorn to the first Thanksgiving feast. Basically this myth means that on the first thanksgiving the Wampanoag brought popcorn to the first Thanksgiving. The truth about this myth is that they actually didn’t bring popcorn. There’s nothing true about this myth there’s the Wampanoag’s didn’t bring popcorn simple as that. It reveals that people are easily tricked if they believed this myth. And there mindset is easy to be changed.
The Victorian Era was one of great changes in England. Revolutionary movements, such as the Chartist demonstration and the fall of the Second Empire in France, paved the way for new ideologies. The Pre-Raphaelites were inspired by the changing atmosphere of the times and through their art attempted to introduce emotion, realism and originality back into British painting. The members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood were John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, F.G. Stephens, Thomas Woolner, James Collinson, and William Michael Rossetti. These seven men chose to reject the Italian Renaissance, in particular Raphael’s influence, which was the style favoured by the British Royal Academy. Part of the
After Thanksgiving was declared at national day, turkey became a popular choice for a thanksgiving meal. Last year, over 46 million turkeys out of 243 million were consumed
“Every Thanksgiving I travel to Saint Louis Missouri to stay with my grandmother. Our first day off school for Thanksgiving break, be begin packing for our trip. I had ordered a black Columbia jacket that was supposed to arrive that Wednesday, so I hoped it would come before we left. My brother in college comes to decatur and brings his dog Dino (pronounced deno) so we can travel together. That day all we had to do was wait on my brother Anthony to come back from his Richland classes. It took a couple more hours than we were expecting, and everyone got impatient. I felt slightly ticked but also glad my jacket came before we left.
I found the article that you posted fascinating. I had not heard of the 85-15 rule before but I think it is entirely accurate based on my experiences in the workplace. I can remember numerous instances where I would have been able to solve the issue instantly, thus making the customer happy and preventing the resolution from being delayed and turning into an even bigger issue later on. But I was unable to do it because I did not have the authority to make the decision or access the resources without first getting the approval of a manager. The problems were occurring because the manner in which we handled customer complaints were too slow and it only gave the customer service representatives a limited number of options and no
This resource had been created to encourage a child to learn to read through play. It is in the form of a game and it is aimed at helping a child repeat the words that extra practice is needed from a book that has been read. The resource created is a game that incorporates play and praise in which are essential skills to support a child that is learning something new. Games enable all children to develop skills without pressure and are particularly important for children who may be less confident (Lindon, 1993). The ‘Let’s Read’ game can be used for a variety of ages as the words can be changed and personalised depending on the child’s reading ability. This game is a good way of helping to teach a child to read and improve on words that they struggle with because it is taught by learning through play, therefore the child is less aware they are learning and it is a fun way to practice. The child is also receiving praise and reward through the star reward sheet that comes with the game. By
This Thanksgiving I have many things to be thankful for, and all for good reasons. But I am the most thankful for all the special people in my life because of what they do to help me. I am thankful for the most important people in my life, my family, my teachers, and my friends.
