We as humans are constantly adjusting to new things like changing schools, driving a different car, or maybe people losing their vision. Britt Raubenheimer has faced many challenges, including losing her vision. People may think that this has changed her whole lifestyle, but not as much as one might think. She still does a lot of the activities now that she did before she lost her vision, but she had to find new ways to do the activities that she loves. Britt was born in New Jersey, she was a shy person who liked the outdoors. She did many activities outside like hiking, biking, and skiing when she had her vision. Then one night she lost nearly all of her vision in her right eye, and lost most of the peripheral vision in her left eye over the next 9 months. Over the years the vision in her left eye continued to diminish. Now she is completely blind, but that didn’t stop her from skiing. At first it was hard for her to adjust. For a while it was trial and error till she found a system that works. She goes down the hill by following the sound of her husband’s voice and board. She said that it is easy for people with visual impairments to do the calculation because the computer reads it aloud. The reasoning behind her going into the career she chose was because her brother is schizophrenic and was curious as to why his brain cannot process information like her brain. Wanting a better understanding as to why the brain functions in a certain way due to the genetics and chemicals that the brain receives and how some people get reality and others get delusion. Many people decide to do what they love, whereas she decided to do something to help benefit families with this who are affected with this disorder. She managed to go to school for only a few years where she taught herself mathematical and scientific subjects including anatomy, paleontology, geology, and scientific illustration.
