Brownies: The Boundaries Of Ethical Values

Our world is full of people who think very different, and discuss if they are right or wrong in a certain way. Ethical values play a role play in our lives, it can show our personality or in how we express ourselves. We don’t born with ethic values, we learn them. There are no boundaries for ethical values not even for children. We learn our ethical values from our parents and people who surround us. When we are little kids we do what we see other people do. We follow their steps, for example our Dad, Mom, Friends or someone that we are growing with is racist the probability of we becoming racist is high because when we grow up, we are going to the same thing that people who surrounded us did. For example if a little kid steals something and the parents don't say anything, the little kid is going to think that it's okay to steal. Another example is that when a little kid starts lying and when the father or other people that surround them don't say anything or explain the little kid that lying is a bad thing he/she is going to lie more and when he gets bigger he/she is going to think that it's okay to lie. In the story “ Brownies” Arnetta stars lying so the could have a fight. “Arnetta said she’d hear one of the troop 909 girls call Daphne a nigger. The other half of the girls and I were helping Mrs. Margolin clean up the pots and pans from the campfire ravioli dinner. When we made our way to the restrooms to wash up and brush our teeth, we met up with Arnetta midway. “Man. I completely heard the girl.” Arnetta reported. “ Right, Daphne?”.” If Arnetta’s mom doesn’t punish her for that or explains that lying is bad for her she will keep lying for the rest of her …show more content…

I always try to act in a positive way and i say “the past is the past we can't do anything about it to fix it.” Four years ago my Mom was stabbed nine times and it was a African American who did it. It was at the park and they were trying to steal her money. My Mom almost died and she was taken in a helicopter to the Massachusetts General Hospital. I don’t hate all African Americans for that. Not all of them are like that. I have friends that are African American and they are nice and they are real friends. The past should not affect a person in a bad way. Arnetta is affected from the past and that's why she hates white people. “My mama and I were in the mall in Buckhead, and this white lady just kept looking at us. I mean, like we were foreign or something. Like we were from China.” This quote shows that for that reason she hates white people.
