Mercy can be given to anyone at anytime for any reason. Sometimes it is wrongfully given but most of the time, mercy isn’t given when it is most deserved. The book “Just Mercy” written by Bryan Stevenson, talks about this injustice. One major theme that Stevenson talks about is that we all deserves mercy for some of the things we do. Murdering someone on accident doesn’t make that person a serial killer. Mercy is deserved in that situation, they should be punished in some way, but that person shouldn’t be treated like a mass murderer who should be sentenced to life in prison. Instead of judging each person on their own character and actions, they where all look upon in the same way, as criminals. These two themes are connected. They make our society a horrible place to live in. If we lived in a perfect world no one would be judge based on their race or ethnicity, but only on their character. Sadly, we do not live in that world and there always has to be someone to blame. In the book the people who were always blamed where African Americans and they rarely received mercy. In this type of society, families have to live without their mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters because mercy was not given to those who deserved it. I was not aware of the amount of injustice that goes on within the system. There are so many people who are wrongfully accused or they received a punishment way beyond what was necessary. It is wrong in so many ways! Family’s and loved ones suffer too. Social Status has never been a big deal to me. I like to try to think of everyone as equals which is part of the reason why this book infuriates me so much because I know what is happening is wrong and there is nothing I can do right now to fix
