Bud, Not Buddy Book Review Final
The story takes place in 3 different places. One is Bud’s orphanage called Home, the second is in Flint, where poor people lives, the third is in Grand Rapids. The main character is Bud is kind, sneaky, weak, violent, skinny. He meets another character named Herman E.Calloway he is old, sad, emotional, kind, strict and mean. The problem is that Bud goes to find what he think his father. His mom gave clues of his father before he died. Bud thinks he is a father but he never knows. Buds is on a long way to find his father, but he meets people on the road. He has to get the his father as fast as he can.
The highest point of the book is when all of the people in the band Herman E.Calloway realizes that Herman E.Calloway is Bud’s mom’s father. Bud’s mom ran away from Herman E.Calloway when she was 16. She didn’t like him and he was so mean that she wanted to get out of the house and go find a family. They were all shocked and sad when they heard the news of Bud’s mother died 4 years ago. That was the climax for me is was shocking and an exciting part. That is why I chose this part.

For example I’ma,sir,ma’am….. But still now other countries kind of use it like England says madam or sir also. For me this nook was pretty easy. There weren’t hard words. This book is so unpredictable, I thought that Herman E.Calloway would be Bud’s dad but it turns out he’s not. So what I thought was wrong. The ending is kind of sad so I wouldn’t say I like the ending. They ended up all crying which is sad. But I also liked the ending because everything was solve. Now Bud would live with the band. Bud likes
Bud, Not Buddy a story about a ten-year-old boy on the journey to find what he calls home and to find his lost father accomplished what I was hoping for it. The story has great characters and clear writing. The development of certain characters is clearly shown in the story which helps it move on. And this book shows the struggle of the people living during the Great
Response: I think the central theme of the book is the importance of family. Bud’s mother died when he was only six, and his life had been very tough. He said one time that “my eyes don’t cry no more.” It would have been very easy for Bud just to give up
The protagonist, Billy Budd, is the major force of innocence in the book. Billy is a young man who seems to have everything going for him. He is big, strong, handsome, and he has a personality that draws
exciting retelling of the boy’s actions and stories and as well a very good book. Hoose’s use of
The best part in the chapters is when they arrived in Bellingham. It was about the time when things were about to change. It was nice because it described how John felt towards making new friends and adjusting to a new life.
The plot in a fiction text is important in keeping the reader's attention. The majority of the story builds towards a climax. This climax is where the peak of action, suspense or thrill takes place, which then leads to the resolution of the story. As in "Lord of the Flies" the author continued to increase conflict between the boys until a full-scale war takes place, which is the climax. The building
the beginning of this novel Jennings Burch is taken to an orphanage with no idea why he is being put there. In the orphanage, he was not aware of the rules, so he was starved the first few days for not following the commands made by a clicker. Jennings eventually made a friend named Mark, who teaches him the rules and keeps him company. Jennings is adopted and brought back in the span of a week. His mom eventually came to pick him up, but his stay at home did not last long because his mom broke her back and he was sent to the orphanage. Jennings is in and out of numerous homes, getting abused and embarrassed along the way, but meets many loving people. In one home, he reunites with Mark, but a few weeks later Mark passes away from a disease and Jennings runs away. A police officer takes him in and his old bus driver Sal, who becomes a father-figure, takes him in and he lives the rest of his childhood with Sal and his mom. Jennings’ survival in this story is due to his immense psychological strength.
Imagine having to fend for yourself, as an orphan, during the Great Depression. In the book, Bud, Not Buddy, Bud is an orphan and has to go off by himself. He goes with his friend Bugs to get a train to Chicago. When Bud misses it, he goes to the library. He sets off to find his father, Herman E. Calloway, in Grand Rapids. Bud, Not Buddy would have been a different story if Bud had given up because he would've gone back to the orphanage, he would have never gone to Hooverville with Bugs, he never would have met Herman, and he never would've joined the band in Grand Rapids.
The part of the book that I found the least desirable was when George went out of his way to help out his two friends and older brother Garland. All three were staying there rent free until George received a $300.00 bill from long distance phone calls. He had confronted all three no one wanted to admit it. Although George had his suspicions, he asked everyone to move out. He needed his apartment back anyway to focus on his graduation from dental school. I felt that what they had done was not a nice thing for someone who has been a great friend to
Could you visualize yourself as a ten-your-old boy, living in the Great Depression, with no family to turn to? In the novel, Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis, a character named Bud experienced many dramatic events. His mother died when he was six. Soon after, Bud was sent to an orphanage. Still, Bud was determined to find his father and faced hard situations.
The story of Bud not Buddy would be very different if he had a brother. My topic is how life would be different if he had a brother. My third paragraph is about how Bud would have less food. My fourth will be about how Bud would not have met the Amoses. And finally, my fifth is about how it would be hard for them to travel. Also, my sixth will be my conclusion.
To start off, a part I did not like about the book was the part about Ove’s dad. I felt as though this complicated the plot a lot and was not necessary to the base of the book. It did not need to be added into the book because it had no effect to my understanding of what was happening in the book. If anything it made me more confused because it went back in time, then it came back to the present and it was confusing what time period we were in at the moment. A good part of the book was when Parvaneh was becoming friends with Ove because he needed to get out of his daily routine. Ove needed someone to shake up the life he had been living for many years. I would not recommend this book to adolescents because the book was confusing at some points and the humor was guided towards the adults. Personally, I would read another book by Fredrik Backman because the book was still very well written. I also could understand the book, for the most part. To continue, this book would be better read by adults because the humor was more guided to that age group. Also, this book is still relevant today because people do not live forever. We have to learn to move on from the bad times just like Ove did. When a loved one dies we feel grief, but like Ove we use the people around us to begin to feel better about what happened to us. In conclusion, this was a good book and I would rate it three out of five
Evaluation: Although the dialect of some of the characters takes some getting use to, I enjoy this book. This is an American classic, filled with humor but critical of people who can be so civilized and so cruel at the same time. It is a boy’s adventurous coming of age that celebrates the individual spirit of America and the romantic vision of innocence and virtue in nature.
These stories can be seen as different from each other in many ways. The young boy lives in a house in a suburban area without a mother or a father, but with guardians. He has a group of friends nearby he hangs out with. Though, he has no
From reading this book, I have figured out that the theme was coming of age and facing maturity. What you are about to read are examples of this.
