A majority of bullying takes place during our elementary or in high school.. Peer pressure is reported to be a frequent reason as to why students feel the need to bully their peers. Many people have experienced bullying in some way throughout their lifetime. Some people were victims of bullying, while others were the ones doing the bullying, or in some cases, they were both. It isn’t rare to hear that
Most bullies usually a victims of some sort of emotional trauma. Their afraid to do what’s right, when all they is know is to treat others disrespectfully, because they're treated like that. I think that we need to take a stand to not only help the victim out, but the bully too. If you see someone repetitively bullying, tell an adult. They might enlist the person to see a counselor, or someone who could help them out. If you stand up and make a change for that person, their courage may come out from behind the
An important subject that is affecting a broader amount of people today, especially our youth, is bullying. Bullying is a continuous growing field that is being examined constantly due to its complexity. An important and well known website named stopbullying.com unleashed factual information that helps, as well educates families on this topic: “In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Department of Education released the first federal uniform definition of bullying for research and surveillance … there are many different modes and types of bullying. The current definition acknowledges two modes and four types by which youth can be bullied or can bully others. The two modes of bullying include direct (e.g., bullying that occurs in the presence of a targeted youth) and indirect (e.g., bullying not directly communicated to a targeted youth such as spreading rumors) … the four types of bullying include broad categories of physical, verbal, relational (e.g., efforts to harm the reputation or relationships of the targeted youth), and damage to property.”
After some research, I found out that the main reason for someone to be a bully is the lack of attention, when a parent is absent from a child life, this kid crave attention, wants people too notice him. Another cause can be that the kid is being bullied from an older person that represents power to them, for example a parent, teacher or older sibling. That’s why they look for a less powerful target. Starting at very young ages there are bullies. They develop early and often never grow out of that stage, but rather it just increases with time and age so the crimes become more serious. Children usually turn into bullies for reasons such as craving attention, wanting power, low self-esteem, inability to control anger, revenge, or even to be popular. Popularity comes to bullies in grade school because students who like and are liked by the bully will most likely not be bothered, so it becomes a safety issue. Bullying has been around since the beginning of time. Parents may remember when they were kids and the bully would pick on them or their friends by stealing lunch money or just getting beat up, and that was the end of it. The victims remember the hurt, frustration, and sadness it caused. However, these days, bullying is not just happening on the playground or at the bus stop, it is happening on the Internet and on cell phones, making it possible to bully a child 24 hours a day with multiple bullies and thousands of kids watching. Cyberbullying follows children nonstop and into the safety of their house. Sometimes kids are afraid to inform their parents about the cyberbullying that they will think its there fault. Or that their parents will call the bullies parents or other parents, making the bullying worse. However, the effect and pain that comes from cyberbullying is real. People underestimate cyberbullying, just because it is happening online and not in person. Cyberbullying can lead to many different factors like drinking, and drugs, poor grades, depression, eating disorders. Many students have even taken their own lives because of another student saying something to them online. Cyberbullying has been taking place a lot more in middle and high schools because of the increased usage of social media networks and technology. Cyberbullying is worse and more harmful than traditional bullying.
Although, if the children of this generation are taught the right way, not to bully, their future children will not have that characteristic passed down to them when they are enrolled in school. Parents might argue that their children do not bully, that the other child, or children, is just trying to make their child look bad. In this case, the parents, if it is an outside of school issue, should sit with however many children are involved in the bullying and talk with them to get to the bottom of the issue.
With school-aged children, bullying more frequently happens while they are at school, or afterward when the students are not being supervised by their teacher in places like the cafeteria, bus, lockers, playground or neighborhood. Now that kids have access to online technology, bullying can also happen on the internet. With this in mind, teachers must now research and understand what bullying is, and develop methods to help fight against bullying. Bullying is the aggressive, unwanted behavior that occurs between kids of all ages. Children that bully are using the power they believe they have over other kids to try to control and harm them. Bullying can happen via verbal, social, or physical abuses, such as name-calling, threats, spreading rumors, isolation, embarrassment, spitting, hitting, destroying personal things, etc. In order to be considered bullying, these bad behaviors are repeated over time.
Many people do not realize how serious bullying has become. If you look at statistics suicides due to bullying have increased over just a few short years. This has become a very big problem for not only the victim but the bully as well as it affect both of them. School bullying is mentally destructive to not only the victims, but bullies because of the harmful words, harassment, and physical violence involved as well as the consequences for the bully.
What appears to be bullying is not always bullying. There is this misconception that when someone disagrees with another person or is hurtful towards that person, bullying always seems to be what they say is going on. Although statistics shows that one in four kids are bullied, all aggressive actions are not bullying. If a person has self-esteem and self confidence in themselves and not let others tear you down the imbalance of power is balanced. Bullies have more power over their victims and always want to be on top. They enjoy displaying the power they have over their victim.
