The McAllen Industrial Foundation conducted a meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the McAllen EDC large conference room. The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Ernie Williams. This establishment is a great foundation and experience to our youth. The day I entered the Alke-bulan center, I was ecstatic, but nervous to meet new people. The men and women there welcomed us with hospitality and a different language. They taught us how to speak Swahili, a language used by Africans. It was different learning new things, but it all had great outcome. We were taught to greet the teachers and other kids in that language, it was great experience they also helped us out with our homework after we got out of school, they were like our tutors. One of the teachers taught all of us drills and we worked together on it. It was a very interesting experience and very fun, but just a tad difficult to remember.

The clubhouse houses about 35- 50 members a daily, the amount varies daily. The clubhouse has the control over who it accepts membership from. Membership has no time limits and it’s voluntary. It is open to everyone unless that person poses a significant and current treat to the safety of the Clubhouse. There are no contracts, time schedules or rules given to members to enforce participation in clubhouse activities. They all have equal access to every Clubhouse opportunity regardless of diagnosis or level of functioning.
