BUS 1101 Unit 4 Discussion Assignment: Leadership 1. The theory that I agree with (like the most) is: Authentic Leadership theory: I’m predisposed to this leadership theory or style because of its consideration for awareness of the element(s) of reality, that is, life experiences and some other factors, and the adaptability to each environment one finds self. This leadership theory presents itself with the understanding that organizations are different from one to another, and as a result of the differences in structures and the kinds of people that can be found around organizations; the most important leadership capability is the ability to adapt to the environment. There is no one style that fits all, but this style helps to better lead as there are times when one may need to exact authority and at some other time, one would need to show humility. Because we all come from different backgrounds, have difference life experiences and different role models, our values, preferences and priorities become shaped over the course of lifetime. Instead of trying to fit into expectations of people about what a …show more content…
Though employees’ happiness is also important, how does this ensure added value to the organization? Considering that employee’s happiness is seen as an end in itself, what will be value if the happiness cannot be mapped to the existence or goals of the organization? More–so, my reservation for this theory is because the servant leader often sacrifices his/her own well-being to help employee succeed. Helping others is good and helping the community is laudable, but it should not be at the expense of one’s own well-being. Other theories also show or have the element of help for people, but are map-able to organizational
The role of business in an economy is involved in any type of activity that provides goods, services, or both to consumers in an attempt to earn a profit. Business drives up the standard of living of quality and quantity of goods and services available to a population and contributing to the higher quality of life in which is overall sense of well-being experienced by either an individual or a group. Business also helps raise the standard of living through taxes. However businesses do not only provide the products and services that people acquire, but they as well provide job opportunities that people
Based on the reading it is hard to give a single leadership style or even a combination of leadership styles because there are so many different levels of productions and management for this project. Each level of management will have their own required type of leadership and while some styles may overlap,
My preferred leadership style is the democratic style. I like to see things done the right way no matter how long it takes. To achieve this style I plan to practice my critical thinking skills so that one day I will be able to make a decision in the spur of the moment. But at the end of the day no matter how long you had to brainstorm to come to the conclusion, as the correct decision is made I am happy.
Organisations have a range of leadership styles depending on the size of organisation and achievement of goals within the organisation. Leadership style has advantages and drawbacks depending on the situation and execution of the strategies based on the situation.
With that in mind, leadership theory has identified four management styles--authoritarian, democratic, participatory, and laissez-faire. There is inherently nothing wrong with any of them; all have their place at any given time. But it's the communication aspect that is important when implementing any given method of leadership that makes an organization rise or fall, and determines if respect is retained or lost within the group. Stated another way, the problem does not lie in the styles themselves, but rather in the presentation.
Leadership can be of many different styles and philosophies; these styles and philosophies can be defined by what they want to focus on and emphasize in their leadership. The leadership philosophy I believe in is one of constant improvement, confidence, and commitment and endurance to carry out the task and lead even under harsh circumstances. The book Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable by Tim S. Grover reflects these aspects of leadership I have in my leadership philosophy. There is a quote from Relentless:
Before this lecture and assignment I never gave it thought about different leadership styles and what type I have or will deal with in the past, present, and future. This paper also gave me chance to break down how I’m a different leader depending on what situation I’m put in. As of right now it would be difficult trying to put my leadership style because I’m always in different positon that allow be that to specific leader. Right now I’m in a great position that allow me to lead other in the direction that benefit them and the
To determine the style of leadership used you need to take in consideration the task, the group of individuals needed and the relations created within the group in order to complete the task. In administrative chain of command, leadership is multidimensional function due to the levels the organization, the variety of tasks and general functions, and an abundant of situations requiring leaderships of some kind. I think that generalizations cannot be drawn because the job of a leader in any organizational setting is not is always changing. The needs of the groups being led, is seldom the same from one situation to the next.
My leadership style is a combination of two of the leadership styles mentioned in this module. The transformational leadership style mostly exemplifies my style and personality. However, I have implemented situational leadership based on the skill level of the teachers assigned to my school and happenings within the community.
Just as there are numerous ideas about what qualities a leader should have, there are various theories and lists by scholars about what styles are used by leaders. One list of popular leadership styles is in the book titled Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee. The authors describe six different leadership styles that have different effects on the emotions of the followers (Goleman, Boyatzis, & McKee, 2013). In their book, the authors identify the following styles and how it influences the workforce: The commanding style demands immediate compliance and is autocratic in nature because in this style the leader gives an order to be followed such as during an incident or emergency such as a fire scene. The visionary style inspires people to work toward a common goal and is useful when changes in the organization occur.
I believe my leadership style would be using more than one leadership style Myself I like using more than one leadership style because I have strong believe that every company or organization is built with all kind of employee with different background ,culture and ethnic. Situation are not always the same, I do believe that one style it will
Leadership is often an ambiguous term used to describe those individuals who are managing people and processes. There are as many styles of leadership as there are industries who utilize them. Most often, the culture of an industry creates a particular type of leader or manager, and individuals who wish to become leaders must change their style to reflect that of the culture. However, I believe that everyone has a leadership style that reflects who they are, and if provided the opportunity to utilize their natural tendencies toward leadership, can create a style that is uniquely theirs. This paper will reflect on the leadership style that I feel is closer to the unique style I possess. I will also discuss the style in which I feel less
My style of leadership comes from my passion and vision I have for any organization or group of people I am active with. I’ve learned that when working with others my passion and vision is
A leadership philosophy helps to define and let others know what you expect, what things you value, and how you act as a leader. Different styles of leadership are needed for different situations. Every leader needs to know when and how to display a particular approach of leadership within a group. Leadership strategies define every leader’s personal leadership style. Three leadership styles of a counselor are the following: authoritarian style leaders, democratic style leaders, and laissez-faire style leaders.
Leaders' styles encompass how they relate to others within and outside the organization, how they view themselves and their position, and - to a very large extent - whether or not they are successful as leaders (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Psychologist Kurt Lewin developed his framework in the 1930s, and it provided the foundation for leadership ("Leadership Styles - Leadership Training From MindTools.com," n.d.). He argued that there are three major styles of leadership: Autocratic leaders, Democratic leaders, and Laissez-faire, these particular leadership styles can explore the advantages and disadvantages of you used within a business or health organization ("Leadership Styles - Leadership Training From MindTools.com," n.d.). Here are a few examples from the MindTool:
