A Bush vs. Gore election, a completely unfair and illegitimate political race. Fighting for the final battle in Florida, winner claim to be the next president of the United States. With Bush’s brother to be the governor, every news station and political of Florida Palm Beach County, in Florida, home to many older and possibly more senile people. When voting for the next President, many people have believed to have incorrectly voted and claimed to have voted for someone they didn’t choose to. Gore lost the machine count, however many people were demanding a re-vote since they feel as if their votes were not properly filled out and/ or counted for the wrong candidate. Bush was leading by 15,000, however there was multiple mix ups with the numbers
Nationwide, Al Gore won over George W. Bush by 500,000 votes. When the polls closed, Gore had acquired 266 electoral votes, losing to Bush’s 271 electoral votes. At this point, the election came down to Florida; a mandatory recount was ordered by the Florida Supreme Court, on the standards that the “hanging chad” – ballots the voter has not punched all the way through – were to be counted. After the recount, it was declared that Bush was ahead in the election by 1, 784 votes. But, just after Gore made his concession call, Bush’s votes had decreased to about 327, with four major counties still pending recounts. Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, also a co-chairman of Bush campaign, ordered for recounts to be stopped. Eventually, the issue was taken to the U.S. Supreme Court, where the fate of the election would be decided.
The election of Bush v. Gore is known as one of the most controversial elections of all time, people often speculate the perspective of the election based on the popular vote and the way the candidates presented themselves. Known as the “Endless Election”, the events that took place during in the election led to a huge argument on who really won the election. People like to argue that election was rigged and that Gore should have been the POTUS.
The election wasn’t legitimate because the recount was never truly finished. The numbers are important in every election, but in the 2009 election, it was even more so. In the beginning, it starts when the Floridian electronic polling machines start an automatic recount, and that a portion of voters believes that they voted for the wrong candidate. Consequently the Al Gore administration later asked for a statewide recount. While in the middle of the recount the deadline was subsequently reached and were forced to stop halfway. Gore was only down by less than 200. When brought in front of the Supreme Court, the court stated that the recount should be stopped. With the Supreme Court, being an important part, this pressing issue was turned from
The question on whether Gore or Bush Won is still being talked about today. I lean more towards a Republican’s views but that doesn't mean I think Bush won fairly. It all comes down to a person's morality and judgement in whether they count the dimpled chad or not which they initially should. If Florida's votes were recounted Al Gore would have won with a ratio of 3 to 1. But in the end Bush did an exceptional job as president even if we got a war debt to pay he acted fast and I approved of his
The 2000 presidential election was completely illegitimate. Although it seemed Bush had won the 25 electoral votes there was a difference of 1,784 votes; which means there must be a mandatory recount. This recount happened because many of the voters in one county believed that their vote was wrong. They believed this because of the confusing ballot they had to use. The Vice President Al Gore’s presidential campaign team used this recount to get those votes they needed to win. However, this recount only had six days and there were 67 counties. This is where it becomes illegitimate because Katharine Harris decided she would not accept the votes past the deadline even though she was legally allowed to. As a result, The Al Gore campaign thought
The election of 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore was in my opinion, not legitimate. It all started in Palm Beach, Florida, where voters claimed that the voting card was confusing and they weren’t sure if they voted for Pat Buchanan on accident. “Revote! The ballot is unfair! It should be clearer where you're punching.”₁ The person responsible for the confusion was Theresa LePore. She spread candidate names onto both sides of the ballot because she said that when the names were listed on one side that the print was tiny “I was worried that the older voters would have trouble reading them.”₁ For this reason, voters in Palm Beach demanded a revote. The law in Florida states that any difference under .5% triggers a mandatory machine recount,
The presidential election of 2000 between Bush and Al Gore was one of the most tendentious ballads of all time. Due to miscounted votes in Florida the election was ordered a recount, to initiate who would be our next president of the United States. Katherine Harris, the Secretary of State of Florida certifies the recount to occur in all fairness to the people. She concurred that 18 out of the 67 counties didn’t run their ballots through for a second time. This was also one of the closest election we have had in presidential history, 327 was the difference between the referendum. The 2000 election was more legitimate than it was counterfeit. Allowing there to be a recount giving a deadline of December 12th is legitimate to figure out who will
The presidential election of 2000 between George Bush and Al Gore was not a legitimate. First the result of the election in Florida election would have meant that there would have had to be a recount to make sure Bush was the winner. Some counties of Florida did not recount the ballots. Furthermore, secretary of state Katherine Harris did everything she could to stop the recount so that Bush could win the election. Second, when the recount was allowed by an appellate court, it was stopped. The recount was stopped by the Supreme Court so that they could hear the case. The result of the case did not give enough time to recount all of the ballots. The presidential election of 2000 was not legitimate because not every vote was
Some people believe that this system causes more problems to arise as well as more chaos. In the 2000 Presidential Election, Al Gore won the popular vote, though he did not not win the election. This concerned many americans, as they accused the election of voter fraud and disenfranchisement (Doc 5). This resulted in several court cases as well as recounts (Doc 6). For these reasons, many citizens believe that the Electoral College may need to make some changes when it comes to just how much power they withhold in the election.
Once the voting process was looked at closely there were many irregularities. Some people reported thinking that they had voted for Gore but worrying that maybe they voted for
The election of 2000 between Al Gore and George W. Bush was illegitimate. Although presidential elections are to be held at a very high standard, this election was based solely on cheating the system. Both the Republican and Democratic parties schemed rather than actually campaigning when circumstances became difficult. A major reason as to why the election was illegitimate was that felons and those that had names similar to felons, were not allowed to vote. 20,000 people were disqualified from voting and only 33 were actual felons. Another reason was because they recounted dimpled chads, even though dimpled chads are not supposed to count. Although the dimpled chads cost Gore 6,000 votes, they should not have been counted. Also, 3,000 votes
A number of Americans fail to realize that when they vote they are not voting for the president and vice-president directly, but for electors who then cast their ballots in the Electoral College. Until the recent battle between Gov. George W. Bush and Vice-president Al Gore for the presidency, this new generation of American voters has never witnessed a controversial election. Historically, there have been problematic elections allowing voters to question this system. The Electoral College is now a process open to criticism and debate, specifically because many do not understand its origin or purpose today. On November 7, 2000, Election Day, I was excited to become an official voter.
The Election of 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore were incredibly close, causing much debate as to whether it was legitimate or not. In my opinion, I believe the election was legitimate. Winning the election depended on one state, Florida. Initially, Bush won by 15,000 voters, although one city believed that the voting process was unfair; they believe they were voting for the wrong person. When they recounted Bush only lead by 1784 votes. This number was under 3000 votes meaning they demanded an automatic recount. There was much debate on how the recount should have been done; whether it should have been select cities or the entire state. Many people believe that Bush’s campaign “rigged the system” and “cheated”. I believe
The United States Presidential elections are often events that captivate and interest a number of people around the world. The 2000 U.S. presidential election was particularly notable for more than one reason. Certainly, the fact that an election year in the year 2000, the marking of the next millennium and next century, is significant in of itself. In addition, there were a number of critical issues facing the candidates in this election, as with any election. The role, presence, and influence of the United States media were additional factors that heightened the tension of the 2000 presidential election. The election itself was fraught with controversy. The Supreme Court had to be involved and render a ruling with respect to accusation of fraudulent vote counting. Overall, the 2000 United States Presidential Election is an election that is remembered for controversy, polarization of the American public, as well as issues of confusion and mistrust between the American public and the American government.
After watching the movie Recount, I feel that the 2000 Presidential race was unfair. I felt that Al Gore, Vice President, should have won. At the point when one of the systems said that Bush had won the race, Gore was down by around 1,784 votes in Florida after an individual from Gore's campaign discovered that the machines added more than 3000 votes to Bush. I believe that it's completely ludicrous that the machines utilized for the Unified States Presidential Election could have miscalculations of this size, and that it is possible more votes could have been accounted for in Bush’s favor. It is unacceptable for mishaps like this to occur due to the drastic effect it has on the outcome of the election. Another issue that took place during the 2000 election process was the issue of the dimpled chads; which in all actuality could have been resolved if more genuine regulations were put into action.
