1. Describe what is meant by diversity and why is should be valued. Diversity can be differences in race, heritage, customs, belief systems, physical appearance and mental capabilities. Diversity should be respected and valued because nobody is completely the same as anyone else, even within the categories above. People tend to reject what is different. Our differences can lead to growth as a society or it can lead to violence and hatred. We must value our diversity in order to work together for the common good of our society. 2. 11. Describe ways of keeping waste to a minimum. The way to reduce waste is to print the minimum amount necessary and to check everything is right before printing out more. Use black and white ink as much as possible instead of colour. Using the photocopier make sure the copies are not crooked and that the number of copies are correct so that you don’t have to throw any away. You need to complete tasks the first time and if necessary make corrections but to reduce waste be sure to complete it first time. 12. Identify ways of using technology to reduce waste. - Using technology to reduce waste is by double checking that you’ll not be wasting paper or ink/ toner. - You can stop wasting electricity by using energy efficient lighting. -Using e-mail will reduce the need for paper. 13. Outline the purpose and benefits of recycling. To prevent excess use of land fill, or dumping so much rubbish at sea. Some items can be recycled safely, such as bottles. Plastics and other items are more difficult. Especially if they have held toxic substances. Some raw materials are saved by recycling, but the land fill issue is the main saving in recycling, as many items don't breakdown at all, and the toxic substances leach into the water table. 14.
