Ethics in the workplace help the organization to grow and prosper. They bring about leadership, work culture and literacy. Ethic are beliefs about what’s right or wrong and good or bad based on individual’s values and morals, plus a behavior social context. Ethical behavior conforms to individual beliefs and social norms about what’s right and good. Unethical behavior conforms to individual beliefs and social norms about what’s wrong or bad. Business ethics refers to ethical or unethical behavior by employees in the context of their jobs.

Ethics are thought of by many people as something that is related to the private side of life and not to the business side. In many businesses, having ethics is frowned upon or thought of as a negative subject. This is because business is usually about doing what's best for number one, not about what's really the right thing to do. Personal ethics is a branch that determines the code of conduct one adheres to. It’s a course of action an individual decides to take up in order to reach the ultimate truth. Following personal code of ethics brings accountability and responsibility to life. It gives a purpose and direction, bringing out a meaning to life. Personal ethics are huge determining factors of ethics at the workplace.
The usage of proper ethics in any workplace is vital to the success of the company. Unfortunately, companies fail and people sometimes even go to jail because of unethical decisions made at work. Take ENRON, for example. Were the actions of Enron’s CEO's a good example of ethics? No. But, what they were a classic example of was two things: One, those actions displayed how ethics were not used in any way. Two, their actions painted a grim and realistic picture of what can happen when ethics are neglected.
