The People Process Restructuring – In 2014 my current employer Silfex has entered a restructuring hierarchy. During this year we obtained a new General Manager and he is focused on aligning our business with our owner’s structure and combining similar business operations. Our previous structure was considered a Matrix structure that had direct reports from both corporate and our site, this system caused tension between managers at corporate and our facility. In this change our General Manager obtained more direct reports which overwhelmed his working duties with the owners and customer relations. His top project was to develop a structure that showed accountability for all management to execute in a given time period. The Pyramid structure was introduced as our new structure. This structure added one layer of management between the Director level and the General Manager which is considered a Senior Director. Implementing this has allowed our management to stay focused and connected to our internal operations while the GM and Senior Directors focus on executive and customer relations. For this added layer of management the engineering and manufacturing operations have adopted a 4-up system that updates the top management on our project and top focus dealing with yield or scheduling issues. Competition, guilt, and the contrast between Boy Staunton and Dunstable Ramsay is what Robert Davies used to define the novel, Fifth Business. Davies portrays the idea of competition through the relationship between Boy and Dunstan in their childhood, their military recognition, and their love for Leola. Moreover, the theme of guilt is shown through the experiences of the characters as Dunstable felt guilty for the premature birth of Paul Dempster, Boy subconsciously felt guilty for the death of Leola, and Paul felt responsible for causing his mother to go insane. In the novel "Fifth Business", the author Robertson Davies is successfully able to relate both the themes of magic and religion throughout. He achieves this relationship between the themes primarily through the characters and their actions. Dunstan Ramsay, Paul Dempster, Mary Dempster and Liselotte Vitzliputzli all help to illustrate the close relationship between magic and religion.

Business Administration The idea of studying business administration has appealed to me greatly and has encouraged me to further develop my education following this path. I have a keen enthusiasm to pursue a degree in Business Administration as I enjoy the challenges it sets and find the many different areas of business you are able to branch out into, very exciting! The case deals with two major transformational organisational changes that take place within a span of 5 years in Marconi PLC. The first change process was under the leadership of Lord Simpson who took over this large diversified conglomerate in 1996 when the company was in a mature phase, already in decline. The company was under performing, had a rigid structure, lacked a clear vision and the employees had become change averse and complacent. To recharge the company Lord Simpson lead a change process with a clear vision with a growth oriented strategy, acquisition and a cultural change process for the employees. To motivate the employers to embrace the cultural change he introduced an attractive stock option plan.
