Business management is defined as the act or practice of running a business. Managing is the process of monitoring, controlling, leading, organizing and planning. In the work world there are many opportunities for this major. The function of a business is to provide a service or product to consumers, generate employment opportunities thereby creating a prosperous financial future for the business and its stakeholders. Business management majors are taught to understand big and small business markets, entrepreneurship and the relationships between businesses and their communities. Graduates are taught skills to be ethical in business dealings, socially conscious and to be financially responsible. These skills will prepare them to pursue careers in the highly competitive world of business. Graduates with business management majors are prepared to pursue a career with a Fortune 500 company, government agencies, financial agencies and non-profit organizations. Those graduates with entrepreneurial backgrounds will begin to pursue new business opportunities such as a new business idea, business franchise or a family owned business. What brought me to have a passion for business was my leadership skill set.
