Since April of 2012, I have worked full-time at CARF International, an international accrediting body of health and human service providers. During my tenure at CARF, I have held varying roles including staff assistant, learning technology specialist, and research assistant, wherein I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of business units and stakeholders. My work experience at CARF has allowed me to see firsthand how different units feed off of each other in order to accomplish a common mission; in our case, of improving the lives of persons served in the programs in which we accredit.
I have embraced this mission wholeheartedly, and have striven to improve myself and my own community in order to further this goal. From 2011-2014, I attended the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in business administration with a focus on marketing. At the Eller College of Management, I took courses in marketing, management, communications, and research/analytics which I have since been able to apply in real-world settings to further event management and performance improvement activities at my workplace and in my community. In a healthcare marketing class, which I completed during my last semester at Eller,

In May of 2014, I began taking classes at Pima Community College targeted for direct care professionals, including histology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, nutrition, lifespan development, and psychology. Through these courses, I was able to gain a better understanding of how the body and mind works and develops throughout life. In addition to knowledge gained in the classroom setting, I took advantage of an opportunity to become a fitness instructor and thereby help improve the health and well-being of individuals within my community. I became licensed as a Zumba instructor in June of 2015 and now teach classes at my local

Although, this part of my life is over, there will always be lessons never to be forgotten. Now, I am 27 year old college student at Guilford Technical Community College with a full time job with one of the most successful companies in the state. My job is both challenging and rewarding, but it is not the dream I had before. Health and wellness has always been important to me. I am an avid natural bodybuilder and soon to be licensed personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Health has been a core theme in my life and will never be replaced. In some respect the last 10 years has led me to this career path. The persistence of a friend to get me to join the Gym when I felt all was lost developed a love that has never broken; my drive to make a difference in people’s lives when they asked me for my help in achieving their weight loss goal; and finally, a random suggestion of a client and friend to look into physical therapy as a career when deciding on a path after my
I am energized by lively discussion, value diversity of opinion, and am one who will always work hard to ensure we accomplish our goal. I have had the opportunity to serve as a board member for several organizations at Georgetown, have led fundraising efforts that have totaled more than $150,000, have planned large-scale events and conferences for Oxfam America and Georgetown Residential Life, and have overseen budgetary appropriations for several clubs as President of the Georgetown University InterHall Council. During my two years as a Resident Assistant, I prided myself on planning activities that appealed to residents from a variety of backgrounds, and I worked tirelessly to build communities where everyone felt included and supported. More recently, I became one of 40 SERVE Leaders at Fannie Mae working together to plan and organize company-wide volunteer opportunities, brainstorm and direct fundraising for the “Help the Homeless” campaign, and partner with local non-profit organizations to create strong relations in and with the communities we serve. I thrive in dynamic, consensus-driven environments that leverage my desire to solve problems and reshape perspectives, and my passion is epitomized in empowering and working closely with others. I hope to have the opportunity to bring this same dedication
I volunteer at Wagner Pharmacy, which is located in an underserved community. I help to improve patient adherence through medication education and Medication Therapy Management programs. I also perform hypertension screenings and assist the pharmacist in preparing patient assessment forms to furnish hormonal contraceptives, Naloxone and smoking cessation therapies. I will bring my unique pharmacy experiences to UCSD and become an exceptional healthcare provider.
Throughout my life, I have always strived to improve not only the lives of people around me, but to enhance society as a whole. Living in the community of the Gulf Coast has provided me with the opportunity to put my passion of helping others into action. Even though I am attending the University of Mississippi this upcoming fall and will be emerged into unfamiliar territory, I will use my basic values and passions to continue serving my hometown and college community even after I graduate.
Goal: Encouraging the community to be proactive in managing their own healthcare through education, providing discounted
My first goal in the future is to obtain my Master’s in Business Administration from Bethel University. Achieving this goal will ultimately open many doors for me in the consultant field. I do not want to leave the practice I am currently working in. I have been on my job almost since conception; therefore, I would like to stay with the company and watch it grow from here. In the future I anticipate nothing but success. However, I do know that becoming successful does not come easy. I am prepared for stumbling blocks that may come my way. I envision myself being a successful consultant for Taylor Healthcare Consultant (THC) group. I would travel the world helping other practitioners reach their highest potential and making sure their office is running efficiently. To help secure my future I will use the P.O.W.E.R Learning as a tool to help guide me along the way.
I made a promise to myself to commit to and be involved in helping others to change their lives very early on in my development and education. I find satisfaction in connecting with others while empowering individuals to make positive changes that lead to healthier lives. As I provide pharmacy services on a daily basis, my connections grow within my patient population and extend out into the community. These include volunteering at Little Bit Therapeutic Horse Ranch with disabled adults; teaching fitness classes for recovering alcoholics at Recovery Café; providing medication therapy management to underserved patient populations at Neighborcare Health Ballard Homeless Clinic;
I was invigorated by the opportunity and challenge of transforming a previously dismembered organization to a tight-knit community. I knew that the best way to achieve my goal was by providing resources that would motivate members towards achieving their goals. I sought out health professionals to pour their passion and experience into the members of our group, organized purposeful biweekly meetings, shared
I haven’t learned a lot in previous health classes because we only sometimes had it, once a week, for half of the year. In those few classes, we mostly learned just the basics of the different systems in the body. This year, I hope to get a more in depth and advanced knowledge of these systems. I also hope to learn about different diseases and disorders people can have because these things, especially mental disorders, greatly interest
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love what you are doing or learning to do” – Pele. Before applying for the Nutrition Programming Internship I thought to myself how I could use my education in nutrition to fulfill this role to my highest potential. I knew that I was interested in studying, learning, and researching nutrition but one thing I failed to ponder about was how I could raise nutrition awareness to the surrounding communities in Nashville. Of course, I’ve thought about specific programs and seminars I was willing to execute but I lacked the most important skills that were important for leading and developing programs; confidence and stage presence. I always played the background role in a group or
Taking the skills that I have acquired during this master’s program and focusing on healthcare, I decided on Lexington Medical Center for my capstone project as I see great growth and opportunity here. That opportunity and growth is experienced not only as an employee but as a patient and a community member that works and plays in this area. I can identify with the mission and value statements of Lexington and feel confident that each day these are being played out in each area of this hospital. It is my hope that once I am completed with my masters that I can find a role in either the Resource Center or Community Outreach developing communication campaigns to support Lexington’s Mission and Value Statements. I would
My passion and admiration for the healthcare field began during my teenage years, when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis—a chronic, autoimmune disease affecting various joints throughout my body. As I went through years of treatment, my physician and other medical professionals were instrumental in helping me to maintain a positive attitude after my diagnosis. Their care was the impetus for my future goals, as I saw the genuine goodness that they felt from helping others. As a result of all the medical help and emotional support that I received from these medical providers throughout my youth, I have chosen to pursue a career in the service of others through the public health field.
Interning at the American Heart Association, I am able to work with community strategic partners such as health care professionals, businesses, and community based organizations to expand health. I collaborate with other legacy leaders from the California State University, Fullerton as well as the University of California, Irvine to plan and attend health fairs in Orange County. Since interning at AHA, I have attended about seven health fairs and the health fair that had left a lasting memory with me, would be the health fair held at the John Wayne Airport. This health fair was super informative for me because while informing the employees about blood pressure and strokes, I learned that there have recently been quite a few heart attacks at the airport. The employees were extremely thankful that we came and gave them such informative and life changing information about heart health. Usually before going to these health fairs, a group of legacy leaders would get together and see what we will be teaching the community that event and go from there. We all talk and then develop a way to get the community involved by thinking of ways to make learning the information in a way that is interactive and fun. Interactive activities make leaning much more fun and easier to remember. I also had the opportunity to make my own community event and go out and teach others. I chose to do my event teaching hands only CPR to my bible school class on Saturday. My students loved how interactive
