Why or why not? Ultra-low prices and treasure-hunt shopping cause merchandise to move quickly. The ensuing high sales volume and rapid inventory turnover allow Costco to sell inventory as soon as it arrives at the warehouse resulting in significant savings. To ensure ultra-low prices Costco caps mark-up at 14% and marks up Kirkland products at only 15%. Treasure-hunt shopping creates a sense of urgency as members know they better buy an item or it will not be there the next time.

Banner Elk, North Carolina, is not only nestled in the heart of the Appalachian mountains, but has been implanted into my heart and soul from an early age. From the surface, it is home to a little over 1,000 people, a small college, and a couple ski resorts, but to me it has much more to offer. A plethora of memories originate from experiences I have had there, which have cumulatively molded me into the young man I betray today.

Now that I have told you how they are the same and different, I hope that the next time you go to either of the stores you take into consideration what I have talked about. Even though they are both owned by the same company I hope you pick the one that fits your needs and products you want. Make sure when you go into the outdoors you have the right equipment. Shannon Danner 335986651 Assignment #4 Black Friday Analysis Black Friday is the following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many workers have the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday, this increases the number of potential shoppers. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas and holiday season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open extremely early, with most of the retailers typically opening at 5 A.M. or even earlier. Retailers use Black Friday to kick off the holiday season to use much of their products to go from the red to the black.
Technological As the economy begins to strengthen, consumers are beginning to spend. Much of that spending will be done over the Internet. According to Forbes Magazine, “overall U.S. retail e-commerce spending for the first 25 days of the November – December 2011 holiday season, totaled $12.7 billion, a 15-percent increase versus the corresponding days last year (par. 4)”. Costco’s business model focuses on selling limited selection of products at low prices, often at very high volume and rapid inventory turnover. These goods are bulk-packaged and marketed primarily to large families and businesses. Costco does not carry multiple brands or varieties where the item is essentially the same. It provides members with a selection of only about 4000 items, this results in a high volume of sales from a single vendor, allowing further reductions in price, and reducing marketing costs. Costco also saves money by not stocking extra bags or packing materials; to carry out their goods, customers must bring their own
