Despite the fact that this experiment had a small sample group, impressive results were established. Theoretically, with an increased sample population, the experiment would have had more tests with additional noteworthy results. In order to have the most accurate and significant results, this experiment selected various people of diverse backgrounds. The participants would have diverse ages, gender and weight. All participants needed to be in relatively good health. Participants affirmed that they did not have high cholesterol, heart disease, or any other vascular issues that may have skewed results. Time was also essential. Partakers of the experiment needed to spend four consecutive hours for testing and monitoring results. One hour for preparation and the other three during the experiment. They also needed to commit to two consecutive Saturdays at the same time, to keep the experiment consistent. Five volunteers were able to pass the requirements needed for this experiment. Although the sample size was relatively small, the experiment went forward and had some significant outcomes. …show more content…
There were four females of different ages. Our forty-eight year old drinks one cup of coffee every morning. Our twenty-six year old female drinks one to two cups of coffee daily. Our seventeen year old drinks coffee on school days. Lastly, the thirteen-year-old female claimed to drink iced-coffee occasionally but consumes at least one caffeine product daily. Both our seventeen and thirteen year old members had parent consent to participate in the experiment. Once arrived at the testing location, participants were given a folder with directions and self-evaluation sheets. Various questions were answered that regarded the experiment and the surveys. Needless to say, some participants were taking a placebo and not actually consuming caffeine. They were not aware they were drinking decaffeinated
Doctors Craig Haney, Curtis Banks and headed by Doctor Phillip Zimbardo. This article provides in detail the initial purpose for this study, its participants, the nature of the study, the events that transpired during the experiment and of its results. With this article we are provided with a clear picture of the events that had transpired during the experiment and provides some insight into why the events may have occurred.
The subjects of the experimental study performed were 14 firefighters who were attendees at the Fire Academy. They were all volunteers and met the requirements to be subjects, including having no medical issues that could affect or be affected by the test and being in good physical health with no injuries. Each subject was cleared by physicians to be participants in the experiment and all agreed for information about the study to be released.
Our experiment was performed in the Science and Technology build on the USCB Bluffton Campus on October 6th from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. In order to construct the study for this experiment, we divided the actual experiment work in order to be able to complete the study for all sixteen (16) subjects within the given time period available to accommodate the test subjects. The experiments was conducted in the hallway, during the process we tested three participants at a time. We constructed an informational form regarding gender, age, weight amount of exercise per week. The supplies needed were approximately 25 test participants for the class, informational form, a blood pressure reader, timer, 15 jumping jacks, three chairs, paper and pencil to record
The following procedures and materials were thought up by my partner and me, which was done on a small scale due to lack of time to perform a full fledge experiment that involved a large sample size. Our project consisted of a sample size of ten people in which each subject was given a survey to complete and a consent form to sign stating what the experiment was about. We also expressed with the up most confidence that their scores and identities within this research will be kept confidential. We articulated to each subject to not drink any caffeine four hours prior to the experiment so that we would not have any type of bias. My partner and I obtained ten cups (regular coffee cups) on day 1 and filled each cup with 200ml of water, in which five out of the ten cups had the caffeine pill ( dissolve in water before giving to subject)
The first participants for the study were men (a later experiment tested women) recruited by adverts in the local newspapers, offering $4.50, they called on people from all back grounds and professions to take part. The results were startling, 65% of the 40 participants completed the experiment and the lowest point
Over 70 volunteers responded to an ad in the paper for the experiment and went through psychological tests
The researchers addressed known influential factors verbally, but not all factors were controlled during the experiment. For example, time of day, the white coat effect along with respirations and heart rate were not addressed in the results.
A total of 59 participants took part in this experiment. They were split into two independent experimental groups, one being the control group, and the other the experimental group. There were 30 participants in the control group, and 29 participants in the experimental group. The male to female ratio was fairly equal with
The subjects refrained from caffeine, standardized diet, and standardized training for 48 hrs before the trials. For 24 hours before the trials, each subject was given a prepackaged standard diet. Exercise and food diaries were kept and checked for compliance.
This experience consisted of 20 subjects from Woden plaza varying of age and gender. It also included one student who was going to conduct the experiment.
From the results obtained from conducting this experiment, it can be observed that caffeine influences blood pressure levels, both systolic and diastolic and causes it to spike up within a short period of time. These results support the research conducted prior to this experiment, which states that caffeine consumption causes blood pressure levels to rise due to a sudden increase in adrenaline and vasoconstriction in the body.
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about what caffeine is, the effects of it, and the withdrawal symptoms.
Volunteers will be sought out for this study. The volunteers will be assigned one of two testing times. Testing Group 1 will participate in the morning between 9AM – 12PM. Testing Group 2 will participate in the afternoon between 1PM - 4PM. Instructions to eat prior to showing up for the study will be supplied
Caffeine is widely available to everyone, including teenagers and young children. The Mayo Clinic recommends a daily dosage of one hundred milligrams for teenagers, but most teenagers consume anywhere from sixty to eight hundred milligrams throughout the day. While yes, there are some positive effects of caffeine, such as increasing alertness and containing antioxidants that can aid heart health, there are still some negative ramifications that mainly affect teenagers, or more specifically, their brains. In a recent study, it was discovered that with teenagers, the more coffee you drink, the harder it is to fall asleep. Since the adolescent brain forms when you are in deep sleep, the lack of sleep caused by caffeine disrupts the formation
Thesis Statement: Caffeine is something that almost everyone has consumed and some people are even addicted to, it has negative and positive effects on one’s health.
