CHAPTER 2 MANAGEMENT FEASIBILITY BUSINESS ORGANIZATION Choosing the form of business organization is one of the important factors to consider when starting a business venture. After deciding on the kind of business venture to pursue, it is important to immediately think about the form the business will take; will it be more efficient and less risky if the owners invite other investors and incorporate themselves or form a partnership? Or is it more convenient and profitable if the business is registered as a sole proprietorship with the owner acting as both the manager and business owner? John, when starting a business one has several options in the type of business structure to use. The different types of business structures are the sole proprietorship structure, the partnership structure, the corporation structure, the S corporation structure, and the limited liability company structure. Each structure has advantages and disadvantages and possible tax consequences.

Hailing from the Sunshine State, the agriculture industry where I am from is a bit different from those in other areas. Florida is home to hordes of citrus trees, acres of ornamental foliage production, and the horse, cut fern, and caladium capitals of the world, with some other assorted crops sprinkled in. Agriculture in my backyard is different from that of other places, and through my involvement in the AFA Animal Institute, I desire to increase my own knowledge and horizons in agriculture, not only from the institute’s programming itself, but through networking and conversing with other students and industry professionals.
Even though there are also many advantages of a sole proprietorship, there are other alternative forms of business organizations that I would recommend, such as a general partnership. A general partnership is a form of business organization that comes into existence when two or more persons carry on business together with a view to a profit. In order to form a general partnership, a series of criteria must be met and understood such as; the partnership must register its name and obtain a business license, a partner cannot be employed by the partnership, all benefits of the partnership business must be received by the partners directly, all partners are personally liable for all the obligations of the business.
There are four main forms of business structures. The structures of business differentiate based on liability, tax implications, and what type of business is being evaluated when determining what structure to use. This paper will cover the advantages and disadvantages within the four types of business structures; Limited Liability Corporations, Corporations, Partnerships, and Sole Proprietorships.
