Athletics in America has gone from being one of our greatest past times, to an epidemic that engulfs greed, selfishness, and sets a bad example for our society. We are given bad examples as a society to follow. Deemed by his horrid Super Bowl performance, Cam Newton, one of the most predominate and controversial quarterbacks in today’s society has been criticized time and again for they way he carries himself on and off the field. His most recent stint has brought a great deal of negativity to the sports world. There is hope, though. Most famously known in the media as the fiancé of Ciera, one of the world’s most musically influential and imaged based celebrity, right under Beyoncé. His stats on the field compared to Cam Newton are immensely …show more content…
This is laughable. Wilson has also participated in more meaningful games when it comes down to it, two super bowls, and two NFC championships. He is more accomplished as an athlete, and even going back into college their comparisons do not stop. Cam, the paid student athlete, Russell the man who fought for his position and still continues to do so now, because he is undersized and not black enough. Yes, an African American who is a re-inventing the quarterback position in other ways that matter, other than his size and college resume. So why, why do we and the media portray athletes as cam as great remodels. Even if we were talking about money, Russell would still win this argument. just because they have money, doesn’t make them an important person for our children to remodel themselves after. Cameron was and is still seen as the epitome of college football due to his success in winning a BCS National championship, but he is also one of the most controversial college players in our era of …show more content…
He is notoriously known as ‘Scam Newton’ because, according to ESPN’s associated press, “The documents indicate Newton's father, Cecil Newton, and ex-Mississippi State player Kenny Rogers sought from $120,000 to $180,000 for the quarterback to sign with the Bulldogs out of junior college but didn't ask any other school for money.” Well, this has since gone in along with the other skeletons Newton holds in his closet. On the other hand, Russell Wilson; a man who has earned everything he has wanted in life. He played for the minor league team of the Colorado Rockies, they are better known as the Tri-City Dust Devils. He was drafted out of college after having a stellar career at North Carolina University as the starting quarterback, but after leaving the university for baseball he lost his starting job and was left to start over again at a different university. He was heavily favored to attend, coincidentally, the Alma mater of Cam Newton, the University of Auburn. Russell chose to attend the University of Wisconsin, On Wisconsin! He had to fight for his position and became a captain of the team within 3 months of being with the
Russell Wilson has a lot of potential to be a very successfull quarterback in the NFL. He was picked by Seattle in the third round in 2012. He has been playing for Seattle for six years. Wilson is one of the shortest quarterbacks standing at 5 foot 11 in tall. Being that short has a disadvantage, one of them is it’s hard to see over a 6 foot 5 in tall lineman. An advantage to being short is that he is abile to weave in and out of small places better than a taller quarterback. Even though he has that disadvantage it doesn’t stop him from creating big plays. Russell Wilson has competed in two Super Bowls, winning the first one but coming up short in the second one after throwing a pick to the Patriots. The other four years he wasn’t in the
Cameron Jerrell Newton was born on May 11, 1989 in Savannah, Georgia. He was the younger of two sons born to Cecil and Jackie Newton. Cecil was so eager to prepare his sons for a shot at the NFL, he put Cecil Jr. and Cameron through college-type drills before they reached their teens. Cam grew up in College Park, a suburb south of Atlanta. Cam began playing organized football as soon as he was allowed, and by age 8, he was a star. Since it was a weight-based football league, he often skipped meals in order to remain eligible. Cam was a so-so student at Seaborn Lee Elementary School and at Camp Creek Elementary School, but his parents refused to let him slip through the cracks. Cam was bright enough, and the teachers liked him, but his abundant energy, often made him hard to handle in the classroom. (jockbio.com)
Russel Wilson’s statistics were more superior then some of the greatest quarterbacks in history. Russell Wilson
After Newton’s college career, he certainly raised questions about his ability to make it in the national football league. (NFL) On talent alone, he was the number 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. But many football experts wondered openly if Newton would be worth the investment.
The requirement to “face the music” through an honest assessment or introspection allows one to cast aside unrealistic propositions moving forward. Even though acceptance to any of the thousands of colleges in the United States may have a high probability, the exact opposite would be true for those desiring an athletic scholarship. Long-term goal development should never become a speculative effort as it typically produces a path of devoured time and escalating opportunity costs – none of them reversible. Not usually known for their notoriety, Don Strock of the Miami Dolphins may have no peers as a perennial backup for two Hall Of Fame quarterbacks over a fourteen year period. Strock eventually left Miami in 1988 under contract dispute,
Russell is revered as one of the greatest civil rights advocates American sports, and the country as a whole has ever seen. Throughout his playing days and all the way up to the present day, Russell has continually pushed for equality and has never shied away from speaking his thoughts. And when he speaks, everyone listens. Proof of such arrived in February when Russell's push for civil rights and
Impregnated while on the ball of her running career in Louisiana State University track, Heather Van Norman fought to survive as a young woman and athlete. She ran, baby and all, during her career as a collegiate track runner at LSU in the 1990’s. But even before she would sprint to victory as an outstanding track runner, mother of Odell Beckham Junior, and ladies’ coach for track, field, and cross-country, Van Norman had to face the harsh realities of paying for college and working for her time as an on-team performer. Eating, sleeping, and breathing her life as a full-time student, the young woman had to overcome the monetary and physical hardships with only the help of herself, her family, and her community’s support (Reusse 2).

Tom Brady is hated by many fans of the NFL. A lot of people hate him because they say he gets everything he wants or that he wins too much. People also hate him for things they are not even sure that he did. People do not understand that he was not always a star. Tom Brady has had a significant impact on today's society because he is an example of how underdogs can become champions, is an example of how to overcome cheating allegations, and how he is the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL.
Have you ever been the best sports player on your team or in the league but not been rewarded for your outstanding efforts? Well this is how Stanford’s sophomore versatile, All-American running back Christian McCaffrey feels. 13 games later, after all the shattered records, he flew back home to Palo Alto empty handed. In Sports Illustrated’s article “Why Christian McCaffrey Should Win the Heisman Trophy”, the writer, Lindsay Schnell, makes a strong case for why Christian McCaffrey should win College Football’s most prestigious trophy instead of Alabama’s ground and pound workhorse Derrick Henry or Clemson’s hybrid Quarterback Deshaun Watson. No matter the race, the size, the abilities of the player, Christian McCaffrey should win the Heisman
As these first couple of weeks of the NFL regular season start up, Reporters and Journalists look out into the grand fields, where professional football players make their living. The black athletes, like most players in the league, are always looking
Tom Brady is widely considered to be one of the best athletes of today’s day and age, and thought of by many as possibly the best quarterback in NFL history. Numerous factors have led to his overall success in football over the past 20 or so years, but nothing has been as important as his own implicit personality structures. Brady has dealt with a lot of negative feedback ever since he started playing football; people telling him he wasn’t good enough to play or that he wasn’t tough enough to be a quarterback in the NFL. His whole career has been a balancing act of proving people wrong by continuing to surpass what was thought to be humanly possible on the field. He has clearly surpassed expectations on and off the field, because of this success it is acceptable to ask the question of how his personality has helped lead to his success in the NFL. Furthermore, Brady is clearly a person high in conscientiousness and self-control, therefore another question that could be debated is how would he cope with not being able to play the game he loves.
“Giving star athletes preferential treatment doesn’t begin in college. It starts much younger. The coddling, the entourages, the brushing aside of academic requirements (OK – we’ll say it: cheating) …But we sure do master it by the time those athletes get through the
An influential person is someone who guides someone to do what they would like to make an impression on. Albert Camus is an influential person to society because he has inspired many people, including playwrights to music makers, with his broad interests and his ideas. He has shared his affection in many ways, shapes, or forms including poems, novels, and even journals. Throughout his career, Albert Camus was a French-Algerian philosopher, author, and journalist. Being that France had colonized and conquered Algeria, Albert Camus was in the midst of both.
For a lot of kids, it’s not until it’s all said and done, and they look back on it several years later, that they realize the difference the sport made in their lives. They are proud of playing the game. Have you ever met anybody who accomplished playing four years of high school football, and at the end of that run said, ‘Man, I wish I wouldn’t have played’? It doesn’t get said. Football players aren’t perfect. Nobody is. But millions of former players, one by one, can recount the life-altering principles they learned from football. They know the value of football is the values in football. That’s why high school football – and particularly high school coaches – play such a vital role in our society. Our football coaches are on the front lines of the battle for the hearts and minds of the boys in our society.
