The Frontline documentary, “The Interrupters”, captures the heroic services that one organization, Ceasefire, provides in assisting individuals involved in inner city violence. Through mentorship and modeling, experienced “violence interrupters” are able to mediate and prevent violence from occurring within at risk communities. The documentary demonstrated the problems orbiting around inner city violence, prominently homicide. Furthermore, the film portrayed an effective solution to curbing the violence by implementing programs such as Ceasefire. The Interrupters encapsulated many essential ideas around inner city violence, such as its importance to social work, its application to theoretical perspectives, and solutions to resolving violence around the world.

Chicago has the biggest gang problem in the country (Thomas & Bass, 2009). “There are more gang members per citizen in Chicago than anywhere else in the country” (Thomas, 2009, para 4). The average Chicago gang leader is 43, convicted of murder and lives in the suburbs. That leader on many occasions directs his gang from jail (Main, 2006) and 95 percent of inmates in the Cook County Jail are gang members (Thomas, 2009). Gangs are everywhere today just like they use to be. The high number of gangs causes violence and deaths to rise in Chicago.

Chicago, Illinois is one of the most violent cities in the US, and because of this multiple violent prevention projects were formed.The documentary followed “interruptors” of violence in the streets of Chicago through mediation. “Interrupters” are former high ranking gang members who volunteered to stop the violence in hopes to save lives. There is no one-way to stop gang activity in one single swipe, but through a combination of cooperation, education, and training techniques law enforcement can minimize the gang’s movements and even stop a crime before it is committed.

Revenge is unjustifiable because getting revenge allows people to take monstrous actions against someone else. Getting justice or revenge are two different goals. Revenge is not needed because it causes people to act harshly against others since they believe it's the only action that can be taken when forgiveness is a possible option. In low income areas and large cities, gang violence is a major problem. Gang violence in Chicago is reaching alarming proportions. Day by day they are increasing rapidly. None of the solutions work effectively to eliminate gangs. However police departments and other government officials are trying their best to provide the same security as other areas in chicago.
