Border Patrol and U.S. CustomsBoth Border Patrol and U.S. Customs work together under the same agency, and worktowards the same goal, yet they perform their duty tasks differently. Protecting the nationsborders from drug smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorism is not an easy task to perform.Border Patrol agents and U.S. Customs officers perform this risky task on the front line of ourcountry by putting their lives in danger on a daily basis. Although Border Patrol (BP), and U.S.Customs and Border Protection (CBP) differ in work location, and work duties they also sharevarious similarities in pay, benefits, and outcome. The officers working as CBP and agentsworking as BP risk their lives at their work of duty, and they both work towards the
The article “U.S. Slaps Duties on Canadian Jet, Raising Trade Tensions,” written by Ana Swanson and published in The New York Times on September 26, 2017, describes how new duty fees will be charged on all new Bombardier CS100 airplanes imported into the United States. This conflict arose after Boeing (American airplane manufacturer) accused Bombardier (Canadian airplane manufacturer) of using subsidies to sell its jets at incredibly low prices in the American market. The United States Commerce Department confirmed that Bombardier’s CS100 aircraft had received subsidies that were worth 220 percent more than the value of the plane’s sales price. These subsidies, which were given by the Canadian government, allowed Bombardier to reduce prices on their aircraft. The profits that they

NAFTA renegotiations, beginning on August 16th 2017, includes digital trading on account of a rise in online sales. Digital Trading is defined as the “scale of consumer products on the internet and the supply of online services” (Lighthizer). The Digital Trading issue arose due to the fact that online sales have increased as well as the block that current tariffs that places online trading between NAFTA countries. This block occurs because a tariff is placed on imported goods. A tariff is basically a tax imposed on goods that are imported into a country, whereas duty-free means import goods are tax free (“tariff” and “duty-free”). The Canadian limit on tax free goods is the lowest in the world while the U.S has the highest (Alini). Furthermore, Mexico has a $50 duty-free threshold, Canada a $20, and the United States a $800 (Gillespie). This means that

Background: Dating from early British era, Transgender, which is an umbrella term for lesbians, gays and bisexuals have been officially charged for crime called “ gross indecency”. This penalty of this crime at first was death, which later on moderated and became imprisonment for a period of 10 years. Through 1947-1961, many amendments were made to the criminal code, which further criminalized the idea of trans genders. During the 1960s, the British Parliament deiced to decriminalize some of the offences of Tran genders. In the May of 1969, following the prime ministers elections, after Pierre Elliot Trudeau was elected as P.M., his government passed Bill C-150. This bill decriminalized gay sex for the first time

On June 28, 2012, the Protecting Canada’s Immigration System Act (Bill C-31) took effect. This act was put in place to bring further reforms to the asylum system, add measures to address human smuggling, and add the requirement to include biometric data as part of a temporary resident visa, work permit, and study permit application. These changes were claimed to help the system to function better, cut down wait time, make the process faster, screen applicants better, and to prevent needless complications. This resulted in many changes to Canada’s asylum system.
In today’s society, both male and female are expected to play specific gender roles. In Canada women and men are thought of as equal, having the same rights to respect, autonomy, and independence (Bonvillain and Miller 2013: 39). The Canadian Border Services Agency ignored this right when the agency allowed religious travelers to avoid female guards. Although men and women may have different roles in their households and communities, their work and activities are equally valued and socially rewarded (Bonvillain and Miller 2013: 39). These roles play an important part in shaping the way individuals think about others in society. The CBSA should not have approved the request of the religious travelers as it devalued the female guards rights by promoting gender inequality and male dominance.

The border patrol has been a major problem for many decades concerning illicit drugs entering into the United States (Levinthal, 2012). Controlling the importation of illicit drugs is not an easy task. Statistics confirm the combined United States border stretches approximately 7,000 miles (Levinthal, 2012). The amount of government officials needed to monitor the importation of illicit drugs is unimaginable. Moreover, the government has designated four agencies to reduce the interdiction of drugs entering into United States territory. The four agencies for reducing illicit drug control in the United States, includes (1) DEA, (2) the U.S. Customs & Border Protection Agency, (3) the U.S. Coast Guard, and (4) the U.S. military (Levinthal, 2012).

In this scenario, the U.S. government has imposed these tariffs in order to make Chinese solar products relatively costly. This increased prices on these products will in turn reduce the demand for Chinese made solar products in the United States. Also, with the tariffs and reduced supply, this will increase the equilibrium price of solar products in the United States. These increased prices will allow for more U.S. producers to compete in the U.S. solar products market. With this type of activity, the government is hopeful that this will help U.S. domestic producers become more competitive. And, hopefully this will create more jobs for U.S. workers.
