Standard Poodle Canadian Kennel Club classification- The standard poodle is in the non – sporting dogs classification. Origin (country) – The poodle breed has been known in Western Europe for at least 400 years. Some countries claim they are where the poodle originated but no one knows for sure its true country of origin. France took the claim of origin and that is why some people know them as French poodles. However, the AKC (American kennel club) states that Germany is the country of origin where the dog was used for water retrieval. Use – Poodles are very versatile dogs. They are the worlds oldest water retrievers, circus performers and truffle hunters. There are two types of coat quality for poodles they are either curly or corded. Curly poodles have a dense natural coat texture that can also be frizzy. Corded poodles have their hair hanging in tight even cords of different lengths. The classic poodle hair cut was designed by hunters to help the dogs swim more efficiently. The hair left on the poodle was to keep the joints warm and protect them from sharp reeds. Poodles come in a variety of solid colours. Blues, greys, silvers, browns, café-au-laits, apricots and creams. The coat could show varying shades of the same colour.
